Customer Feedback

Two more items I forgot to add in my previous post.

1. Weatherproofing for the land detectors

2. Resistance built into the control knobs like the Shadow X-2 had.

I realize this would add to the cost but I believe most folks would welcome these improvements.

Hate menus that seem to take an endless amount of wasted time to search thru and to change a setting......

Waterproofing should be a standard feature with ANY detector!...Water and electronics don`t mix very well....Thinking a bit on my previous post...How about a smaller waterproof PI unit with some some Tonal ID and a 6 inch coil...You have a Tiger Shark, and a Sand Shark...How about a LAND SHARK for gold nuggets and other situations where a smaller coil would be useful?

I dont mind mudpuppys idea. For metal detector ideas though i like the knobs and switches so hopefully you dont change that but i would like all the controls on the outside (water detectors) manual ground balance tone id and visual id and if possible to make it so you can switch the coils not hard wired. More control and more information but dont forget the knobs and switches lol.
Another reason I changed from White's to Tesoro; knobs & switches. Just more durable than the flexible plastic crap on other detectors!

I guess I'm easier to please than many of the posters. I'd like to see the DeLeon or Cortez come out with ground balance for both modes, either manual or auto, if auto, a ground lock setting. Also a larger screen. On models like the Vaquero, a separate toggle for all metal so the disc setting does not have to be disturbed, and possibly a toggle for a second disc setting similar to the Tejon. Also, how hard would it be to offer a small, screwdriver access to the preset machines so the user could tweak the ground setting, or heck with that, make them all gb adjustable?
BB
Exactly. I recently bought a Silver U. Loved that machine until I found it totally useless in certain areas of the Nevada desert. I could take a magnet and pull iron particles out of the soil. I bought a used Outlaw. It works fairly good. Hey, how about one better on the ground balance issue? How about an area specific that is tuned for the Southwest & one for the East? Whites has the SST that is tuned for the Southwest. I believe it is a modified M-6.

I have not read all the posts in this thread; so my apologies if I'm repeating suggestions.

For a general purpose detector with no meter:

ground balance: a) 10 turn rather than the 3.5 turn; or the equivalent adjustability if in a digital implementation.
b) Adjustable to balance all the way to wet salt.

Discrimination: a) maybe digitally post process so that discrimination does not decrease detection depth.
b) has a range of from true all metal through knocking out zinc pennies.

Water resistant / submersible to 8 to 10 feet would be nice.

Two tone with an adjustable tone split to divide up the conductivity range.

For a metered detector:
Adjustable ground balance in both all metal and discrimination modes is a must.

I still want a wader COMPADRE... KEN

Two comments. I bought a used Vaquero from Jabbo. It has a ten turn pot , installed by Sven.. I love the ability to really tune it.. For a commercial machine, it is not practical to go more than 5 turns, and even there, you will have a lot of people in trouble trying to ground balance. Dave installed a Garrett battery pack with 8 AA batteries....This is bad, battery life is so long that when you decide to replace them, you have none, they were used for other purposes. I have the Clean sweep coil, stock 8 by 9 spider, and a 8 inch brown coil... I am thinking of buying another "V" for use as a wader, with the 8 inch coil since it slides so easily through the water.

PI's are a small market. many folks who tried one revert back to a VLF machine.
A basic turn on and go PI are good for mostly one thing Beach water hunting.
If you want to hunt land with varying soil conditions, you need a fully adjustable PI.
Pulse delay, Frequency, Threshold, Gain and a few other controls. And you have to learn how they
interact with each other. It takes roughly 40 hours to learn the basics.

There is nothing wrong with Tesoro water units, they are heavier than lets say the AT Pro for several reasons. Heavier case to withstand deeper diving water pressures to remain waterproof and to create
some weight to ensure the detector will not float. Take a ball into a pool 5 feet down, it's filled with air, what happens, it sky rockets to the surface. A heavier box that can maintain neutral bouyancy in salt water is a must. I actually had to add two large trolling sinkers to an old Garrett VLF water machine to keep it from floating upwards. If I remeber right the Tigershark I had floats as well but it was only used for wading.

RM told me Tesoro was in dire desparate need of a new PI design

===================================================
Main problem is Tesoro does not have an electronics engineer on staff that is capable of designing a formidable VLF or PI detector.
The ones they had long in the past left for greener pastures.
When they decide to hire one, maybe we'll see a brand spank'in new machine hit the market. They are going to have to pay this engineer,
Expect Tesoro prices to increase at that point. You might see a sticker shock when the new units are compariable with what's currently on the market,
unless they are made in China................

