Not impressed with the Mojave

Something sounds wrong with your old Deleon.
My compadre killed my ace 350 lol.
Deleon's are pretty deep machines.

You may want to get that Ace 350 checked out? ...
Lol brand new out of box.
Ace 350 did ok. If you consider it making any Boise on a target, it went deeper. But a quarter for example, besides extremely slow recovery speed, would ring as a quarter to about 5" but then past that would either read lower, or only beep one way and not the other. So I don't consider the readings past 5"-6" really. Same with the compadre. On my 8" I wouldn't count the tones that we're broken past 6" or so either.
Yes both were done indoor but in that same place so it's not a variable.

I do believe from what I saw on the videos the new 300 and 400 improved the recovery speed, but still not as fast as Tesoro. Also the 350 costs$300. Compadre costs 160. The 350 was much more succeptable to Emi as well in my testing.
Didn't help that I bought the 350 less than 2 months before the 400 released.

But for the cost and function, I preferred the compadre and sold the 350 to a coworker interested in the hobby for a great price. With bag, detector, covers, pouch, and extra coil all for $175. It wasn't getting used and he loved it.

Again, in the end it's what you like better. It works for him, so I helped him out.
Me, I prefer Tesoro and my Turkish machines. Anything fancy I get plus more with the Turkish machines and also mostly for performance needs and enjoyment I have Tesoro. That's just what I like.

Alot of people get their opinions confused with facts here in these forums.
They all find metal, just in different ways and by showing the user different things to tell them it's a target. In the end it is a hobby and each should use what they enjoy and works for them.
Beyond that is just argument that I believe takes away from the fun of the hobby.

its like Chinese whispers did you play that at school ?

starts out about Mojave and well stay tuned :buds: not that its a bad thing its just how conversations go with humans..

carry on

if i bought one, a big reason would be the coil... id like to pick one up for my B2uM. looks light and seems to be just about the right size for a good all
around coil, so i look at it like Im buying a sooped up compadre with a hot coil... $250 all day long.... damn .... almost talked myself into buying. one just now!

look heres the low down it likes clean parks with stock coil if you have parks etc with deep large stuff in them forget about it, it will drive you nuts...

it has a place for sure and working out what that is what we all have to do...

AJ

Well mine will be here tomorrow. I have only played with a tiger shark for about 10 min at my local shop and that is all for Tesoro.
I bought the Mojave mainly for my 13 year old daughter to use when she is out with me instead of being my digger lol.
Having second thoughts now but hopefully I made a good choice for our first introduction to Tesoro.

id be willing to bet it will suit your needs and that you will
be satisfied....dont worry about us complaining and bickering its out job to pick apart and argue about any new machine
wer're opinionated geeks.

works great in spots with no big deep stuff in the ground even high end detectors struggle with that at times right spots its a great detector...

just for the record and I am unsure why it is people share their opinions definition of opinion is "a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge" I don't want anyone's opinion, I want to know their experience and I do with all my might do my best to share my experience.

not having a go at anyone just if I read that word again you are going to hear me scream from where you are :lmfao:

anyway lets read our dictionary's please

AJ

PS don't get me wrong I have plenty of opinions and no one is interested in them, they are hardly even interested in my experience :buds:

I go by location and giving my area time to refill. Trashy area=Ace or MX5. Monthly revisit= Compadre or usual sites I've been over. Why?
Gold falls in the tab, foil, zinc penny, and nickel range and the Compadre gives size info and finds stuff I've missed before. I don't know why- it just does. It's a mystery I have yet to explain.

i hear ya... i dont think anyone wants to hear bs... lots of
good info here. i look forward to trying the mohave and i hat coil
on other machines.

I would put the Mojave up there with some of Tesoros top performers in small iron from past to present. I have used my Mojave in old trashy sites from Colorado to Alabama with results I would expect from a good Tesoro. There is something about the Compadre with its 12khz, ed180 disc that always made it special and u see a lot of that in the Mojave. I am down to just 4 Tesoros that I use regular nowadays all different khz, 10, 12, 14 and 17. All of them perform exceptional in the iron and see things the others dont.

I am remaining optimistic lol. I guess the worst part is I really had no budget so I could of bought any Tesoro.
Just wanted it to be simple (no manual ground balance) for my daughter.

It's a great unit for those purposes.

This make me want to mod my compadre even more, im just want to know on the 10 pot for groungbalance what turn would be the stock setting

No idea. For the cost of the mojave and the lifetime warranty I would go with that instead. Or if your ground is mild, the compadre will do fine.

You need to measure the resistance at where the factory trimpot was set. Your best bet is to set up a toggle switch with a fixed resistor that matches the trimpot setting, then switched would engage the 10 turn pot for manual GB and disconnects the resistor as per my post. There's other tricks you can play around with when it comes to single, 3 3/4 or 10 turn pot to dial in GB. I am working on some mods now. Think my Mojave might get some.

Sven, I notice 4 wires on the Compadre disc pot. Is one of them on/off/battery test? 200k like the Silver? The Silver just had three wires. I'm thinking of installing a tab check switch like on my Silver. Thanks.

I was curious as to whether or not the Mojave would be a good candidate for a manual GB mod. My Mojave wants one of the ten turn pots, like the type that is used on the Mirage. :detecting:

Never hear of anyone needing to "mod" the Vaquero, Tejon or Outlaw. Tesoro could add a feature or two to these and have one heck of a detector. Like multi frequency and/or a choice between single or two tone toggle. Like their laser Tridents with either manual or automatic ground balance switch. Seems like a few simple and cheap add on's to their best machines would make them better instead of coming up with another low cost machine that they already have out now. I would rather have something more in one of their detectors, not less. Personally, i'm not going to buy a unit with less features on it than I have now. I would like to see an upgrade in their line up. Guess Tesoro has just been stagnant too long. Like, instead of a motorcycle company making a better motorcycle, they come out with a new bicycle instead. It's backwards in my opinion and not moving forward...

The disc pot is also stacked with a on/off switch, so it has two leads just for that. Dual purpose, independent function pot, eliminates the need for a separate switch.
Picture gives you an idea of its workings. When you first turn the switch, the spring loaded contact pins will release and touch each other turning on the detector.
