V3i

Jerry,

I do not believe your assessment in this matter is all that fair. It is no different then when the IPOD touch phone came out and everyone ran out and bought one. Then Apple made improvements and released a newer version at a later date. At least White's is providing the opportunity to upgrade and you are not forced to go out and buy a completely new machine in order to get the upgraded features.

There has to be a cut-off of where it is equitable for White's to serve recently purchased units verses units that were purchased a while ago. They determined a line and that line is November 2009. That is only far market practices.

As for bugs, I have to agree with Rcasio44 here. Name the bug fix that you are getting with this release? What about the fixes that every new user got with the headphone volume adjustments when the Spectra first came out? How much did that cost the people to get that upgrade? Little or nothing, if memory serves.

I just thought I would say my mind on this upgrade just a little. This does not begin to be right that if you got the V3 after 11/1/09 you get a free upgrade . After all there were quite a few sold that were some of the first to get one with all the bugs that went with them.We helped to iron out some of the first bugs by finding them and telling others how to get around them or letting whites know about them.I sorta feel cheated that we paid the higher beginning price and the late comers get the cheaper prices along with the gravy of free upgrades. Now in all fairness I really think the tried and true that waited this all out by waiting for the new machine and being dedicated whites buyers and being some of the first to get one, we should get the same treatment. We are still under warranty. After all we didn't run off to the competitors, and we stood behind Whites waiting on the V3. This is just my Opinion and as far as I know everyone is entitled to one. Thanks for being left out for buying early and promoting this great V3. Yazoo

Yazoo is right on. If the original Visions had not sold, would Whites have continued to build machines to stockpile in a warehouse? I doubt it.

Well there are a few who will get the free update but I don't know what they paid for their units. There had to be some kind of cutoff date. If it makes you feel any better the new V3i will be a $100 more then our V3, to buy a New V3i it will have a Retail Price from Whites of $1799.95 . So we got to use our V's for a year and except for shipping we really are paying the price new buyers will pay. The free upgrades will still have to pay return shipping.

Whites is setting up service centers to do the upgrade. They will be in VA, ILL, FLA, and CAL. They will not be ready for another few weeks. Rob

Now for my English penny worth !! I agree with Yazoo here. It does seem a little unfair as the people that bought the original Vision and early Spectra do seem to be getting the wet end of the stick ! They were the ones that helped Whites with the early bugs and they are the people getting hit the hardest. I paid top wack for my V3 over here and I wont be getting this upgrade, as most of the "benefits" I don't and wouldn't use and I disagree with having to pay to have the V3 back into Scotland for any upgrade. Sorry here is an olddie again but we were promised a usb dongle and we were led to believe that all future software upgrades would be sent to us via the website and we would be able to download them and use the usb dongle. This as we know has never happened and for one I believe that Whites see a bigger market for profit by NOT bringing the usb dongle out !! Like I say, only my opinion but I bet I am not the only one to be thinking this ?
I also can understand that Whites are making available the V3i upgrade for us with the V3 and they have to make some money as people wouldn't just get rid of their V3 they have and dash out and buy the new detector.

Regards,

Dave

Carl has already posted concerning the dongle. There will be no updating with the dongle.. That was not the intention. It will be for exchanging programs only. So when it comes out you will still not be able to use it for updates.

Last year there was no V3i. There was a V3, we bought one. $1699. MSRP

This year there is a V3i if you are a new buyer and want one $1799. MSRP

If you want to upgrade your V3 1699 +$100 = $1799.

Sounds like it costs me the same as a new buyer and I used mine a year. Remember this is MHO. Now how would we feel if we had to sell ours and get a new V3i what would this cost us? I knew not everyone would be happy. Also remember you don't need the upgrade and you will still have the same detector you loved just a couple of days ago. Rob

Well, you might be right with part of it but the first Visions were selling at 1799.00 with head phones when new. That was unless you could find a dealer to go cheaper and there was no ordering from a dealer and having it shipped .So some did pay a good price in the beginning for the Vision, V3. My whole problem with it is either all or none, why a cut off .I shouldn't be paying more for buying early . I done said my piece and I dont like the way this is being done. Yazoo ( Mike Yates).

No problem Mike.

But just late this February I finally sent the Vision in for software up grade's and pod repair. It is a year old today the 10th and I waited to be sure to get the latest stuff! It would have been nice to know this was coming then. And yes I'm one of the fool's who paid full price for one. But in the future I will let my $ do my talking!

No one from White's or anyone in the know ever promised you a dongle Dave. Early in the game Carl did mention that one was in the making and he stated that it would be for the exchange of programs via the WHP and a computer. You, speculators and hopefuls are the ones who started playing make believe on down-loadable software upgrades. If you remain patient you may see the dongle yet...........no promises though............

White's don't mind sending me E-Mail on SOME things. But on this "UPGRADE" they don't see fit to send me info on what is something I might want!

