Just a thought....... right ? wrong ? Decision has been made.

Took my new detector out this afternoon after getting home..back to the same area I have been using the different detectors.

Looks like I made the right choice ..................Pictures posted..............found some good stuff, and not so good stuff..but I really had fun.........

I felt like I knew what I was doing...............You be the judge.

Yep, looks like you knew what you were doing for sure. Great decision on your part.

all were in an area I know that I have been over in the last two weeks...........today they rang out loud and clear.........two buffalo nickles too..one was against the greenest looking indian the other 2 feet away..all Indians within three feet of each other.....Now I can't wait to get out and find more...........

I think you need to expand your horizons on places to hunt. Think outside the box. Everyone where I live is a Civil War junkie. Thats' all they look for, bullets, buttons, etc. Good for them, they go right over coins. I like to go just beyond where they look, like all these old churches and old schoolyards. Coin Central. I go bust every once and a while. Then I just go to a local tot lot, and all the clad I need is there. Some days its like silver dimes and quarters are coming from every swing. Then I go to what looks like it is a "Prime" spot, and nothing. Or finding a 2006 penny in a churchyard dated 1800's. I am new to the hobby, second year. But I LOVE IT. After I got hurt in the Army and they said I needed to get some excersize, that is when this craze all started.

Alot of it has to do on where you are located on the planet also. I grew up in Wisconsin, too bad it was not really colonized and made a state until 1848. Then I moved to Georgia. 1776. It had a lot more time for people to make little towns, thus, dropping more change. I think that the longer people are around a certain area, the higher the chances of finding better coins. I have yet to find any Barber anything. No halfs, no silver dollars, no Barber dimes, quarters, nothing. All stuff I am hoping to find. I have found a tonne of 60's era silver. Dimes especially.

Its become an addiction really. My detector goes everywhere with me, If I have some extra time, and I see a good spot, you know what I will be doing.
What you need is a crazy find, something to sit you back and say Da@#. It will re-ignite your passion. A bad day of detecting, is still better then a good day at work!:detecting:

with your comment "I really had fun........." Congrats on enjoying the hunt. That, my friend, is truly what it is "all about". Finding a few coins is just icing on that cake! Sweet icing. But just icing, none the less. JMHO HH Randy

Hey Elton congrats on the new detector! Your first hunt with it was a fantastic day out for sure! IMHO I think you did the right thing! You gotta enjoy the hobby or it is no longer a hobby. Havinf fun while you are out is very important. Heck if all I find is clad I am happy.

Get out and have fun, the good stuff will be there, Beale.

Hey Jack, I saw that little bit of drool when you were looking at the Vision in Longview...........or was that old age creeping up on you?............. It was great meeting you Jack.

Elton, congratulations on the great finds and peace of mind of detecting for the fun of it, and not the just the 'finds' of it. Welcome home.

I agree the right equipment for the hunter. My favorite metal detector may not work for another person.I never could mix a fast sweep unit and then go to a slower scan detector. My problem too may detectors a jack of all trades and a master of none.No pun intended Jackintexas.Sometimes though we put to much pressure on ourselves to make the best finds.(Hunters ED)No body will make a post about it but there are hunters who fudge their finds and its a big inside joke.Anyway I have confidence you'll figure everything out. Thanks Ron

Thanks for the kind words. I have always felt you were one of our most integral detectorists.

If you will indulge me a moment I want to answer a question I was asked in a personal Pm

What makes me tick for detecting ??. Pretty simple question, not such a simple answer I found after much thought.

What makes me tick is a good spot for detecting. Having a machine that I have total confidence in. Enjoying what I am doing and finding. Could be pennies, Silver, even some junk. It's all about the hobby for me..I lost that sight for a couple of years..Wanted to compete with all the big finders. Tried every machine I could.

When all along I had the machines I liked and could use..I found I liked a machine that Ground Balanced at the push of a button. I liked a machine that tracked the ground..No stopping, no bobbing up and down..No wondering if my machine was GB'd, or was out and I lost depth..I like seeing the reference number with an icon next to it. I like having different coils..5" 8" 10" you name it.. I like having a machine that works the same no matter where I take it...sometimes little differences, but a small adjustment fixes the problem..I like knowing what to do..........which adjustments to make. I like pushing a trigger and mostly getting an accurate depth reading on a coin.I like a machine that has good targets sound good, bad targets sound bad...I am not fond of digging iron. My machine is very good in iron..Very few iron targets are identified as good targets. I really like that. Yet if I want," a little scroll down". and I can adjust and dig every target in the ground..Since I switched back I like detecting again.........SO.now every one knows what makes me tick for metal detecting...Not to much, or if any difference from all of you. WE all have to decide what we like, and don't like and take it from there........It's a great hobby. I also Like this forum.A great place to meet and share techniques.Where your not judged, but encouraged to do your own style of detecting with the machine you choose and like best..Thank you all for that.........and thanks for reading..
