The Cool Tool looks like an early Fish Line dryer, just a guess!

Hummm I never knew they had a fish line dryer ;)

I THiNK We HAvE A PREAcHER In THE ROOm!!!! OH LORd THank YOU foR THE OLD BOTTLes FORUM. AND FOR CORN CHOWDER!

Mr Seitz, Famous author and sportsman Zane Gray I believe had one something like yours with a cast iron dryer. Many of them were made of wood. They were basically used for Fly Fishing line. A lot of the early line was actually made of silk. I'll see if I can find a photo for you that pictures one like yours.

Hi Smeegle, welcome to the forum!

Hi Mr Seitz, Just to give you an idea here is a newer style although still quite old.
I didn't think to ask you the size of your "cool tool" as some were reels that were designed to help keep the line dry. I believe yours is late 1800's, it has a neat webbing design, Nice find!

Cool ..nice to know, mine has a long handle on it also. When you say line do you mean netting? or fishing line like we have today,I'm sure they didn't have mono filament like we use today,so what did they use ?

Pretty much it was Silk Line back then although other materials were used. Fly Line is usually always thicker than bait casting line. The piece you have was for line, not netting. It possibly was a reel/dryer combo.

Hey Smeg its better then worshiping the devil  or don't you think so?

yes. it is better than to worship satan. i am a skeptic about the whole heavin and hell thing. but I do believe there is a god for sure. satan can munch my fanny. i do not like him! :hot:

Just checking

Basically when modern plumbing became available people filled in their outhouse holes with their trash. As well as when the outhouse was in use even before modern plumbing items were tossed in or dropped.
