JJ,its a big old lump of plastic and wire, but boy it really goes deep, when you think that you can pick up say a 5900 or IDX Pro for a very small amount these days and then buy the 15'' coil once again if you hunt around for a small amount of money, you then are talking about a very capable hoard/artifact hunter due too the low freq of 6.59khz.

Look forward to your review and video.

I have one of the 15 inch coils for my Blue Gray. It looks like a big garbage can lid on the end of a stick. Not very light either. But it would beep on a 12lb. cannonball when I held the coil up waist high.

Yeah those big coils have some serious power, I left my machine turned on in the lounge room and I moved a heater about 6 feet away and it picked it up, yet they are sensitive enough to pick up bits of lead weighing 0.0002 oz.

Take a tour of the factory sometime....they make everything in house, unlike a few others...

No they don't, Injection moulded Items like Battery boxes and the display pods are made over seas.

sweeper60 is 100% correct :clapping: ... and some other stuff as well . Barnum ... no disrespect but in the real world that looks only for the bottom line profit almost anything that can be built cheaper overseas and used as parts for a American product will be .
Why ? Because if a foreign company passes ISO certification then it's products a looked on as equal to world standards . And here's a loose example ... lets say a company like Whites is looking for a place to make the cases , battery cases or the plastics used in their products .
The American company offers to make a thousand for 10 bucks each or $10,000
A Central America company offers the same for 5 bucks each or $5,000
And a Asian Company with do them for 3 bucks each or $3,000
Now each company has a ISO certification ( or basically the quality standards are met world wide ) Which one do you think they'd choose ??? Better yet , which one would you choose if you want Maximum profit ?
I lost a great paying American job when it was bought and dissected by a Worldwide company . At least Whites hasn't sold out the whole operation ... look under the hood of your car ... how many components are made here ????

Remember this .. what you see on a tour is What they want you to see ... come on , think about it . If EVERYTHING or 100% was made in America then you'd faint when you'd see the price . IMHO ,

Sweeper, Woodstock, it's a cryin' shame you guys don't know nearly as much as you post you know. I worked for White's, I now work for First Texas; and I've personally toured both Tesoro and Garrett factories. Mr. Stout is absolutely right, if you want to see what the factories produce in-house, maybe you ought to visit the factories.

I can tell you, for example, that White's gets their injection-molded plastic from an outfit in Albany, Oregon; First Texas gets theirs from Phoenix, Arizona. The little 'AA' battery holders? Yep, they're all made in China; there are none available made-in-USA. Companies get some of their parts where they have to get them, there's no choice; where there is a choice, they try to source domestically. All of the "big 4" US detector companies do a heckuvalotta real manufacturing in the USA. Way more than most of the other stuff you can buy.

I'm personally proud to be a part of an industry that's still trying hard to employ Americans, and hasn't sold out to the lowest bidder. If you want to see for yourself instead of just believing we're a bunch of sell-outs, pick any one of the companies and ask for a factory tour. I'll gladly show you what we do in El Paso.

It's a Crying shame you don't know the facts too, Because you would have seen SHowards Statement about not just the battery holders But the Battery Boxes are made in China and, but so are some of the body parts and they come complete with Country of Origin Stickers as Per US Law . Based on the fact relating to the cost of making such parts IE $50 in the US compared to 10 or 12 dollars when made over sea's, Not to mention US Pollution Laws, Because in the US people want certain Items but they are not prepared to put up with such levels of Pollution Created During the manufacturing process, NOT MY WORDS but those of the person in Charge at WHITES.

And of Coarse you no longer work there, So you will not have been involved in any of the decision Making and such info would have been on a "Need To Know" Bases.

I think all the foreign made suggestions are simply chasing ghosts Carl. I hear a lot of shrieks, and chain rattling, but when you try to wrap your hands around it, there's nothing there. Personally I beleive all the American detector manufacturers are doing well at keeping their operations/materials as domestic as possible.

Sweeper60,

Actually, if this is the Carl that I think it is, he knows more about the companies he mentioned than you do. He was the Engineering Division Manager at White's Electronics (where he surely had a "Need To Know" basis) and is now the Engineering Manager at First Texas. I think he knows what he is talking about.

Yeah and he has not worked there for a couple of years.

Don't Take my word for it, GO AND READ IT for your self on their Forum and take Carl with you then you will both see who knows what,

But don't start with the attitude with me, Go and LOOK,,,,,,, Look under the MX Sport page and read MX Sport Made In China, and you will see Whites Official word in Print.

No "Attitude" just pointing out the facts.

I know who Carl Is and his History, But that still does not change the fact that a few of the Body parts as well as some internal parts are made in China, Go and read it for your self, When people are buying machines with the words printed on stickers saying Made In China on them Can Only mean One Thing.

With all respects to Carl, They are FACTS.

I read Steve's post, and as badly worded as it is, it still doesn't say what you think it says.
