Tesoro Mojave?

Mike Hillis

Well-known member
Appears to be a Silver with a ground balance switch for two different presets, and a new color scheme.

What do you think....

Nothing groundbreaking but it looks like a good base machine depending on the price. I think the 7in conc. coil is a bigger splash in the pond myself. I see it is set up at 12kh,,, hmmm, one wonders if they have a more compex unit in the pipeline...

it is here guys!

Is that all that Tesoro can offer ?? it looks like they could be using the Troy Super 7 coil and just a rehash on labels and black paint job,i of course am not 100% certain but i doubt if the guts inside are new either, possibly just a few tweaks etc and then rebadge it as the new super duper 'Mojave',cannot see sales being stellar.

Very disappointing if you ask me !!

I'm not disappointed. It's a sub $300 detector. Seems like a simple turn on and go machine, but with the advantage of 2 possible pre-set ground balances. It shouldn't take long to see some videos of this machine in action.

Maybe more like the Compadre.
It has 12 kHz operating frequency and 180 ED Discrimination.

Ground balance selection is a plus. Woodchips to Dirt without the need to groundbalance. I guess many think manual ground balancing is overrated. Look at the ACE models.

Didn't see where it said ED180 in the manual, though. but again I didn't read it, just did a quick scan through it.

I couldn't find it either. It looks by the disc dial decal that it has the full range like the compadre/Eldorado.

I didn't see in the specs that it had ED 180 but it acts like it in the video.

Did I miss the difference between the pull tab and the ring in the video? He seemed to jump to the sand without showing the pulltab/ring demo. Or did I miss a video?

I think it'll be another GREAT Tesoro, and has a couple more features over the Silver, which has been around for a LONG time. Glad to see their classic 7" coil re-released as well!

I have no doubt Tesoro has something else for us in the works too...

Yeah, I missed it to.----He sure didn't have those vids lined up very well.

12 kHz is a upgrade on silver and I will get the coil, detector I don't need have a modded compadre , looks nice though and at a good price. sure they will sell plenty who need what it has. 12 kHz with a coil change out and ground comp kool.

I think Larry did that on purpose to see if you could tell the difference without seeing what was scanned. I am going to watch them tonight and post.

Yeah I like this one especially since it has the 180 disc. I agree I think they are listening and theres more to come. Probably will be a simple functional unit, perhaps another golden micro max style with GB or who knows. For the price point, this is a good one and I don't see the silver still being made do you?

There is a fifth video now that wasn't there before. It definitely illustrates the difference, One is smooth and one has some "crackles", At least that's what I heard,

This one comes in at LESS $ than the Silver, and with better features! They're going to sell quite a few and I can see them being popular.
Silver is still listed on Tesoro's site, and it likely will be until everyone's stock is depleted. Chances are (my guess) that Silver prices may get reduced.
The Silver was a freshened up Cutlass II μMAX, and that model has been with us since '98 (I have one of them). I think this new "Mojave" is the perfect sucessor to the Silver...and I even like the name. (I live in mountains near Mojave desert, but closer to Fort Tejon)
