New. Tv. show-american-digger/

montanagold, If the atc team has over 10 years experience then I would think they would know how to properly retrieve a target. I only have about 3 years experience and I know that much

The TV producers must have decided that proper target retreival and hole covering was'nt interesting or important enough to include in that 22 minutes of footage.

typical thought pattern of the casual observer watching THIS show!

is this what these people do when trying to get these things out of the ground?.
they are destroying the land! ohhh! my god! my god!.
what can they be thinking?.. a real "nut buster" for sure!

(h.h.!)
j.t.

by making absolutely sure you DIG PROPERLY when you open the ground!
you know the difference between right and wrong? why are we telling you this?
because you have zero common sense?,OR you are a little baby!..you are on national television!
you are damaging our reputations as responsible hobbyists,by depicting us as "clowns"
who DON'T know how to dig!....just sayin'

(h.h.!)
j.t.

we get the "money angle" ,however, the portrayal of hobbyists
utilizing these digging techniques, and generally acting like "clowns" does
NOT portray with any degree of accuracy the "real" hobbyist who has many years of treasure hunting
in his resume.we are all extremely " concerned",and care very much about HOW the general public perceives
our actions,ESPECIALLY in the field!.this show is a complete "falsehood" and is extremely "inaccurate"
it is insulting, and is nothing more than a "money grab!"..just sayin'

(h.h.!)
j.t.

it doesn't make 2 "craps difference whether you air that or not! i don't care!
what i do care about is being misrepresented, which is exactly what this show
is doing! a genuine "disservice" to all "responsible " detectorists everywhere!

(h.h.!)
j.t.

heh! heh! heh! good point i agree! (lol!)

(h.h.!)

right! not with shows like this on the air!
have to start to learn "golf" or maybe go fishin' instead!
just sayin'

Paranoia I tell ya.

It was an entertaining humorous show. I saw nothing wrong with it. Two friends goofing while metal detecting. Not at schools....not at parks. They were at places where they were INVITED to metal detect to see what was in the ground at those locations. I don't think anyone would be concerned over or even think about a few poorly filled in holes in an ABANDONED PRISON YARD.

Guys.....I don't think it was meant to be educational or to teach the public how great we are at filling our holes and disposing of the trash we find. It was meant to show the fun two buddies have while detecting....ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.

And what the heck is wrong with selling your finds to a collector or appraiser anyway? Not a darned thing! You found it.....do what you want with it. Check out the Meteorite Men series. They use metal detectors and sometimes have to dig big deep holes to retrieve the meteorites. One fellow usually saves his meteorite finds. The other fellow sells his finds for profit.

If you act as if you are doing something wrong, people are probably going to think you are doing something wrong.

Relax and Happy Hunting!

this is a "money grab" they just happened to pick our hobby
to try out their idea! they are "play acting" and its all about the buck!
just sayin'

not entertaining filling in holes! he he he! you don't want them to ''attempt" to do
the right thing do you?. besides show's too short! no time for that! (lol!) heh! heh!

(h.h.!)
j.t.

you are right! we want to still be able to hunt in the future!
after watchin' this show with these two "clowns" may as well go fishin' now!,
or become intimately "friendly" with my OWN BACK YARD,and NOWHERE ELSE!
(w.t.f!)..just sayin'

(h.h.!)

with guys like you screwing it up for everybody else, maybe we all should do
exactly that!.then no body will watch your "messed" up" show, and you'll be
out of a job! sorta like kickin' yourself in the face! huh fella?

all they are gonna do is "blackeye" the hobby by showing "digging " on the air!
in my view ya CANNOT show that in back yards! it will beat us up
in the eyes of the public!..people will NOT care about the rest of the show,
they will just disdain the "digging!" count on this! watch out! just sayin'

I can understand your point of view, but I dont think the general public is going to be up in arms over it. Case in point, I myself have just very recently put my long time desire to action and actually started "tectin" and when friends of the family heard what I had found so far, and one that saw the show "Diggers", they asked me if I'd come to there places to see what I could find. To me, I think this could open more doors than close simply because people are by nature curious. I went to a place this week at the request of the property owner. Yeah, I think it may not be as bad as you think, we'll see. H H.

in general,i do not disagree! what you say is and has proven to be true, however
whether this comes to pass is contingent upon how you "present" yourself
to others,AND how you are able to "demonstrate" that you know HOW to properly open, and
cover a hole to retrieve your target!.this is "paramount",and i can attest to this as i have been hunting for over
33 years..you ARE being watched wherever you go to hunt!..just sayin'

j.t.,

Maybe we should do our own TV show. As Bill Dance is to the sport of fishin, we could be to the hobby of detectin.

Find lots of great places to detect. I'll dig em, you fill em. Add a healthy dose of detectin education thrown in as we go. We split the finds 50/50.

Oh, and one of us should occasionally mix things up by tripping over the other's detector and fall flat on our face for comic relief. LOL :beers:

don't have a bitch with that! i guess you do get it then! we are on the same page!
i'm just worried about the future ,and with good reason with shows like this on the telly!
count me in! you can be the money man!..just sayin'!

Okay! I'll be the money man. How far will $1.72 in dirty clad get us?:sadwalk:

heh! heh! heh! i hear ya! i'm out! just got picked up for robbin' a bank!
(lol!) we need a corporate sponsor! heh! heh! heh!

MontanaGold, you can offer all the rebuttals you wish to in regards to the criticisms here. That is your right as it is ours. I do agree with you on one point. Detecting should be fun and there is nothing wrong with showing it on a television show. However, because you are on a public medium (television), there is a responsibility to the hobby that goes with it. Whether you personally agree with that concept or not. Perhaps you might wish to view this Findmall video courtesy of Mike Scott, head of sales for First Texas Products (Fisher/Teknetics). Here are a group of very experienced detectorists horsing around and having fun. But do take note of the sense of responsibilty/history that these detectorists relay to the viewers regarding this wonderful hobby/pursuit.

Perhaps you could incorporate concepts/actions similar to this in your upcoming shows......even if you have to do re-editing of finished episodes. We are your peers regarding this hobby....and to get this level of criticism from your peers usually means something isn't being done right. Everyone makes mistakes.....its a matter if a person choses to man up and admit to it.....and then make the necessary changes.

Remember that being in the public eye by choice does open you up to commentary by the public.
