Question about age????

GREAT QUESTION ASKING ABOUT AGES.I'M 60,BEEN DETECTING OFF AND ON SINCE 80'S. YOU SHOULD TAKE IT ONE STEP FURTHER AND HAVE PEOPLE TELL WHAT TOWN THEY'RE IN. I'M IN LADY LAKE FLORIDA. YOU NEVER KNOW ,MAYBE SOME OF US LIVE NEAR EACH OTHER.

I know it's a big ole USofA but it could be done with a little work.
Your right Coinnut it's ashamed we can not all get together for a face, to face meeting and detecting.
Lets all put our heads together and see if it can be done. Whats your take on it ??? Lets here some suggestions

Like Coinnut, I think a get together would be much better than a competiotion hunt in my opinion.
It could be kinda like one of those organized England hunts, only be right here in the United States..

See my new post above.

ill be 64 in april.started in the early 70s.had a couple whites detectors .i got away from it around 2002.but i just ordered a new mxt so it looks like im back. tim in pa

I'm Game. With enough advance warning, I'd travel for a bit. Maybe central or south central USA. Get permission from a farmer to do his fields? But it would take a bit of effort from someone near a chosen site. Wonder how everyone else feels? Life is short and it would be kind of cool to get some of us together, because of the Internet, and meet face to face. I'd bet the stories and pictures would be well worth it (even if we don't find much). Some input everyone?

Excellent Idea Coinnut,I would be game also. Another group I was a member of (not MD'ing) held a
convention every year where we would all gather. We always chose a location in MO,as we figured it was centrally located to most of our members.

Hi, I am the Moderator on the DFX forum and we did just that last year in St. Louis Mo. We had thousands of $$ in gifts and prizes, three days to hunt in a very old park, very old silver found, educational seminars. Everyone who came had a great time. Go the Special Events Forum and read "Find's in St. Louis" for those not familiar with the event.

THE PROBLEM...........hardly anyone came, maybe 40?

Guvner and I have talked about another one this year...................... WILL ANYONE COME????????????????

It takes a lot of time and effort to plan something like this. Is it worth our while?

Hi, Most of the time events take a couple of years to develop. I suggest a modest hunt instead of going all out. As the idea takes off, then increase the efforts. My original suggestion wasn't about a competition hunt or lots of prizes. It was more for the forums to get together and have some personal time together. I would be thrilled to have had 40 of us attending. Any old farm field would do. We'd probably spend equal time hunting and talking. If it's low key and doesn't cost much, that attendance would be considered as smashing success. Anyone else?

48. Started, very briefly around '73, give or take, w/ a POS detector that wasn't selling in my dad's hardware store. All I can remember about it is that I didn't find anything interesting and it had a blue fiberglass (or plastic) coil.

Got into again about a year and a half ago when I picked up a Tesoro Sidewinder uMax. After about 6 months with that then picked up a used Sovereign. Just a few weeks ago I picked up a used Explorer SE. I seem to be hooked.

That is exactly what I am talking about coinnut. Find's in St. Louis was free for all to come and hunt, talk, do what ever you wanted. Only the seminars/personal training was extra if you wanted. Who wouldn't want to go home with a 10 ounce silver bar, a new DFX, Minelab or Garrett detector just for showing up? Our sponsors were VERY generous.

If there is enough support, we might try again this year. Let us know.................it would probably be somewhere in the Mid-west.

Count me in. Hopefully it will be during NICE weather:devil: Maybe an informal poll or mass E mail sent out to get an idea of interest. Would be nice.:clapping:

I didn't know the St. Louis event was open to all. Don't know how I missed it either..But I did..
So lets get that interest generated, and get some for certain attendee's...Might take a little effort. But Darn, it would be a fun event with a little planning.
See how many sign up and then make the decision if it's worth the time and effort. Could put a small cash value deposit for all who sign up, and if they do not show..it could be a donation to the forum. If they did show, could work out a detail where their cash,or a portion went in a pot for the best find of the day,or the furthest attendee,or something on that order. Make it where the event members covered the cost.... In advance so no one would be out a lot of money. I think the key will be someone from every forum promoting the event and getting the members to attend. Thats my take, whats yours ?????

Remember anything worth doing is worth doing right...and haste makes waste.........

I play a lot of online games and we have guild parties from time to time. The first time we talk about it 100 people are comming. 2 weeks before 50, 1 week before 20, day of 5 to 10. We do have a blast with the people who show up. I would assume the drop off rate would be the same. I love to motorhome and work for myself so if Im not busy ill go anywhere :)

I hate to spoil everyones hope on being the oldest to answer this question BUT. This year of 2008 I will be 75, but I just started 3 years ago, I hunt 3 or 4 times a week on the beaches here in Sunny Calif. Sorry about the folks back east that are having such bad weather but it should get better...Dig a gig
