Hi all!

My name is Ron, and I live in Vancouver, Wa. I'm a 56 year old machinist looking for a hobby to get me out of the house and moving. I've been lurking for about 3 weeks as an unregistered user, and am ready to buy my first "real" metal detector. I had a old cheap detector years ago. The area I live in has fairly mineralized soil, and the Columbia river runs through here. Might also take it to the ocean on occasion. Not interested in going swimming with one, but knee deep wading might be an option. After about 2 months of research, models in my budget include the Garrett AT Pro, or AT Pro Gold, and a Fisher F5 DD. Anyone out there with experience with both have any pro's or con's (other than the AT Pro being waterproof to 10') or any sage advise? I'm looking to spend around $800 to $1000, and want to get a Garrett Pro Pointer, and possibly an extra search coil (or 2) Another I've considered is the Bounty Hunter Platinum. I'm mostly interested in :

1) Build Quality
2) Performance (especially in mineralized soil)
3) Warranty and customer service from the manufacturer

I also like the Tesoro's but understand they don't do that well near the salt

Thanks in advance for any input, and this is gonna be fun! :

Hello to all! I am a newcomer ( here and the hobby ) with an ACE350 in hand. I look foreward to picking everyone's brains and I would especially enjoy getting to know any and all in the North Texas area. I feel that I am going to need all the help that I can get! Are there any groups in the Red River area north of Dallas?

May have made my first post in the wrong place I'm new so you will gave to excuse me here from Ohio using an AT pro very new to the art of MDING

Hi, I am a new here...I just got my ACE350 and pin pointer in the mail on Monday. I am headed out to the beach tomorrow morning to see what I can find!

Hello Everyone. I haven't been metal detecting for quite some time. I retired at the end of 2012 so I decided to get back into this wonderful hobby again. I figure with my honey do's - photography - golf and now metal detecting I'll have plenty to do. I purchased a new CTX 3030 Feb 22 and been out a couple times. So far only modified the factory coin mode to get me started and to learn the different tones. This unit to me seems to pick up one target to another very quickly. Also love the way it picks up multiple targets and separates them. My other detector was a minelab explorer 2 that I had success with.
Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone! Been detecting for a long time, but I am new to the forums. I've been out a couple of times already this year. Can anyone tell me how to add the logo's (White's) to the signature box? Hope everyone has a great season!

Hmph, I'm lost. I am looking for a place for new folks like myself to get tips and info. Just looking around i've seen some terms i don't understand (clad) and I really want someone to explain the different levels of sound I should be looking for so I can quit digging up foil and pull tabs :)

Thank you!

Hey JW. I am new here and would love to win and/or buy accessories. I called Kelly co earlier, and left#. Need to find a shooter coil for my new Prizm 6t etc.

Hello!
I stumbled about these forums as I was searching for a way to replace my misplaced wire for DEUS underwater detecting without having to buy a new one.
Started detecting about 7 years ago with an XP Goldmaxx Power, later migrated to the DEUS for its versatility and comfort.
Visited the USA a few times for some Microsoft events and purchased equipment which you don't get in Germany or only overpriced (Garrett Retriever, Lesche Digging Tool, a sandscoop for dry sand, Sidewinder Compact headlight). If there would not be all the complicated customs stuff, I think I would buy even more (eying for a SIMMS waders for a while, which is really overpriced in Germany compared to US pricing).
My forum name comes from my last military rank in East German army before reunification.
Hope to find here new friends and share some experience about our great hobby.
Best greetings from Germany
Olaf
