Sven,
Parts are on order! Thanks for the motivation!

You will pleasantly be suprised when you remove the control box off the arm rest. There is already a large hole pre drilled in the shaft for dropping in a toggle switch. You just have to drill the hole below.

LOL!!!

Gave you the credit in my How-To:

Once I saw your posting, decided to give it a go. Ever since I modd'd my first Minelab Sov Elite, Musketeer and Tesoro Silver Sabre U-max years ago, decided I like tinkering with detectors. Even thinking about building one.....like I don't have enough projects to work on....

By the way, I picked up a Sterling a month ago. It's a beauty, and it seems like it was tuned to the max. It gives the Cibola a run for the money. I am making a special headset for it.....http://home.earthlink.net/~puddlepirate/id13.html

If you have any other cool mods you would like to share, I have webspace.

You folks with knowledge of electronics amaze me.
If I can get the Christmas lights hung from my gutters I feel like I acomplished an electronic marvel, regardless if any of the bulbs even light up.

...Good work man. Me, I'da just gotten the Vaquero, but hey - whatever floats your boat.

Nice website you've got set up Sven Thats probably nore complicated than detector modding Ha-Ha..

Youre right about the internal pot dont worry about trying to unsolder the pot just grab it with some needle nose pliers and she pops right out.

I've done about five of those now and you can actual get her done pretty quick and dont have to take the knobs and switch's off just open her up pull the pot off the board slide the 2 wires in and solder from the back and clip the pinpoint wires and take a 1/8 bit and use your hand to drill a hole in the bottom of the housing a few turns back and forth and the bit will pop right through the housing no need to use a drill and risk damage inside...

As for the Sterling 6DD Dave at Dixie had some last year in stock you might want to try him..

And to be honest that elliptical coil was concentric 8x9 I think but not for sure..Anyway it was awfu lin this Georgia dirt falsed like crazy and the target response was less than to be desired..

The white DD super search that comes on the sterling replaced the elliptical concentric that came on early sterlings because of performance issues.

In my opinion the Sterling/tribune/Musketeer which were all the same detector just different decals and color were deeper with the 8 DD coil than the new musketeers xs and advantage. It because of the excellent 8 DD coil design which was made buy Deteknetics for minelab . they also made the 8 Inch DD for the sovereign and sovereign xs which were far superior to the later sovereign offerings..

Good job on the website again.. I've got some mod's I've done I might share with you over there when I get a chance..

I'm hyped up right now anticipating the release of the 5 DD coil for the T-2!!!

Cant wait..

Hello Sven,

Do you have any experience using the 12x10 widescan coil in combination with this Cibola mod.?

I really like this mod. and I'm very curious to know what this coil would do.

Take a look at my mod . . .

Sorry no, just have the stock coil 9x8 and a 5.75. I have been running the 5.75" at the school ground, nothing is really more than 4-5" deep and the 5.75 inch coil goes just about as deep as the 9x8.

If you can try a wide scan 12x10, report back with your results.

Hopefully within the next couple weeks, I'll get out into the woods with the 9x8 and see how it works. I think my back will handle a few hours.
I have always liked the wide scan coils on my other detectors........

I had the large widescan coil and didn't like the extra weight. It wasn't worth carrying the extra weight for the added depth.

I have the 12 x 10 widescan too and with an un-modified Cibola it was hard to tell any difference in depth.

It covers a lot of ground but I also find it nose heavy so don't use it much. It is not quite as accurate pin pointing as the standard coil or 5.75 concentric but is still not bad. It pin points at the toe or heel where the two D's meet.

When the ground freezes hard, I hope to find time around the family activities to get the mod done and to do some testing on balancing to off-set the nose heavy coil set ups. When I get to that point I will post.

Made this mod to my Cibola and it works just fine! Many thanks!:wiggle:
Interesting, is it possible to do this modification on Garrett ACE detectors?
I put a volume control to my friends ACE250 and noticed, that there is some trimmers inside.

Will need to identify what the trimmers do. Ask on the garrett and modifictions forums to see if anyone knows what each trimmer does.

Is it possible to put a 10 turn pot on the V?

its what everyone is putting on the ciablo,i already retuned the interior pot on my machine, and it goes fairly deeper ..
now i just have to use the 5.75 inch coil, the stock coil 9.5 over laps hits to much in junky areas

The guy who wrote that pdf file is the same guy who originally started this thread way back in 2008.

my old whites 6000 d.i.pro had a coarse and fine tune control,10 turns will give you the ability to fine tune the GB on the ciablo, after changing the internal
gb im sold on a 10 turn system, ill post more when its done :)
