Tesoro Mojave?

nice collection....

just think in another 40-50 years we will have the detectors we use today in a museum or hanging on the wall like you have and say gee they were good in there day.

or option number 2 is there's nothing left to find and nobody goes detecting any more.

option 3 we are on another planet and there is all new stuff to find left by the ancients and gold etc.. raw to find.

I don't think I will go to option 4 :punch:

Seems like a lot of folks want Tesoro to make a super duper digital machine.
With cup holders, seat warmers and maybe even a backhoe to dig up the target.
I on the other hand will probably buy one just because it has an arrowhead on it!
Flintknapping is one of my favorite pastimes.
Keep it old school Teaoro!

Hello pinenut,

Couldn't help but noticing you mentioning living near Mojave desert, small world. I used to detect the Mojave desert, detect old Tehachapi town, detect around the Keen area and up around Fort Tejon area.

Auctally, even lived and worked in Tehachapi for short periods back in the nighties. Not sure were you live but it's got to be near Tehachapi, once even met and hunted with a detectorist and his son from there maybe it was you?

Small world, you live in a beautiful area rich with history. I'm back in the valley, Sure miss the mountain terrain.

Hey Paul, it wasn't me...but that explains where all the good stuff went! I'm up in the mountains behind Fort Tejon, a ways past Frazier Park. Still finding stuff up here but it's not jumping out of the ground.
I'll be out toward Tehachapi, to detect around Caliente and Bodfish soon. Love those hills in early Spring.
Maybe you left me something.. :beers:

I ordered a Mojave yesterday, should have it within the week to do same testing. Super 7 coil was worth it for me.

Anyone know when the dealer's will have the coil for sale? Or just call rusty?

Rusty told me they only had enough coils for the new machines themselves.

The coils are going to be $99. They are on the Tesoro website. My distributor has the loops ordered but not sure when he will get um.

I'm a little discouraged. I was really hoping for a coffee cup holder that accommodates various size cups! I just don't get those who contend Tesoro needs (or can) compete head on with "new technology" like screens, etc. Tesoro's go deep enough. The discrimination is great. I've had the "latest technology"; White's V3i (taking from memory), Minelab Safari, a few Garrett's, etc. Sorry folks, buttons are reliable. I get to know my machine. Like me, Tesoro's are pretty simple. I do quite well with any Tesoro I've owned. I had the Silver but had to sell it. The ground was too hot here. You can drag a magnet in the soil in some places and get a lot of iron ore stuck to it. In other places, it was great. My neighbor's Compadre did okay. According to Tesoro, the gain was higher on the Compadre. This Mojave may just be the ticket. I'm getting one.

Do i have the itch to try one of these, knowing (hoping) that there is something a little more complex around the corner. I do wish it had manual gb though for the coil changes, but other than that, looks ok to me for the price range. Can't wait to hear some honest in the field feedback....

I'm not trying to be picky but man could you imagine if this was two tone....Would be a grand slam....Maybe they have more up there sleeve coming soon...I would pay $300 + for that. However iam glad to see a great little machine that they put out.

Hello Duane,

Ok, Now I see the area you're from. Frazer Park, beautiful area Ive been all over those hills back in the eighties then later again these past 12-15 years. Caliente is an old town, was there back in the ninhties always wanted to go back.

Used to be a town at the bottom of the Grapevine back in the twenties, across from that old house between interstate 5. Used to know the owner of the home, he passed then his daughter Nadean took over. But since i believe a family relative lives there, Nadean may have passed since i was there 10 or so years ago.

Lebec, another old area boy you live in an area rich with history. Maybe someday our paths will cross, im usually down there couple of times a year.

Take care,
Paul

Hello Neil,

Your whites Coinmaster from the eighties is considered vintage, back then that was top of the line. And the older Tesoro were very popular, boy were they extremely sensitive in it's day.

The list of the vintage detectors, each name is a brand. So i auctally have gobs of others per brand, to list them all would fill a page.

The oldest are between the Goldak and a FisherScope two-box, late forties early fifties. The newest of the vintage would be late seventies early eighties, the bulk of them are from the sixties and these are BFO of various brands, but the earlier FisherScope are TR these are from fifties, sixties and early seventies. I don't believe FisherScope had BFO, all mine are TR even those dating back to the Fifties.

Thanks for asking,
Paul

Thank you Paul.
I always wanted to give one of those old ones a try, to see how a BFO responds on a target compared to the ones we use today.
What an addictive hobby...lol

What is this new technology that you seek? Just exactly what do you want a metal detector to do? I don't see too many ways you can make a beep and dig machine do much more. Discrimination is spot on, depth depends mainly on the user setting and locale, but they are flirting with coins @ 12", ... not sure what else can be done without getting into useless bells and whistles. Just curious... what would you like to see addded that wouldn't take away from what they are designed to be..(simple well made easy to use machines at a economical price point.) Seems to me the market Has already been flooded with. Gadgets, doohickeys, and all sorts of frivolous what not that cost more and does no better at the end of the day. All I can imagine I'd offer is more coils and perhaps the ability to custom order a rig with the mods you want straight from the factory.

The technology they are seeking is artificial intelligence. You know, the kind that tells you to pass over the silver dollar because it thinks it's a tin can lid! It's cool probability brought to you in living color. Nah. I'll take research, knowing my machine, and knowing the ground over electronic probability. With that said, I'm getting old & lazy. I do like a machine with a screen sometimes because when it displays "junk" under the coil, I'm elated I don't have to dig! Also, Tesoro's go deep enough. Good Lord! I don't want to be bringing in a back hoe any more. I guess you could say I'm into "sport" detecting & having fun doing it. I had a Minelab Safari with the latest tech. The signal sounded like two Star Wars robots in a heated argument! My first Tesoro, the Lobo, replaced my White's V3i (taking model from memory). The fun factor quadrupled. My finds increased.
Tones are still based upon probability. Probability because depth and soil conditions (hot or mild, wet or dry) will affect that signal.
The Mojave may be a real winner.