Now Tesoro might just be trying to hold on for another 10 years with what they have, by that time, everyone at Tesoro will be old enough to retire..........
Tesoro produces enough current machines each year to satisfy wordly demands. And we know Tesoro owners are happy owners that have fun with Tesoros.
I don't see Tesoro producing a new machine to satisfy the requests of 50 forum members............................but, then maybe the new model will be another rehash of older features
packed into a umax housing. Might not fit, better use the Tejon housing.

Basically, I think we all want a beep and dig Tesoro with
the power and depth of a Tejon
smoothness of operation of an Eldorado
180 discrimination
at least two tone
ground balance in all metal and disc mode
frequency shift
notch feature
pinpoint button
adjustable audio frequency, some people with hearing like one audio pitch better than others. Something found on many
older VLF machines Compass, Garrett, Teknetics.........

Throw in a slower retune speed option than what the Tejon has.

Put it all into a nice black housing with gold or silver trim lettering, I'll buy one.

Screens, do-dads, and cool thingys, that's what we need in a machine nowadays! I'm being a little sarcastic. Sure, every once in awhile I gravitate to a machine that has a screen because technology fascinates me, BUT, in reality, it's still probability. Tesoro, you wanna rock the industry? Try creating a discrimination that totally eliminates pull tabs, or can definitively tell the difference between a rotted can lid & a 50 cent piece or gold from lead. Hell, you won't need a menu or a screen for that. A super Golden with auto & manual ground balance would do it!
BTW, thank you for asking!

a light weight land P.I machine that can balance out hot & cold rocks and still hit a good target at the same time , with good depth,

Regardless of what is coming next I think just about everyone in here or close to everyone wants to see a new machine with tone ID.
The Golden set up like a Tejon with H.O.T technology with the revised new tones of the Golden would be the ultimate in awesomeness from Tesoro.
Bring back the Toltec and the Sabre names! Black is a perfect color, please stay away from purple and lime green ( vaquero/Cibola)

Now if you guys could do that in a 10ft waterproof design as well people would go nuts!
I applaud Tesoro fro turning to the forums. I know I have been VERY critical of Tesoro in the past. However it is this kind of reaching out and willingness to change deserves recognition.
Good job Tesoro!

You have a very good setup in the Tejon if yall are willing to capatilize on it....For the relic Hunter...

Take the tejon revamp the battery box and allow better Battery consumption......On the tejon the performance drops as the batteries drain...

allow the user to hear the rejected target's as a low tone.. the accepted targets as a high tone via the disc control....dont have a preset tone break but user defined tone break....

Use your dual disc circuit to advantage of having the first one cover just iron this will broaden up the resolution in the nail range then all rejected target's will signal low tone and everything else high tone...

have a volume control added to the iron tone so you can turn it down if it becomes annoying....

A boost process would be nice and switchable on and off....

utilize a faster auto tune in all metal mode...Right now all metal mode is useles for hunting ..I actually use pinpoint for the all metal mode hunting as it retunes faster and is plenty deep..Not sure why the regular all metal is so slow to retune it is a hinderance in all but the least mineralized dirt's....

Weather proof the housing some..dont go to the extreme but offer some better enclosures like the X5 did....
Build a line of elliptical DD's to compliment the fast recovery of the tejon and the tight elliptical DD's seem to enhance a high freq espeacially in the nastier dirt...

A light weight Ellipticall DD in the 6x10 range ought to be stock and offer maybe a 4x6 or so as an optional shooter coil for dense iron sites the relic hunter hunts in......

We Need the low tone of rejected targets to locate ancient habitation sites and also to allow for more sleuthy hunts in iron infested area's..

But allow us to set the tone break if a factory setting is used it will not cut it in the dense iron trying to unmask...

I would lose the pinpointer button on the vaquero and replace it with a am/discrimation switch.further.i'd like the change of frequencies to be like,10,14,18klz.more versatile I feel.blowfly

Everyone on here that has posted all have valid inputs on the contols and tones because they are very knowledgeable with their Tesoro machines . I like tesoro as well and can't add anything more than what they say other than I would like to address the upper pole assembly length needs to be about 3 inches longer and the grip at more of a slight angle forward to take the stress off the wrist and this may just be in my case not others . I have long thin arms and the arm cuff is just to far forward for my arm which will not let me balance out when swinging JMHO though
