Would You Buy an MX Sport today??

If MX Sports were available today (not sure if they are or not) would you buy one or not and why or why not??

Hey Doc ... I agree . And even then I'd wait till Whites says the problems are solved as well . And any of the sponsors that have then new ones verified perfect from Whites when leak issues are resolved are about as good as Keith .
But keep in mind that ATPro's still leak now and then and even though Whites will resolve the leak's they only have a two year warranty and they should consider ANY leak's repaired at anytime for free . Those "O" rings should be stress tested and simulated age testing for shrinkage and last at least 5 years or more and fail a month after their 2 warranty expiration . IMHO , Woodstock

I would raise Heck with White's and demand a full refund, it is the only right thing that White's must do.

Absolutely..... It does extremely well for my type of hunting.

I had thought about it for a while but after seeing all of the issues it has, I will have to pass for the time being. Hopefully Whites will take care of them. I like their detectors and currently have the MXT All Pro.

Paul...what type of hunting....what part of the country are you in and what are your soil conditions??

Live on the West Coast, Central California. Very fortunate to live between Coastal mountains and Gold County mountains. Mostly relic hunting, and fresh water during the summer months.

Mineralization is fare to extream, depending on location. Use what works best under these conditions, MX Sport does well.

Because of mineralization, masking is encountered. It's there, The majority of West Coast users don't see it or know how to adjust when ground conditions mast signals.

When ground conditions are good, I'll switch with other fast processing detectors. But in mineralized soil, Strictly GPX or both MX Sport and Blisstool v6.

Please take note, these are from my experiences. Others may feel different, and prefer machines more user friendly and not use a v6 or GPX.

Also will add, Those sitting on the sidelines with the MX Sport have good reason to wait. Sure, a lot of issues arrose with the MX Sport but for me most of these problems are non issue. I'm ok with no modulation, or some of the other features not faring well. Bottom line the MX Sport gets the goods from areas my Deus and other top end VLF fare terrible in, that's one of the several reasons I enjoy the MX Sport.

HH, Paul

No way and I will never buy a whites product just because of the way mx sport fiasco unfolded. Thats just me. I hear the old timers talking about how good whites customer service is or was and I will pass there are just to many good quality machines out there with good customer service for me to be stuck to one brand.

I certainly would not buy one of these machines and the reason is that i have a buying rule in place that i will never buy anything for a minimum of 12 months after release, this usually gives plenty of time to weed out any glitches or flaws in the product. This is a classic case of how this has saved me from these horrendous 'glitches'.

Whites have as a general rule have always been my favourite detector brand mainly due to rugged long term quality, which i find very important, but the quality in recent years has certainly slipped, would i buy another new Whites machine, highly unlikely.

Hope this MX-Sport machine eventually comes good for all concerned especially the buyers of said machine, but i feel has done terrible long term damage to the companies 'goodwill',what i will add though is that the Whites service centre in Scotland especially the guy who is the backbone of service guy,his name eludes me at the moment is about as good as what you will ever find in a service centre.

It will come good but its been not only a costly mistake financial wise but reputation as well.

I own one, don't have any issues as of yet. It's been back for firmware update, and I will send back in if screen cracks. Sometimes I may want to hunt in rain, don't want to run for my truck. I very rarely fully submerge, but have submerged my CTX. Just want the ability to do so should the need arise

Guess i'll stick with my M6 and MX5. It seems at this point the MXS faced too many problems and too many patches to try and fix it. I wouldn't feel confident in buying one. I'll wait for the next Whites machine to come out and see what that offers.

No. In my opinion the reputation of the current version of the MX Sport is now forever tainted, and resale values will suffer accordingly. I would not buy another MX Sport unless something is done at the factory to first correct all the issues, and then release units of newer manufacture that can be clearly identified as being newer units. In other words, I will wait for the MX Sport 2.

It is similar to the White's Vision, which got released again as the V3, and then again as the V3i.

Hello Mr. Herschbach.
Never thought to hear this from a white's loyal person like you. (but may be this was only my opinion.)

From what I have heard this (and some other) detectors are build outside the USA and only screwed together in the US.
Can you say something about this herasay?

Regards

If the MXSport is tainted the so should the ATPro ... I agree the best thing to do is wait until Whites fixes the problems . And as far as I can see or say about the origin of manufacture ( inside or outside ) is that many , many products we buy say " Made in the USA " are actually not . Let me explain so there is no confusion . I worked for a place called "Carter Manufacturing" in Rockford Illinois for a few years (1980-83) and they made many things there . But in there electronics division everything was imported and mostly from China . So I asked my boss why does it all say made in USA ? Can Carter get in trouble ?
And he answered me simply "no" . He added that it was legal to have labels, packages and boxes printed "Made in USA" because they were printed here in the USA . I guess it's kind of Corporate Trickery but it's legal .
Some honest folks will say today "Designed in USA and manufactured elsewhere " like China or Mexico , I'm sure we all seen labels like that , right ? So in effect if a manufacture sends circuit boards that are made in USA it will be on the circuit board but the stuff (parts) that makes it work is assembled in China or Mexico . Whole assembled products can be made that way overseas and the company making the product can have there name printed on it and know one knows any better . Also think about the costs of paying a American worker to a Chinese worker . It's been said that if you Apple was made here it cost over $2000 so what would other stuff cost ? We couldn't afford anything .... IMHO , Woodstock

I would gladly pay more money for an American made product if it would bring manufacturing back to the USA. Tesoro is one such company and White's is too as I have taken a video tour of their factories. Maybe the resistors, transistors and IC's that are used on Tesoros pick and place circuit board assembly are foreign made I don't know But I do know that most everything is made "in House".......so there.....

If somebody was selling a first year AT Pro used I would also not touch it for all the same reasons. Some other company screwing up is not much of a consolation prize for White's in this matter. As long as people keep making excuses for metal detector manufacturers than the purchasing public deserves what it gets when these things get pushed to market before they are ready.

The MX Sport is made in Sweet Home, Oregon. Some electronic components and the arm strap are made in China. White's probably makes as much of a detector as can be made in the U.S. but these days you just can't get some electronics parts that are made in USA. This is a relatively baseless accusation.

NO - I would not touch their products until White's ideology changes within management - What an absolute debacle on how they have handled their MXS and its ongoing issues - Detectors can be fixed however the poison in White's itself will stay long after their current product issues are resolved -

It ain't the same since Kenneth White retired, same thing happened when Jack Gifford retired from Tesoro...the children fumbled the ball and dropped it.

I read somewhere a Whites person stated someting like only 10% or less than 10% of all MX Sports SOLD have had issues. Winder what the number SOLD is and it would seem to me 10% would be a fairly steep number, no? That would be 1 in 10...wonder how many people that own them have a problem and are not even aware they have a problem? Or newcomers thst have tried them and got so frustrated they put them in a closet not aware of issues that their particular machine may have do to software?
