You missed my post below............

Well Mr. Elton I just think that is the most sensible thing I have heard any of the great people on here say in a long time. It just totally makes a ton of sense! It's about enjoying it. To me it's like being one with nature, air, sun (sometimes rain) sometimes cold, breezes, mountains, plains, old building just enjoying it all with a tiny little hope of finding something good but if not.........it was still a wonderful day esp if you have a friend to share it with.

HOWEVER, I still want to know which detector you're going back to lol. Not that it matters at all. I'd just like to know what makes Mr. Elton comfortable.

I think you must be a very wise man!!! This decision says lots about you that has nothing to do with metal detecting. God Bless!!

I DEFINITELY know. I love the BH tracker series about 10 years ago and I even offered to write an article on them and the dumb representative said for me to write an article for him and he would give me CREDIT. I was miffed-so miffed I completely forgot how I was enjoying this detector. To make a long story short, a couple of days ago, I found a Walmart brand cheapo remake of the Tracker that I had apart and the memories flooded. I put it together but I did add a 4" coil instead of the "cheapo" coil from the Tracker I used to have. I went out to 2 schools I had hunted with 3 very good brands and this was the result:

I hope that you don't find the old axiom "That you can't go home" to be true, for home was not just a place, but a time also.

Good Hunting

Hey Elton: A few months ago I was hunting with a friend who was using my old faithful detector. He asked to try my new super, duper latest detector I had gotten. I used his (which I hunted with for 12 years). Using his I said please don't come and get your detector. I knew then I was home. I now own 12 detectors, have tried about all the later models thinking technology must have improved.I am going back to my old faithful. Just thought I let you know......Jack

I have the most fun and feel the most rewarded when I approach a hunt with the single purpose of better understanding what my machine is telling me. I am at the level of learning that I am trying to decipher what a weak one way signal is and if it's iron or worth the dig. Even if I dig only two targets, and I think I know what the machine is saying, I have as much fun as when I stumble onto a piece of silver. Jim

I usually pick up my xterra 70 when I head out these days. It sits beside my xlt spectrum on my floor. After reading eltons nostalgic post on returning to the fun part of the hobby I picked her up today and hunted a couple hours. Sure felt nice holding her again and she didnt let me down. With the 5.3 bullseye she was hot!!! found two quarters and one is a 1984 d. I think its silver. Didnt they change in 85 to the clad type quarter? swished around where some old bleachers use to set and picked up a cheap costume ring full of green rhinestones also found a old gm trunk key like they used when cars came with two keys one for the switch and one for the trunk. was a fun couple of hours tho with all the familiar tones and watching the signagraph and vdi numbers like it was back then.

Oh hate to say this 1964 was last year of Silver quarters

The main reason I stopped looking for coins in 1989 was by then I was finding 90+% clad coins compared to silver. When I started in 1968 you found 90+% silver with very little clad. Just wasn't any fun finding the clad unless there was a lot of it. Looked around the lakes for jewelry and after awhile less and less jewelry was being found. Just gave it all up in '89, just wasn't fun anymore. For example, in 1974 looked at a swimming area that I was probably the first to look in the water and in about a 8 hour period found 33 rings. 11 gold (2 diamond - one a 1/2 carat engagement ring and the other had 15 smaller diamonds), 11 silver rings and 11 junk rings. This took years for people to lose all this jewelry. By then, '89, seems like everybody and their dogs had a metal detector. Today, I just can't see buying a $1000 to $1500 detector. Just my view.

Basic tector technology hasn't advanced that much. All they've done is add more fancy bells and whistles. The detectors I have now don't find anymore or any better than detectors I owned 20-25 years ago. In fact I wish I still had several of them.
