First off Tesoro makes fine detectors and the build quality and warranty are tops. Ideas on a new detector well here it goes with a little lead in to my point.

With most Tesoro detectors one must thumb the disk knob to help assist in telling maybe the type of item you are detecting this is cool and works the draw back in heavy trash that is so common now days is it takes a lot of time and you work the knob to death or spend all your time on your knees digging trash. Another issue is most Tesoro detectors are fixed ground balance other than the Outlaw, Vagero, and the Tejon. I do not care for fixed ground balance myself in the disk mode or the all metal.

With all this said in my opinion Tesoro needs build a light as possible detector with an adjustable ground balance with multi tone low for iron, mid and high tones. A detector that does well in iron trash with a fast recovery speed for working in trash with all the coil options. Now here is the big one for you guys VDI numbers, yes I know they are not always accurate but in a high trash situation on shallow tabs one can dig a bunch and realize most are coming in at say a 58 constantly on the VDI screen. After this a guy can glance at the VDI numbers because shallow targets lock good and move on past say the 58 number. This is faster and better than thumbing the knob to do the same thing in my humble opinion. A Tesoro detector like this would allow Tesoro to now compete with detectors like the Garrett AT Pro & Gold, Fisher, Technetics and the White's ID detectors and more than likely the Tesoro would keep up or maybe kick there butt or for sure compete toe to toe with them. ( a good thing yes??)

In summery

A solid light weight simple accurate VDI detector with ground balance capability's in disk and all metal modes that's good in iron, fast recovery speed with multi tone low, mid and high tones (water proof for shallow water here could be a big plus) Again I think this would open a hole new market for Tesoro but again this concept may run against what Tesoro has done well for years witch is build high quality light simple affective detectors.

Personally.

I loved my Vagero and my Tejon but in high trash they worked me to death and my Cortez was a fixed ground balance in disk mode (did not like that at all it should have been adjustable in disk mode) I do wish though I still had them all after the fact. My Garrett AT Pro does all the above well over all. Like I said above I wish Tesoro had a detector to compete here in this arena. The AT Pro is light and has all the features listed above and gives me the choices I need and like. I still dig most everything any way but the VDI and tone help in high trash just a little more info to help a guy along the way.

This is what I would like to see Tesoro do.:clapping:

I typed in the wrong spot, sorry about that Bill G. I do like the sound of that detector.

Seriously, my ONLY complaint/wish is that the Tesoro land machines need a bit more weather-resistant construction. I own a Vaquero and love it but it always scares me to death to get anywhere near wet ground/grass/etc. for fear of ruining the electronics. I'm not talking waterproof, just water resistant.

I recently purchased a used Tejon and love it. There are some things that stick out like the proverbial sore thumb, however.

1) The manual seriously needs to be updated; especially the section on ground balancing. From the Tesoro website, I quote "While listening to the threshold sound, lower the searchcoil to about 1 inch off the ground. As the coil is dropped. This is the balanced response. When you get a balanced response, the detector is telling you that it is ready to hunt." Huh? 'As the coil is dropped' is not even a COMPLETE SENTENCE! Never mind the fact that the initial setting for the GB knob is never mentioned, nor is there enough information to even guess which direction to turn the GB knob. I still don't know whether or not I'm running my GB negative or positive...

2) While you're at it, hire someone who knows what they are doing to design a website for you. Period. The current site looks like something from the early 1980's.

3) I noticed that the distance between the adjustment holes on the middle shaft is roughly twice as long as it should be. Little things count, and having the shaft be the correct length when swinging a coil is one of those little things. Fortunately, I own a drill press.

4) An adjustable length arm rest (cuff) has been mentioned. I am fine with the length, but my wife's longer arms put the cuff too low.

I am impressed with the sensitivity of this machine. I actually dug a staple at the beach, roughly 5-6 inches down. No, not one of those inch-plus box staples, a regular paper staple. Crazy sensitive! (sens on 3-4). I'm also blown out of the water with how lightweight this detector (and the other Tesoros I've picked up) is, without resorting to thin, flimsy feeling aluminum shafts (like my F4). I can swing for a long time before I need to switch sides.

