Looking for more MX Sport feedback

Hello Steve,

Your misunderstanding my post, I have a high regard for both you and the prospecting forums including Tom's forum. I don't understand your post above, maybe my post came across wrong.

What did me in was the bashing, especially from those never laying hands on the MX Sport. With this, And a recent family emergency I asked to be removed from two forums.

I have a high level of confidence with the MX Sport, I've owned three versions and each with the right settings proved to me it's a remarkable detector.

You know i understand a lot with the situation on the MX Sport, Things I would never share on the internet. I've put this behind me, the success of White's is important, American made products.

You've always been a good friend, I hope you will allow it to be mutual.

All the best,
Paul

I have had the detector and have tried it in 2 different firmware flavors. I did not keep mine as it just was not for me and I just did not want to send it back for a firmware update it needed. I say it needed it because for me it did. They themselves made this machine out to be the fastest thing out there.

Besides all that it is a great detector. People get all angry when someone points out the truth of the matter. It is not bashing the machine it is just the truth.

Bottom line is yes it has had troubles. Yet it is one heck of a detector for the price. It hangs in there with detectors costing much more. I love to see the good reports on the sport. I may revisit it again in the future.

I must have bought one of the first batch, since it was well nigh unusable. Next to no target seperation, with tones sounding off long after the coil had passed over the target and a pinpoint mode that.. wasn't. Still waiting for them to fix it, but not holding my breath since they've had the detector since May 11th and the repair is STILL 'pending'.. hope my warranty doesn't run out before they get to it. Should've done more studying before laying down the cash and bought an AT Gold instead of this lemon.

Over in the UK, someone on eBay makes various covers for several different types of metal detectors. Seen they have one for the Treasure Pro, this appears to be one to fit the MX Sport?

Anyway, sent him a message if he would send these to USA. Just received his message, yes he can but the particular Meter cover auction ended.

When he relist them, I'll order one. They are well made. Camo appearance with clear vinyl on front, they should fit the MX Sport.

That's a bummer, I'm not getting one until I hear some reviews and hear that people don't have to send them back two and three times. I hope they fix yours soon.

Well,,I can say without hesitation,,,both Paul and Daniel,,,both with their comments are why I bought the MX sport.

I may never go swimming with mine,,wouldn't be afraid to,,,but snow and rain threats sure can't stop me.

I do have a CTX,,but this detector does some things the CTX just can't do.

Keep up the good work Paul and Daniel on your reporting.

I get it Daniel. You think posting information about issues with new detectors is just creating mountains out of molehills, and that posting such information just causes issues that would not exist if said information was properly suppressed. Certainly, it was counted on that early users would not pick up on these issues. You are absolutely right - if not for the Internet nobody would ever have been alerted to this. People who don't access the Internet are by and large being left in the dark. I guess I am surprised to find you in the camp of those advocating these things should just be kept quiet. So much for the desire for honest reporting.

I got mine too because of Paul and Daniel. It's way better than the Nokta I had.

Steve i was happy to hear about the problems with the mxs. I wouldn't have got one if the problems weren't corrected. You have to admit there was an extraordinary amount of bad comments. I hope the updates and good comments helped bring this detector into better standings now.

Rick

Hello Rick and David,

Recently, a friend and I hunted for a few hours at an old site. We had several top end detectors including my MX Sport, we were comparing signals. Not seriously testing the lot but we did find time to compare several signals in an area with iron and some mineralization.

All the detectors did well, separation and no serious issues with mineralization. My friend commented on the MX Sport, he liked how it retains GB and it's last settings when turned off. Plus, He also commented how easy the MX Sport was to manually GB.

If I remember correctly, We both noticed the MX Sport would ID iron correctly when one of his top end read the signal as conductive. So that was a plus, the MX Sport did well IDing iron.

The third detector, top end model I have one too it did an outstanding job with separation. But the MX Sport has an edge on depth, especially in mineralization.

Another favorite of mine with the MX Sport, Overload is perfect. It'll overload when it's suppose too, I was showing my friend that's one of the many cool things about the MX Sport.

We're suppose to meet again in a couple of weeks, same site. I'd like to run more comparisons, I think were the MX Sport will surpass the other two will be depth. Other than this, the three are pretty close.

Paul,

I don't think there is alot of bad comments. Just alot of frustration is all. It will come around and this will be all in the past. It is a fine detector.

I got another chance to compare the sport with my deus. It did a bang up job but didn't hang with speration but was good on depth. The deus does go deeper depending on coil and conditions with the right settings. Atleast here in michigan. The sport is no slouch and is right there with depth.

