Wellll- Stained Glass Artist, had own studio,taught, shipped worldwide round 26yr, Actual money job was Welder in shop, made custom manufacturing machines, problem solver all kinds metals.
Oldest brother was detectorist,dealer in the 50's=my hero(deceased now), been married 48 yr. this time(happily this go round)

Well i sold real estate...Then sold autos.......... Then went into tractor trailer driver and retired from Road Way Express in 1998..........I have been detecting since 1980.......
Worked for AT&T for 21 years as a Development Manager. Left AT&T and went to IBM as a Business Area Manager. Since going to IBM in 1999, I've been a Business Area Manager, Requirements Manager, and CMMI consultant.
Been detecting since the late 60's. My dad got me into it as a young man and been hooked ever since. My first detector was a Heath Kit that I assembled myself.
I pressure wash houses , driveways , and anything that will stay still long enough to clean it. I have been cleaning property for the last 20 years. I dont know what triggered my desire for detecting 5 months ago, but when I turned 40 years old I started thinking about a hobby and I am glad that I can fill my time with this hobby. And thanks for your post John (a lot of tax payers here)
Mgr Personnel Services for an international distiller but downsized in 1993 after 27 yrs with the company, then, Insurance Agent for 6 months (hated it), then Border Services Agent for Canada Border Services Agency til retirement in 2006.
First Garrett was the Ace 250 won as a prize at a MD competition. Added an Infinium 4 months later in 2010.
AT&T for 31 years. Everything from climbing poles to high speed fibre optic data networks. My full time vocations now are 15 grandchildren. fly tying and fly fishing. watercolor painting and instruction.golf, and of course metal detecting. I will try to post my finds when I get back in town and can figure out how to do it. Interesting reading all the posts on this thread.
John, I work for the City of Los banos Ca in the Water Dept Wear i Live 4R 51 Years now , Started Detecting in 1988 with a Blue Box Whites Eagle iv hade endless Whites units

I'm a Engineering Tech. with the Gov't. Been at it for 27 years. Before that I did land surveying and did drafting for various companies. Been detecting for 37 years. Started with a Radio Shack kit, then to a Jetco Mustang then various Whites and Garrett's machines (too many to remember). I'm presently married to my lovely wife of 24 years and have 3 boy's ages 21, 18 and 12. Tryed to get them into detecting when they were younger,but to no avail. They have other interests now.
I also enjoy playing golf, flyfishing, ghosttowning. I want to start up landscape (oil/watercolor) painting again just before I retire. I had to put that on the back burner for the time being because bringing up the boy's with all their activities. And of course, enjoying the SW here with my family!
I have been working as an Industrial Maintenance Tech for the last 12 years. Fixing high speed production equipment, machinery, conveyors etc... Currently working for Steris/Isomedix. Gamma Ray sterilization of many products like medical products, makeup, spices, plastics. Spent 4 years in the USAF right after high school working on F-111 Fighter aircraft as an Avionins Technician. 23 years to go before retirement unless I find "The Cache". Been detecting for 2 years and plan to go many more. My Bro turned me on to the hobby when he showed me the 18k gold lions head ring with diamonds for eyes that he found. Already have an Ace 150 and just got an AT-Pro for Xmas and I am goin NUTS !!! 6 to 10 more inches tomorrow !!
I am self employed as the owner/operator of a small drywall company. I have been a professional Taper for about 15 years, and business owner for the last 4 years. I really love taping (call me crazy), it's very physically draining but being my own boss enables me to detect a lot!
I started detecting last summer, and my detector is the GTaX 550. However...my AT PRO WILL BE HERE TOMORROW WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
32 years in Computer Operations at a local factory, 1st detector was a Bounty Hunter TR I think, 90 bucks was a lot of dough for a HS kid back then as I remember and would not pick up a roll of silver dimes at 2 inches..hmmm..., now own AT Pro, Ace 250, and 2 Whites machines, 2 gold dredges, 2 highbankers..
Logging and sawmilling when I was but a wee lad.
Now I'm a transit bus driver for the city.
Also consider myself a dog trainer, but there is little money in it. Someday...
Worked in sales most of the time and through the years I sold everything from hard hats to real estate. Owned and operated a bookstore for several years and in amongst all that, I bartended parttime off and on. After I retired I got bored and took a parttime maintainence job at a local nursing home. Then I discovered metal detecting.....