General suggestions:

A bit more weather proofing. I'm going to have to purchase/make something to keep my detector dry in case it starts to sprinkle.

I'd like to see a 'no-motion' pinpoint, much like my other detectors have. I've learned to read the difference in tone when pinpointing, but life is so much easier when you don't have to constantly swing the coil to pinpoint.

Color? The European Tejon is already black, so it isn't a stretch to offer it here in the 'States. Check out Gary's Detecting Tejon page here for some pics.

Graphic display. Here we venture into the land of trying to fit all the bells and whistles without ending up with a 5 pound detector. In order to compete, however, I believe it will be necessary to add a decent display. I rely on the displays on my F4 and X-Terras to decide whether or not to dig, in some cases (pull tabs are almost always 37 on my F4, for instance). Perhaps the speaker could be sacrificed? I don't detect without headphones, personally.

While we're adding a display, how about multiple tones based on metal composition? That high tone (on my other machines) when I run across a Cu penny/dime or quarter definitely pulls my eyes to the display to see what's down there.

Just my two crusty zincolns.

Hi, greetings to all users of the Forum treasure, I have a cowboy for 3 years and is a best of the best. I would like to see a cowboy multi-tone, ground balance both manual and automatic, water-resistant as the AT-PRO, crutch TREASURES COMMANDERS detectors, and finally give you the name of jungle treasure. Greetings to all from Spain.

I would like to suggest Tesoro bring back a unit currently out of production: the Tesoro Diablo.

You did not sell it for long before it was discontinued. Perhaps you feel the lack of discrimination hurt it.

Sales may have been unethusiastic at the time. However, the value of that machine has been discovered by hobbyists everywhere.

When a used unit comes up for sale, just look at the price it sells for.

Just a thought.

Thank you so much to everyone who threw in "the 2 cents", even pennies build up to a great worth. We'd like to provide even more service by taking these suggestions to heart and show everyone we really are listening. No one knows the units like the user, and therefore no one knows what they want like the customer. Again, thank you for all the great advise and support of Tesoro Electronics throughout the years. Stay tuned, we'll be asking something a little different very soon. We're giving the Tesoro customers the a chance to pick the name of the next NEW detector. I'll be back with you guys very soon.

The clifhanger! Lol great news i cant wait!

Just keep up the good work you and the employs do. We all do love TESOROS. Just make a compadre wader... KEN

Thank you Nathan for taking our suggestions to heart, We appreciate you and Tesoro taking the time to hear our thoughts and ideas.

If I'm not too late, Here's an idea been kicking around for a while and if it would be possible to bring out a high kHz detector with target ID highest kHz possible that is and mount the target ID above the hand-grip with the main board underneath the arm-rest. This type of detector would cover allot of hunting bases ranging from gold jewelry, nugget hunting, relic and coin shooting, etc.

And if not possible at least with the more powerful Tesoro's that require a large board have the main board/batteries (bulk of weight) mounted underneath the armrest with a few feature controls above the hand-grip. And if funds allow change to a more modern look on the miniature Target ID housings that would be nice too, Here's a couple of pics that kind of give you an idea of a future model. Note the Retune/All Metal/Disc switch is within a thumbs reach, Leaving the bunk of weight underneath the arm-rest.

Thanks again and appreciate you and Tesoro taking the time to hear our thoughts and ideas,

Nice! That's where I moved my Lobo control box. The only control that I couldn't use was the was the pinpoint. Not a problem since I never used it anyhow. I prefer the analog needle too. Easier to see in the Nevada sun plus I suspect it is more durable.

I would like to see screen ID,multi tone and multi Freqs a dual purpose machine for water and land like the CTX to AT Pro.

take the Lobo and put the Deleon meter on it.....................that's it , guaranteed sales.....lots of them!!!!

Only problem with that is it will triple the prices. Best thing about tesoro now is the performance for the price.
