V3i

Thanks Scott..........well stated.........(if it comes out)

There is no use in complaining. Just buy the upgrade or don't. Be glad that they are offering an upgrade, some companies just give the option of buying a new machine.

Frankly, these days 150 bucks isn't that much and if I can get a new and improved machine every year for 150 bucks I will be one happy camper!!!

Julien

I don't mind paying for an upgrade but I do expect to be treated fairly... you know, the same as everyone else. Why do CA people get a special deal? I am sure there must be some reasonable explaination... just something I havent thought of.

Maybe there will be a special deal for people in the Southeast next. We will wait and see.

J

I will pay for all of the upgrades for regular posting membes on this forum and we will get a dand dongle!

When I win the lottery, gonna buy all the girls on my block a color TV and a bottle of French perfume... when I win the lottery... Camper Van Beethoven: "When I win the Lottery" from the Key Lime Pie album. "Pitch a Tent" records

and a darn good album even if I totally disagree with the politics....

BTW...I mean it, when I win the lottery... we all get free upgrades and a dongle.... when I win the lottery.

I fully expect to win it too. Several years ago I dreamed two dreams rightbefor I awoke one morning. I dreamed I won the lottery and I dreamed that a filling fell out of a tooth. That morning as I was brushing me teeth a filling fell out into the sink... for real. So, I await the lottery but I don't buy tickets regularly. I don't figure that really matters though. I only buy Powerball and Mega Millions tickets... I plan to win BIG when I win.

J

jbow, you win the lottery and I'll replace that filling for you too! Have tools will travel! (This little ol' Dremel and JB Weld does wonders!)

I wish you luck on that Lottery ;-)

I've used Whites machines for years and have talked others into buying them, I rate them number 1. However, charging $100 plus shipping for an upgrade on a detector that is less than a year old and still on warranty just isn't right. I'll be very disappointed in Whites if this happens.

Its very easy I think to misjudge Whites for this upgrade. Personally I love this upgrade possibility and i understand the benefit from it.

Whites could easily have waited another year or more and then released the V4 or V3 SE for that matter. They could even have dropfed these upgrades in several models and called them NEW. These upgrades contain far more from V3 to V3i then I see in other brands New models. And they pop up very regularly will full marketing hype.

Then You would have to buy a New detector and sell your V3 at a devalued price.

But now You dont need that.

I hope the majority of V3 users see it this way.

Then charge everyone the same .Its not the upgrade or the buying of it.To me it is charging some some and not others , my money is just the same as the next guys, buys the same things. And is just as hard to come by. Yazoo

When we get our upgrade, do we get a new decal on our box or an i added? I know it is probably a little early to ask, and most probably don't care, but if you know, please post a reply.

I see your point and I am happy that it is an upgrage instead of a V3 "SE" a year from now. However, if I had just bought a V3 a week or two ago and now had to pay to upgrade it I would be truly upset adn in fact when I bought my V3 I was upset but that was a little different. When I bought mine the updates had been out for about a month, maybe a little more, and mine needed updating and it had come straight from the distributer, whom I called. He had no idea and told me it was the latest update. It was not and he found out. He called me and offered to replace the machine himself the next week when he got the machines with the updates but White's had already taken care of it. Now, if the update came out after I bought my machine, then I think I would have just had to update like everyone else and while I might have thought myself to have bad timing, I would have just used it a bit then sent it in... plus the update to the software didn't cost anything because it made some features work better.

This update from V3 to V3i actually adds functions so it shouldn't be free. I don't understand why anyone who bought after September '09 gets it for free since it is actually a more costly machine BUT... it is none of my business. I think someone from another company said it well. Dave Johnson, when the LTD came out had to address this same complaint. He referenced the Gospel story of the day laborers. Some were hired in the morning, some later in the morning, some at noon, some at 3:00 and a few just before quitting time. When time came to pay them those who were hired last were paid first and they received a full days wage, then those who were hired first, when they received a days pay for a days work complained thinking that they should get more because they worked longer but the landowner said that they had agreed to work for the wage and it was in his power to do with his money as he saw fit and why were they upset because he was generous?

It is the same here. They could charge everyone but they have decided to be generous to recent buyers, how is that any of our business?

I totally understand how you feel but it isn't worth getting upset about, just be happy for those who are getting a break and be thankful that White's didn't hold these new features, add a few more and release the V3i in another year as a whole new detector. I am very thankful for that, really pleased. That say's a LOT about White's and it is a decision on their part that truly favors US. They need to make money and new features should be paid for. They could well have waited and released another machine... I don't recall a company ever doing this. I think they made the right decision and if they want to be generous to the most recent buyers, well that say's even more good about White's. They are surely doing their best to please everyone and the obviously care about the end user. We just have to take a step back and think about it, it is good for us!

I am impressed.

I hope that maybe on the next upgrade they will add a USB port so that software updates can, even if they cost a little, can be done online. They should be able to do this if no new hardware is needed. Line6 and other audio companies do this all the time. Not having to ship the detector somewhere would be a huge improvement to the update procedure... but if it is never an option I am sure that there will be a reason and not an excuse. I think White's has proven that they care about us and our experience with White's and their products.

