NEW GARRETT AT PRO FAULTY PLEASE HELP

Never use a coil cover for a lot of reasons, mostly not good ones too!
Coil is just fine... I mean cmon! They're solid poured epoxy!
Just don't go banging into things carelessly!
Pete

coil cover in the woods is no problem,at the beach is huge problem.

If the coil covers are removable, then I would leave it off at the beach as recommended.

I made mine a permanent part of the coil that is water tight. I "can" remove the cover (with some effort) if I need to replace it.

I do a lot of woods hunting myself and even when you try to be careful, you will bump, scrape, snag the coil on something in their.

To me personally, it's nice to have that added protection in the confined areas I work in at times.

Just my 2-cents on coil covers. :)

Let us know how things work out maliaros, thanks. :)

i was planning to go this morning to test but my baby daughter woke up at 05:00 and i couldn't go alone.
the matter is during summer because of the heat and the lots of tourists and locals visiting the beaches everyday there certain times to go for hunting, 05:00 - 08:00 and at night time if the places are not full of beach parties.
the good thing is that the nose plier did the job to push the connector all the way in.
another suspect is the upper shaft that i had it less than 10" from the coil.

thanks people.

I hope everything works out for you maliaros, I'm glad you were able to get the plug-in seated properly.

Family first, Metal Detecting is second for me. :)

I went today to beach but took only the other noise machine with me my daughter.
As my friend night crawler said family comes first and metal detecting comes second.

a gave it a test today with all as advised, velcro ties, the connector fully inserted, slow auto G.B, manual G.B, low sens, zero disc and it didn't even GB on the dry sand - bouncing digits in 45-50 range and falsing in every swing.
tomorrow morning my second ATP within a month will have its last trip to the dealer and am done it.
i can't afford at this time to have 2 metal detectors one for land and one for beach/surf so i will reclaim my ACE350 plus the extra 300 EURO i paid for the ATP.
I will enjoy the good dry sand and fair wet sand hunting that my ACE350 can give me and save the 300 euro + any savings that i will make for a future purchase of a PI detector.

thank you all guys.

I'm sorry to hear that maliaros.

How does the AT Pro act around your house (back yard)?

Something isn't right maliaros. Are you in detecting mode after you manual ground balance? You have to hit the button again after you GB manually.

Just some suggestions here:

1- Walk outside with the MD (and away from any interference)
2-Turn it on
3-Hold the coil in the air about 3'
4-Push the power button in and hold it for at least 5 seconds (2 beeps for factory Reset).
5-Reset the MD for Pro- Zero-No Discrimination-No Iron Audio
6-Bring "Sensitivity" down to 1-Bar showing (Low)
7-Auto Ground Balance (only) slowly 5 or 6 times then release the GB button in a clean area
8-Make certain your in Auto Ground Balance first Not Manual (Displayed on screen)
9-Then swing the coil just above the ground and slowly bring up the "Sensitivity" until it starts to make noise
10-You can keep it their or bring it back down one notch to make it a bit quieter.

Do this procedure (6-10) over different areas other than the beach for now and see how the MD reacts to different conditions. If you get the exact same results, then something isn't acting the way it should.
-Bad Connection
-Bad Battery/Batteries
-Bad MD (simple as that)

This is the way I narrow things down to Outside conditions affecting the MD or the condition of the MD itself, this is what I do every time if I get any interference with my MD. It's only happened a couple of times it was always under ground power cables affecting it.

When I can get a hit on a drain pipe which is (11/2 - 2' in dia.) that's 36" deep with a good VDI (have the video to prove it) then you can see how much more sensitive the AT Pro is from your 350. Having said all of that maliaros, it's important to enjoy this great hobby of ours and if means switching back to something you feel more comfortable with, then that's what you should do then.

I'm trying to "Exhaust" all avenues here before you make that decision.

Let us know how things work out or what you have decided maliaros, thanks.

:)

I went to the dealer today to return the ATP but we agreed to give a last chance with the 5x8dd coil.
so now its up to GARRETT if they are willing to send us a coil for testing.

the dealer told me that if still no improvement with the 5x8dd he will speak with Garrett for a free upgrade to infinium ls or my ex ace350 + sea hunter or refund.
now what shall i wish to happen?

I say again, a high single frequency detector having problems on wet sat sand beaches, go figure. It's not the fault of the detector. It's the nature of the beast. My daddy always told me, "Believe half of what you see, and NONE of what you hear." Some do, some don't.

So from your point of view I have to deal with a misleading advertisement?
How can one of biggest and best MD manufactures be so wrong?

The 5x8dd is on the way from USA to Cyprus for the last battle.

Hi maliaros

I have no idea what FR is talking about or who he/she is directing the "Believe half of what you see, and NONE of what you hear" to. It's uncalled for either way.

Everything I said to you here are facts and can prove it if need be.

The 5x8 coil is very good at separating targets, just be aware to turn the sensitivity down (to about 1 bar from the bottom), ground balance, slowly bring the sensitivity up until you get the chatter, then back off 1 notch.

This is the way I ground balance my MD with when I have the 5x8 coil on it in salt water conditions and works well (for me).

I hope things work out for you maliaros, you have sure had your share of problems here.

Please keep us updated, thanks.

PS: As for a PI MDs maliaros, There good and deep and handle the Salt and Minerals better, just be aware here, they are nowhere near as informative or sensitive and they have a bit more of a Learning Curve than the AT Pro or the 350 where you can pretty much turn on and go. The PI MDs are not a turn on a go unit.

Just to make you aware of that.

:)

Hello,
I believe you and I believe on the machine that's why I insist so much.
I am aware of the PI MDs and this is the reason my priority is the Fix/tune of the ATP.
all the beaches were I live and hunt are really very trashy and discrimination is a must.

I will update soon, thanks.

The 5X8DD is arrived and tomorrow I will test in the same spots that the 8,5X11 couldn't G.B.

today i had the chance to take my ATP with the 5X8DD coil to the beach for the test and hunting.
well...the truth is that this small coil really does miracles on separation and discrimination and the ATP WORKS JUST PERFECT EVERYWHERE except the wet sand and surf what still can't help the machine to auto or manual GB.

But i have decided to live with it and just change the GB number to 10 without attempting to pump when i reach the wet sand .
Even with the continuous chattering i can still recognize the tones that hide something below.

My final thought is will keep the ATP with the stock and 5X8DD coil that came free of charge from GARRETT and save money to buy a PI machine until the next summer.

Thank you all people for the help.

one last thing that i have just noticed in the manual.

Typical Ground Balance Ranges:

80-99: Highly ferrous (magnetite, ferrous oxide minerals,
black sands, hot rocks, terra cotta)

0-20: Highly conductive, non-ferrous minerals such as
saltwater

what about if the saltwater beach is full of black sand and hot rocks?
from my gold prospecting experience i know that almost all beaches of my country are loaded with hot rocks and black sand!!!!!!!

so base on the above is it normal that the machine can't ground balance?

do i have to call garrett and apologize?

cheers
