NEW GARRETT AT PRO FAULTY PLEASE HELP

Just returned home from testing and the machine just refuses to GB below the 50s range.
I will contact garrett first and tomorrow return the MD to the distributor.

Hi, I think you have to do a test on dry ground inside a crop field, meadow, etc.. If it works then the problem is on the beach and sand ... if it works well, unfortunately, you have to send it to repair ... To me similar things happen in the sea and wet sand of the sea but in the dry sand and in the field I have no problem, on the contrary I am very satisfied.
Courage! and after sales service, is second to none garrett

I called the distributor today on 09:00 and told him the bad news and he asked me bring the MD to his shop to send it for repair.
2 hours later I head to his shop. Since I got my self there I start to describe. Him the problem and he wrote and sent to Garrett.
Then he told to take the detector back home with me until he have an information from Garrett techs, he told me that most probably they will ask us to do a few more steps, and most probably if machine is still bad they will send a new one to him and I will just go there again for the exchange.
He also volunteer to give me my ex ace350 back for the days.

I told him that I have tried everything and that is worthless to wait but I will respect his decision.

The only thing I didn't try is to replace the new batteries came with the detector and to do the army trick that we use to leave the radios in the sun when they were noisy and believe me this it was working some times.

Actually now I left the MD in the car boot off the garage.

Problems with a VLF detector in salt water/ wet salt sand? Go figure.

The at pro is disassembled, packed and ready for the returning trip.
The machine is 100% faulty and I wonder if they test them before selling them.

3 days now and still waiting for directions,
I will wait until tomorrow and if no response from the distributor I will pack and ship the whole package to GARRETT my self.

I am curious! Did you try it on regular soil or not?

I recently returned from a beach trip(MB) and at certain points had to manually GB to 0 and most of the time to no more than 15. I also had to drop my sensitivity to no more than 3 bars.

I have test it on regular soil and its working fine as long it don't have to drop the GB# below 60.

I could be wrong but I really do not think the unit is faulty. The AT-Pro really does not like saltwater. Also, remember there is a big difference between the ACE 350 and AT-PRO...to start with Operating Frequency. ACE 350 operates at 8.25kHz. AT-PRO operates at 15kHz. That much of a difference in operating frequency along will make the two machines act differently. Also, the AT-PRO is a much Hotter (more sensitive) machine.

so as an exclusively beach hunter the whole upgrade was a fiasco and a mistake of mine and i should go back to re-claim my ACE350 that it was working far way better than the ATP on dry and wet sand.
With all my respect you have to be wrong or they have to ban the sale of the ATP in the half European countries.

for non north american customers the service center is somewhere in Germany but they provide no email or phone#

call Garretts 1-800 number and talk to a technician

Why is it people are having issues with their detectors at wet salt sand beachesa nd in salt water after all that has been posted about thiese concerns? Why not contact Garrett and get a response from the Enigeering Department like I did? They do tell the facts. Why deny the answer? I don't understand it. The machine can be adjusted to quiet it down in a wet salt environment, sacrificing perhaps some primary targets. Know your machine takes on a new meaning, doesn't it? A noisy single frequency VLF detector in wet salt sand salt water? Go fiigure.

My dear friend:
as you wrote" The machine can be adjusted to quiet it down in a wet salt environment, sacrificing perhaps some primary targets" mine it can get quiet at all because there is no way to do correct ground balance in any number. and as you wrote" A noisy single frequency VLF detector in wet salt sand salt water? Go fiigure."also my ACE350 was a single frequency but i could dry and wet beach hunting with a lot of success.
And unfortunately i have to say that Garrett doesn't provide the same amount of attention and the high quality customer service to international buyers as he does to American buyers, and i have discovered this in the hard way.

I spoke to a tech at Garrett about the faulting and erratic signals. He highly recommended the the cover be removed from the coil, that if a piece of sand gets caught in between them it will create this affect..
Also to check all the connections to make sure they are tight. Well in doing so I found that the coil connection was not seated properly and reconnected it. haven't had a chance to get to the beach yet but feel this may have fixed my problem. Hoping the weather clears up so I can get to the beach and check this. Will keep you posted on what happens.

Cheers,
I also called GARRETT on Friday explain them the problem and they told me to send the whole MD to Germany ( for non North American customers the international service center is located in Germany)
Garrett will inform the Germans and I will send the ATP to them for repair.

finally my AT PRO is on the way to international service center for repair!
