I think you need to expand your horizons on places to hunt. Think outside the box. Everyone where I live is a Civil War junkie. Thats' all they look for, bullets, buttons, etc. Good for them, they go right over coins. I like to go just beyond where they look, like all these old churches and old schoolyards. Coin Central. I go bust every once and a while. Then I just go to a local tot lot, and all the clad I need is there. Some days its like silver dimes and quarters are coming from every swing. Then I go to what looks like it is a "Prime" spot, and nothing. Or finding a 2006 penny in a churchyard dated 1800's. I am new to the hobby, second year. But I LOVE IT. After I got hurt in the Army and they said I needed to get some excersize, that is when this craze all started.
Alot of it has to do on where you are located on the planet also. I grew up in Wisconsin, too bad it was not really colonized and made a state until 1848. Then I moved to Georgia. 1776. It had a lot more time for people to make little towns, thus, dropping more change. I think that the longer people are around a certain area, the higher the chances of finding better coins. I have yet to find any Barber anything. No halfs, no silver dollars, no Barber dimes, quarters, nothing. All stuff I am hoping to find. I have found a tonne of 60's era silver. Dimes especially.
Its become an addiction really. My detector goes everywhere with me, If I have some extra time, and I see a good spot, you know what I will be doing.
What you need is a crazy find, something to sit you back and say Da@#. It will re-ignite your passion. A bad day of detecting, is still better then a good day at work!
