Customer Feedback

Hi,

To repeat previous posts that I have made on this subject, I submit the following:

A metal detector manufacturing company in my opinion will ride, sink, or swim with the type of Flagship detector that they have in their in the current offerings at any given moment. In the long run, the top-of-the-line (flagship) detector represents the BEST that a particular company can offer and place out into the marketplace given the technological knowledge that they possess. This is how they blow their own horn, so to speak.

In the case of Tesoro, I had previously asked, and was informed that the Cortes is their Flagship detector. If that is still the case, lets take a closer look at the Cortes:

1) It's technology is well over 10 years old.
2) It's visual display is antique by todays' standards.
3) It visual (color, logo etc) appearance has remained unchanged since it's release.
4) Discounting any "silent modifications" done to correct probems, its' features have remained unchanged since it's release.

In order for Tesoro to compete in the future with other metal detector manufacturers, I would recommend that Tesoro take a closer look at it's competitors offerings and UPGRADE the Cortes. I would suggest the following changes just for starters:

1) Take the HOT TECHNOLOGY like the Vaquero offers and place THAT inside the Cortes.
2) Add a modern style TID display that would give a SHARP looking appeal, and at the same time offer user-friendly functionality.
3) Change the color scheme to match the other HOT TECHNOLOGY detectors that you offer, or create a new scheme.
4) Add audio target tone ID like your Golden Umax, but expand upon it even further.
5) Make certain that it's rain-proof, and can handle all but underwater conditions.

I wish Tesoro luck in the future, but I stand behind my belief that if Tesoro does NOT start to make some radical changes to at least a few of their detectors, the future does not look too promising. Start with the Flagship detector, and then work downwards.

Talked with Rusty last week, mentioned during our conversation that I would like to see Tesoro come out with a multi tone Tiger shark.

Now to take that idea one step further. Lobo all metal ground tracking with the multi ( 3 ) tone Tiger shark. Now that I would love to see.

Decide to make either one of those for production , contact me for payment. I would be happy to buy one of the first ones out of the door.

Other than those thoughts , I would like the clean sweep coil to be brought back as an option for hardwiring to the Tesoro water machines ( Stingray to Tiger shark). Really liked the old removable coils and understand that the supplier quit on connectors. While removable coils would be more ideal on future water machines. I would like to have the Clean sweep as an option for my Stingray and my future Tiger shark purchase.

Keep up the good work and thank you for listening to your customer base,

Lakota

A water proof Lobo sounds perfect

But I think a new metered unit may be a updated taltec 100 with manual or auto
ground balance and a of tone id 1,2,3, or multiple and a movable notch window like a golden saber 2

I would like to see the frequency shift option added to the Tejon.

Also offer the Tejon and the Vaquero with Fixed and adjustable ground balance.

I believe the Trident II (UK Vaquero), Is set up this way.

And please offer a 10x12 CONCENTRIC coil for the 4 pin detectors.

This coil would transform the Tejon/Vaquero into relic hunting beasts in good ground.

I would buy one instantly.

....of the fine folk in the Land of Tesoro? Or is Tesoro just being a good politician, all talk, no action?

With all the posts below, you know what we want, get to it. Because many of us no longer own a Tesoro but, lust to get another......

Everyone knows the Eldorado is one primo machine. But, it needs Tejon depth. And give us the French black colors, shouldn't be too hard.

Now if you could shrinkersize the Tejon into a umax housing, add an adjustable SAT, you would have a winner.

Biggest thing I would like to see changed is better consistancy in performance between units of the same model. I hate buying a detector, then wondering if
I got a hot or cold unit. Tired of buying three or more of the same model to find one that performs better. Like a box of chocolate, you never know what your
going to get. 1-3" difference is a big deal...............

The only reason I don't own a Tesoro currenty, sold them all off is because the PI that I build works much better as does an older VLF vintage heavier big box machine
that I will keep around.

A new waterproof PI detector with a adjustable Pulse Delay Range of 10 to 22us so the unit can be adjusted from small gold objects to larger one's like mens gold rings.

+ a better design on battery pack change-outs with an option for rechargeable longer life lithium battery packs (as an option).

Also a wireless option for headphones on all tesoros. (could be a audio plug plug-in transmitter with a couple of differant style headsets (full size to lightweight units).

Thank you for the post Nathan. Something as simple as re-releasing the Eldorado, perhaps incorporating a few changes listed above
would be most welcome. Creating an online video library featuring usage tips for each detector would be simple enough and well received
(Outlaw retune button anyone?). Tesoro definitely needs something with tones and a TID.

I would like to see a Compadre with more features. Use the same circuitry and maybe add an all metal toggle and a thereshold knob. Also, interchangeable coils . Not trying to replace the Compadre, just add another model. Keep it simple like the Compadre is. No need to make it overly complicated with ground balance and such. Just expand it a little. "Compadre Plus"!!

Sven mentioned something that is very true, the inconsistency in the machines. Just look at the Outlaw, look around at the other forums, you'll see so many people with very mixed results of it's operation. And for the love of God please do something better with the battery doors. I think we also have about 6 posts so far about the color being black.......lets do it....black, black, black!!!!