Any one this: Shhh! A 2-for-1 deal so good ... it's a secret!

http://whiteselectronics.com/component/dealer/lookup/93030.html

I could have got a new V3, sold the Prizm, sent the V3 in for the upgrade for the cost of shipping!

I would have liked to learn about this V3i from White's.

I put up with an ill working Vision with a bad coil from Mar. till Aug. White's did replace the coil and supply a cover. Thank You. White's did repair the Pod assembly. Thank You. White's did the software update Thank You. ALSO White's re-tuned the V3 or changed something. Because when the V3 got back to me, I put the BigFOOT coil on and it worked a LOT different. White's (Todd) did not answer my e-mail question this.

>>This upgrade has nothing to do with mistakes.<<
I understand this.

>>I do not believe your assessment in this matter is all that fair.<<
Thanks Butch.
>>As for bugs, I have to agree with Rcasio44 here. Name the bug fix that you are getting with this release?<<
Butch, I don't think I said this was a "bug fix".

>>What about the fixes that every new user got with the headphone volume adjustments when the Spectra first came out?<<
You think of this as an "upgrade"? And you question how much this cost? White's may be able to put a $$$ amount for putting the VISION on the market to soon!

Jerry

Some dealers might have tacked on an extra $100, although I have never heard of that, but I believe full retail has always been $1699 Mike.

All Machines that are still under warrenty should be covered, far as I know that shoud be all of them. I would pay $100 for an upgrade that would properly ID a old square cut rusty nail at 10 inches. JMO

Larry I wont squabble over the price you quote ,but I believe at first they were higher. The fact is why not charge everyone fifty bucks or 100 bucks but not have the few that get it for nothing but postage.Let the new buyers pay there difference. Then there is the 2 fer deal that has been out for awhile well hell that's just a insult to the first buyers and a kick in the arse then to charge the ones that went out bought the vision for the upgrade. Fair is fair its just a slap in the face to us tried and true that bought the Vision new and as soon as they could be bought. Yazoo( Mike)

The V was a giant project. It came out fully capable and we have been learning and enjoying it for a year now. Realities are, we are in an era where major things can be done with software alone. Other tech has been in this "era" a lot longer. Whites even deciding to treat this as an "upgrade" is generous. (It's a new expanded product and should only be taken for what it is... new advancement.) Upgrading for the purchased previous model, for a fair price is generous also, and maybe this was a wrong decision. Maybe they should have taken the established tact of "So sorry Charlie!" that Apple did with the iPhone. Not!!! Without a doubt, they realized this "slippery slope" and still...made the offer!!!! Why...they do care about the early adopters. Only kudo's to Whites here and will be danged if I'm going to slap the face of generosity folks. (Our society sadly adjusts to the lowest common denominator any more, and I refuse to here.)

I watch my $ too.... work hard for 'em. I'm not going to rush out and get the "i" revision because I'm still enjoying what I've got fine. None of the advancements are an imminent need thing as all they do is further ratchet down for a "slightly increased" decision to dig.
Eventually I'll "i" upgrade. But for now....I'll sidestep my own "slippery slope" on that one.

This whole "i" iteration was mainly for the "international" language thing. (Major importance!) The rest is truly of little consequence in the larger scheme. Chill is my advise.

Things are getting to the point where coil advancements are where we'll see a true jump in reaching a "Holy Grail". Box circuitry (without multi-point coil winding) can only go so far. That's all imaging patent stuff and what a minefield that would be and another subject anyways. Enjoy my "Vision" 1.3.

Hello Larry, we were told by various dealers over here in the U.K. my friend that the Usb dongles were for upgrades !! It seems to me, that we were mislead not by Whites but buy the dealers selling the V3 !!! It's a shame as when the V3 came out it was in opposition to the E-Trac which has this capability and like I have said, it was the dealers that we were told this. I can appreciate you siding with Whites, as if I was lucky enougth to be in your shoes, then I would also but my personelly and a few other users over here wont be shelling out for this upgrade, but thats nothing against Whites ...............

How much plainer? Look at the date.

Date: April 11, 2009 01:36PM
We are working on a USB dongle that will allow you to transfer custom program settings to & from the PC. It is not viable to use this for programming the micros, it is way too slow for that. Beyond that, there are 3 micros in V and one more in the headphones; in the audio fix, for instance, we are reprogramming 3 out of 4 of these. The hardware wasn't set up for end-user programming. We may revisit this in the next hardware design. Carl

Rob, like I HAVE said my friend, we were misled by dealers, what ever date you put up, this has nothing to do with Whites them selves !!!!

The dongle (If it comes out) will only give you the ability to go to a supplied program, adjust settings, see it all in page format, store or move to multiple files, download to V3 or, transfer to storage devices or email attachments. Data transfer only.

With something like an upgrade, it's rebuilding function and giving data a place to be stored and manipulated. Two different worlds and the later needs engineering tools, horsepower, and time to do the process. Sorry for be being redundant (with things already stated) but just trying to simplify the difference between these and what to expect.