You're always gonna have good and bad comments or comparisons like above. Some will differ some will agree. Just go out and use what ya like and have fun. Pointing out flaws in a detector is not bad mouthing it. It helps get things corrected and spreads like wildfire nowadays.

Some good info Paul.

I noticed when doing some,, on top of the ground test with a nail and a coin,,I could get my unit to give good tone,,but would show an ID of -02.

So far out in the field,,,the detector seems not to lie to me,,calling ferrous nonferrous....I did dig a couple signals that were giving good tone but ID as -02,,both turned out to be good iron relics.

I do like how the meter tends to roll on iron wrap signals-- 2 of my other detectors ( same brand) don't do this.

I still I figure have more to learn about it and it's tendencies.

The jump start you gave me from reading some of your hunt data and comments-- really helped.

Cheers

Paul,

I like doing comparison with a buddy and see how each detector does. Next time we get together we'll be comparing the mxs the x-terra with the 10" coils.

How long does it take to get your detector back from White's. I sent mine in last Fri.

Rick

Hello Rick,

Took about two weeks to get my unit back the first time, second Firmware about 10 days.

You'll like the update, keep us posted!

HH,
Paul

Hello David,

That's great! Keep plugging away and share your experiences, the more information out there the better.

Especially information from detectorist as you, for being new to the hobby you've learned so much. I value your option as what takes years and even decades to learn you accomplished so much in a short period.

The MX Sport has its weak areas too, but for the most part it offers so much for a low price. The positives far out weight the negative, waterproof to boot!

Take care David,
Paul

Thank you for the nice comments.

Something here I should share.

I see it asked on the forums a lot of times when it comes to learning a new detector,,or even detecting in general.

I see where folks generally make comments like take a new detector to a cleaner site to learn.

Well,
My take on this is a bit different than most folks,, I think.

Here is what I do.

I go to a very rotten site with nails and iron,,try to find a very old site.

I use the detector,,and try to pick my targets in stages,,,like first digging clean hits,,and as I continue to hunt the site (I go back to the same site many times),, I lower my threshold for what should be a good target.

Doing the above gets me a pretty good baseline to recognize what the detector is telling me.
Now ground mineralization levels are taken into account.

IMO taking a detector to numerous sites and digging textbook signals-- little advanced learning takes place.

And yep,,I will dig some iron doing the above too,, but it is very necessarily.

I also try to align what I see and hear with folks like you Paul--- a kind of mediator of sorts.
And yes my brain gets jogged every know and then,,,when out hunting,, based on something I've read from what I call a trusted source of info.

I do try to talk about a lot of what I witness with any certain detector,,,and believe me sometimes it is very difficult to put into words,,,and yes some have even questioned what I have wrote--- like they have never heard or seen what I have using the same detector.

And I am also very cognizant of the fact,,, a person can,,if they are not careful get trapped by their own tunnel vision and hearing-- I've done it.

And metal detecting forums,,,help keep me abreast and honest with my self when I am out detecting.

It is a shame I live so far from some select folks-- It would be very enjoyable to spend some time with these folks,, to exchange war stories and do some in the field hunting and signal comparisons.

I have a new friend I met of late,,a new Deus user.

A terrific gent with great passion and I we have a lot of mutual respect for one another.

He is learning,,and actually wants to try to hunt tomorrow with me.

The weather is hot is now,,,but I feel I owe it to this gent --- if I have to sweat a little to keep him on track with his Deus learning--- well worth it.

I love to see younger folks actually have an avid interest in something like metal detecting,,,doesn't happen often enough IMO.

Cheers
Paul

Phoned White's again today (hint: just after opening for business does the trick) and it was shipped off on the 25th. Turns out that, at least in my case, they didn't bother updating the repair status on the website, so it's STILL pending.. even though updated and shipped. Fingers crossed that it's working as it should and I can do some side to side comparisons with my MXT Pro. Really want to make/buy a pigtail adapter so I can use my MXT coils.

I'll try that El,

Maybe we can compare both Deus against the other. One with Gary's setup the other with Deus settings.

Great idea!
Paul

Garys setting are for his area. Not the best for all areas. That's the nice thing about the deus you can adjust to an area. Problem with the Deus is people rely on others programs. You need the time and effort to see what works for your area. You can have the best detector in the world. Set it up wrong and you will not like the results.

Nice thing about the MXS. It is great just the way it is and that is why it compares to others so well. It works well everywhere.
