They run on 6V lantern batteries. It has a large bail that will fit over your forearm so you can hang off the cars and still keep it with you. They also have two lamps, one for flood so the engineer can see it and one for spot so you can see to the hitch. Switching at night is about 100 times more dangerous than daytime. Gets even worse in snow, fog or rain!