I echo much of the sentiment of the real professionals who have commented above, and as a Tesoro user, I want the company to succeed. But my concerns are with their overall marketing, which has been stagnant for years. Tesoro will attract serious detectorists by addressing the product line and keeping it fresh, inventive, and updated with state-of-the-art technology. That being said, if they are to stay viable in the marketplace, they absolutely must attract new buyers. And this is unlikely to happen with their current marketing efforts. The Tesoro web site is outright amateurish, the brochures and product manuals are not well-written or professional looking, and the products have looked much the same for a very long time. I think any change in product technologies must go hand-in-hand with a complete overhaul of Tesoro marketing and branding. Over the years the company has remained a player in the market simply because of the evangelistic nature of their users. We believe in the products and tout them to others. If Betamax taught us anything, it's this: Just because a product is good doesn't make it a winner in the marketplace. That's my two farthings...

Kapok, another great point, marketing and branding!! I bet Vaq, simply all black, with white ghost flames around the housing, with skull accents, and call it the Reaper, or the Undertaker would attract more of todays generation. Now i'm just being funny here, but it's true. Eye appeal is a HUGE part of todays generation, coolness factor, ya know? Like it or not, that is fact. Now none of this would make it a better machine but would certainly increase your sales with the COOL kids...hehe..

Here's an example:
I started my own company 5 years ago. I'm in the wastewater pump industry both selling and installing. I needed a company name. I somehow wanted to name it after my best friend, my Dad. His initials are M.O.B. I called it M.O.B. Sales. I ran with it and had shirts, cards, and hats made all with cool logos with an "edge" to them. I ran with the whole MOB thing. It's catchy, everyone wants to know what it means, and it's for lack of better words, politicaly incorrect. But it works...

You didnt think it was only for retired old men with more hair in their ears and nose than on their heads did you?

I really wanted to love my Vaq but after over 1 year of use I still couldn't tell a dime from a rusty bolt, unless thumbing the disc (even then the disc was inaccurate). In this day & age, this should not be necessary. To really compete with all the other brands would mean a major design change with display, etc... Heck even the new first offereing 'Duck Dynasty' detectors have GPS incorporated into them. Many people, once they use all the latest technology, just can't go back to the lack of info of a single tone, no VID. If not interested in competing with the other brands (at their tech game anyway) that offer more target info, multi tones & displays, maybe just incorporate EVERY feature that you can that is not related to a visual display, into ONE detector. Adjustable hunting frequency, multi tones, variable audio breakpoint, longer battery life (10 hours on my Vaq, just not enough, I get over 20 on my X-Terra on 4AA's). And for the love of pete, do away with the gray/ purple and brown/ gold color schemes (who comes up with this)? It makes them look even older than they are. Make them any color you want, as long as it's black!

I started detecting in my 20's. Now I'm 50. I was never, nor am I now, cool. Ask my kids, they will confirm that!! :clapping:

I love my Tejon, but I would like to see it in a multi frequency machine. Something with say three frequencies spread out like some White's machines. Without a display they can be used one frequency at a time, controlled by a switch. Targets would respond differently to each frequency giving the user better target ID and providing one more "tool in the tool box". Thanks.

I dont mind mudpuppys idea. For metal detector ideas though i like the knobs and switches so hopefully you dont change that but i would like all the controls on the outside (water detectors) manual ground balance tone id and visual id and if possible to make it so you can switch the coils not hard wired. More control and more information but dont forget the knobs and switches lol.

I love the two Tesoro's that I have, a Tiger Shark, and a Silver uMax. Your customer service is top notch. Your total lack of nothing new has me looking at other brands including some non-Chinese overseas brands. As stated earlier your poor website is just that, a poor website. Your lack of user info on the website and the outdated manuals you get with your detector are also poor. Do you make great detectors? Yes you do, but you are living in the past. Take a look at the DeLeon and Cortes, the displays are small and a joke. I have seen better displays on high school science fair projects. As mentioned earlier your flagship model should be something that shines and you should be proud of it. Compare your flagship, the Cortes, to the competitors flagships and try not to laugh, it's not even a contest, it's embarrassing. Lets not even talk about that joke the Golden that you still have not corrected. That one to me is just inexcusable and does little for customer confidence of any sort. Also as mentioned earlier why do you put out so many hot and cold detectors? If you really and I mean really cared about your customers and your reputation, all of your detectors would be peaked for max. performance before leaving the door. Adjusting a detector to an acceptable window of limits is just not cutting it because we get detectors at the middle of the window and right at both ends of the window. Peak each one and send us a great detector the first time. There are several people on this forum and another who have complained about different performance levels from the same detector. Right now I feel your great customer service and lifetime warranty are carrying you. That won't last forever.

I don't mean to be too hard on you folks, but as far as new detectors go, you all really need to wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late.

All the vintage 1970-80's machines by other manufacturers were basically made to find silver coins. Everyone wanted to find and did find plenty of silver back then.
