Minelab just released the X-Terra 70

sell your 50 for 425.00 I read where you are going to be thru with ML if they come out with the 70 and you would sell your 50 for 425. I am interested... thanks

New products and innovations come out all the time. But when I went to the dealer to buy my new bass boat, I didn't say, "Let's see what Ranger has new this year". I already knew, well in advance. Most products are advertised, at least in the U.S., long before they hit the market. It was poor marketing on Minelab's part, no two ways around it. When Coke or Pepsi advertises a new product, it's sometimes not on the shelves for weeks, and not because it's sold out. It's just not available yet. That builds anticipation. Would've done the same for Minelab, and not gotten people mad. Would they have lost a few X-50 sales? Maybe, but many probably would have weighed the differences between the two machines, and still elected to buy the X-50. I may have myself, but I was never given the choice.

I think it was Gort, but I will take $525 for mine. Dam Iam not happy to do this but It's starting to eat at me, just got to get the 70, don't want to show up at a hunt with the oldest coon dog.

Got rid of the one I had, there is only so many variation of a one tone beep machine that the human ear can decipher, iron came up to many times.

Is the threshold only in all metal or is it in the coin and relic mode also? This is starting to sound like an Explorer or Sovereign, yum yum. Maybe the same performance at a lite weight, just maybe I will call to order one as a back up to my Explorer, the Quatrro came close but the same weight as the Explorer.

I agree! In January I purchased the Minelab X50. I like the X70 and would have purchased it instead if the option was available. Now I AM DONE WITH MINELAB I will NEVER PURCHASE another one. I FEEL RIPPED OFF! I think they should offer the X70 to anyone who purchased an X50 within 6 months of its release for the price difference. I paid $600 at a mail order store for my X50 and if the X70 was out then I would have paid the extra to get it. Now they lost another customer. I should have stayed with white's which is what I have always bought before, but no I had to try a different brand... NEVER AGAIN!

Minelab should offer the X70 box plugin to all the X50 purchasers within the last 6 months for the tradein of the X50 box plus $100.00. Not the whole unit just the box since the rest of the machine is the same.

always was the last to the treed coon. After a night of hunting the dog's shoulder would pop out of place. But Old Popeye should could fight, the only dog I ever say that would take on a coon in the water and win, sure wish I had a night camera then. Thank you Popeye for the memories.

Personally my old 12 ft lund with 9 hp. Sears motor crappie boat ain't cutting it anymore. I want to catch bass and I want to catch bass right now. Not next month or 6 months down the line. I'm going to buy the newest model now and catch me some bass and have fun. This is a detector that has additional features and functions that not everyone will want or need or are willing to spend the extra money to have. I wasn't even that interested in the X-Terra's because they had nothing more to offer than the detectors I already own. I don't rush out and buy every detector that comes out like some do. Now the X-70 has caught my attention because in my highly mineralized hotrock infested ground the expanded disc range into the ground or hotrock area along with the low 3 khz freq. and saltwater feature might provide some improvement in my ground. How much time would have been exceptable to you? 6-12-18 months? Whites did the same thing with the Prizm series as others have done as well. I remember premature announcements in the past before a machine was fully tested and perfected that caused problems for the manufacturer and arguements on the forums because of a much later final release date than announced or expected.

And the funny thing is, the X-Terra's kind of look like a Prizm. Maybe the X-Terra's are made with re-cycled Prizm housings.

Take a deep breath, count to 3 or 4 thousand, and think about it a little bit. Nobody but nobody has published a performance comparison of the X50 versus X70 as far as coins & relics, so this is all very premature.

Now I haven't used a White's in about 20 years or so, but from what I have read the MXT will kill the DFX in certain applications/soil etc. Yet the DFX is how much more money? And with how many bells & whistles?

a good comparison between the 50 and 70. I like the way the 50 hunts and will only get a 70 if it proves to be alot better, not just a little, over the 50. John

I am getting over my initial reaction and may well buy an X-Terra 70 but I think you are missing the point a little. It is not about a manufacturer not announcing the release of a new detector. It is that they introduced the 30 and the 50 as if they were the two models in a new line of detectors and then a few months later with no warning they released the third and best of the line. A lot of folks have just purchased the 50 thinking that they were buying the top of the line in the series. Minelab didn't have to come out with any of the details of the new release but they could have at least made it known that the 70 was coming in the spring or summer.
What's done is done, i'm happy I didn't buy a X-Terra 50 and may well buy a 70. I want something lightweight and I need a meter. I'm hearing about stability problems etc with the T-2 so i'm going to wait on that one. The Tejon is sensitive and light but not my cup of tea.
I'll wait to see what people are saying about the 70 in a month or so.

Whew...

J

The XT-70 looks like it has addressed all the things I wanted in the X-Terra 50! And yes, I have one on the way!!

Very possible I will be selling.

I am now reading more BS from Minelab as you read about "Detection Depth". If you buy the 30 you get standard depth, if you buy the 50 you get enhanced depth but if you buy the 70 you get maxamized depth. Whats with that? Seems like they are really pulling out all the stops now... Many may disagree but it seems like the old snake oil salesmen. I will admit my 50 is a good detector. It is just the whole way they are merchandising now.

The X-30 is less sensitive than the X-50. Pick any point from 0% to 100% sensitivity and the 30 will not go as deep as the 50 will . . . any of you that have compared the two will agree with that point. So, Minelab calls the two values STANDARD and ENHANCED detection depth . . . . . would DEEP and DEEPER have been better choices????

The X-70 has two points which the development team lumped together to come up with the term MAXIMIZED. Well, forgetting about what it is called, let's look at what it means . . . The X-70 will NOT go as much deeper than the X-50 as the X-50 does compared to the X-30. It will go deeper but comparing the two the difference is not the great as the difference between the X-30 & X-50. But the engineers also expanded the sensitivity range from 20 on the X-50 to 30 on the X-70. What this does is to provide a more precise adjustment capability of the sensitivity control. On the X-50, if you falsed at say "17" and did not at say "16", the ideal setting for maximum depth would be somewhere between the two values. By expanding on the range, you have more "stops" to find the optimum setting for the specific area you are hunting. So, between a bit more power being available and a more precise way to adjust it, Minelab's engineer's called it MAXIMIZED. Would "EVEN DEEPER AND MORE PRECISELY ADJUSTABLE" been less misleading?

Looking forward to the first reports of the X-70's performance in the field to see how the features are received regardless of what they are called. Come on, some of the names manufacturers give to various features leave my head spinning . . . . heck though, it's their detector, they can call the features what they want.

the 3khz.coil would also enhance the depth in bad ground along with the expanded sensitivity to make the Maximized term apropriate I suppose.