That they are going to make it so that we can send them or take them to more places around the country, other that Oregon... well that is good too! Some people will have the option to drive to the place and it certainly wont cost me as much to ship my machine to Kentucky or Florida as it would to ship it to Sweet Home... maybe the return shipping will turn out to be less too.

I am happy. White's isn't a charity, it is a business and they are going beyond the call of duty IMO.

I'll buy some tickets today...

laff,

Ohhh, I haven't thought of that. That would be nice!!

I have been reading these post and waiting to weigh in on this until I was in the right frame of mind. I can see both sides of this. On one side you have the people that are like the biggest fans of Whites and have always been loyal that feel kinda cheated and maybe dont have the money for the upgrade.( like myself) And on the other hand, Whites could have just made it available only on the new detector and made it where you had to buy a new one. I understand that it cost Whites money to do this upgrade and they are a business. Whites has done alot for me in the past and I am sure they have for alot of others. Maybe it could have been handled a little different, maybe Whites put alot of thought in how they would handle it...... I know that since the detector first came out, I have had mine back to Whites for repairs 4 times and also had the coils back that are bad twice. ( waiting on two to come back now) I have paid shipping on all of these things but Whites has also paid the return shipping. It does bother me that some will be getting the free upgrade while others have to pay. I kinda feel like I am being punished for being one of the first to get the Great new machine that wasn't really ready to be released yet. Then when all the bugs gets worked out and I have paid lots of money in shipping, I have to pay again if I want the latest upgrade to the machine. I dont like being in the middle like this. I do understand business and I know they have to make a profit to stay in business but maybe there is some other way???? Maybe not have a cut off date and charge everyone 50 dollars for the upgrade?
I think that is what is bothering people the most is that the ones that waited to buy, the ones that may not be the most loyal, the ones that may have just bought there very first Whites machine...will get the upgrade for free.

Hi Magic, I understand your side. I bought mine early too. Whites had to use up the supply Of V3's they have out there and who would buy them if they can get a V3i. Remember they (the new buyers) still have to pay the postage for the upgrade. It's much the same as when Microsoft came out with the Windows 7. All the computers out there in the stores got free upgrades. Also remember the Vision thing. If Whites were to take back the V3's at the dealers they can't be sold as new. Again just my take on things. I wish it were cheaper or free too. I read a post from Carl saying another upgrade won't be happening. Highly unlikely, as in "not at all." Another way to look at it is you are upgrading from a V3 to a V3i. This post wasn't trying to make people happy  and won't change anything.

I've got too many detectors now and will be selling a Mr. Bill IDX and MXT. I will lose more money selling them or trading them in then I will upgrading my V.

I really don't understand all the bitchin on this thread? I'll point you to all the F75 owners who took it in the shorts when the LTD came out. Even if they didn't upgrade (by buying a new more expensive machine) the value of their F75 went into the basement. They're dime a dozen these days. ;-)

This IS NOT an update. All of whites updates have been free. This an UPGRADE (i.e. it's not fixing a problem) We should all just be happy whites built the V on an upgradeable platform.

So theres a handful of people getting the upgrade for free. Big deal. Whites did the fair thing again here. The V3i was in the works - you gotta sell the current (non-i) stock.

Is the way they are doing it perfect? No, but it's as fair as it can be IMO. I challenge you to come up with a better way to do it while still being fair to Whites. It's not fair to ask them to upgrade every V for free.

A BIG Thank You to Whites for not making me buy a new machine to get the new features!!!!

But frustration will always be a part of it when You buy a new machine close to an upgrade, whites took care of that but unfornunately some early buyers have had their machine sent in numerous times and get pissed.

I remember when other machines have been released. E-Trac release was very tight lipped and many bought their SE PRO just days or hours before even dealer got the info.

I will say again.

This is the best thing I have ever seen in customer care.

My V3 will be a New V3i for change and no devaluation of my machine. My guess is it even gets a new polish...:cheekkiss:

Let it sink in folks and think about what many of as say.

Rob,
I really do understand, Especially from Whites point of view and Yes I am happy that I dont have to buy a new detector. I guess it just kinda through me for a loop being that the V3 is so new and we waited so long for a new detector with the DFX and now the V3 has only been out a year and we get another new one to try out. I am exited about getting mine upgraded to the V3i but it will have to wait until season is over, I have had mine gone to many times waiting for it and now that season is in full swing, I wont be letting mine go for nothing unless it just completly crashes!
I am reading your post about the new features and look forward to getting them and trying them out. I will be going to the DFX hunt in a few weeks and it would have been nice to take one of the V3i's to the hunt and show all the guys. I took my VISION last year when it was new and showed everyone and let some of them use it and I think it made some sales for Whites.

I remember when a certain multi frequency machine first hit the market, it was plagued with problems from failing plastics to pushpads failing. The answer was to release a new model with the same name but called mark II. Everybody rushed out and parted with there hard earned cash for this "new" detector but all it was really was the same machine with the problems fixed and a few bells and whistles added. We are now onto the fourth generation of this machine, each time you would have paid about a
