Is there anyone who detects that has not found a Silver coin ???

Elton i thought you were up to something I am OK with the silver but no gold coins yet HAHA Had to try
Seriously very good of you .I found just 2 silver in hard hunted parks last year the rest at houses.
Also notching out zinc Penny's at depth will knock out the Indians to HH Mike

This is the last silver I found.

I unearthed my first silver coin some 38 year's ago now and have recovered untold numbers since, I still get a thrill every time I do it yet today. For a coinshooter, there is just nothing quite like seeing the glint of silver in the dirt. For those of you still seeking your first silver coin, hunt spots that have the potiential for such and it will simply be a matter of time. Good luck everyone and GOOD ONE ELTON. HH jim tn

That is very nice of you Elton, I can't say Ive found ALOT of silver, but other than a standing Liberty quarter, all my silver has been old. Mainly barber dimes. No mercs or rosies, which I find weird. I have been detecting since 2000 and mainly detect old home sites and cellar holes. Just find enough to keep my interest up. I do notice it ID's a little different than clad, but not THAT much. Dimes still ID as dimes. Gold is what I'm waiting for!

Thanks for this topic Elton.I was beginning to think I was the only one not finding silver coins.Sometimes I log on here and other sights and it seems like everybody and there brother are loading up on Silver coins. It's like walking into a casino and it seems like everyone is winning except you. After reading allot of the other replies on the thread I now know I'm not alone. It tells me if I want silver then get out of the Tot-Lots and start doing some research.asking permission to hunt older home's.etc.
If you think about it ,it's been 44 years since silver was put into our coinage "that's a long time" so it's just not going to be popping up every day, week ,month or even year.I don't feel so discouraged about now.Just my thoughts

Elton:
I got my first detector in 1979. Did not get a lot of use out of it and only managed to find a little over a dollar total during several trips to the beach. Possibly some of it was silver at that point. I don't remember when clad started to appear. I recently found a childs ring that might be silver, I can't make out the markings inside. I eyeballed a piece of marked sterling jewelry outside a local laundromat about a year or so ago, but that's not a detector find so it does not really count.

EL I think that is awesome what you are doing. What a wonderful way to share what you have learned with others. YOU are a Treasure!!! :)

Please Pm me with your forum name, Real name, and your address. I am going to send you a Silver Mercury Dime...and A Indian Head/Buffalo Nickle.
They also read different on most machines. Silver has a distinct sound..and usually read a little higher than clad...Indian Nickles usually read lower than standard Jefferson Nickle

Thanks for picking my name for the winner! But please re draw another name to replace mine. Someone more deserving! THANKS! The info on detecting I get here on this Forum is reward enough!

What ya did was interesting.
For folks who haven't yet dug a silver coin, I hope not a one gives up.
Digging silver coins was common years ago, it was more common in the pockets.
Nowadays a silver coin deserves cracking a smile - years ago it was another coin in the pouch I didn't think of much.
I'll dig every penny also, and any wheat is a good sign. Silver generally comes up not so dark like clad, now I focus when a hint of silver shows.
And a buff, I look forward to each. I still think they are neat.
Tokens are a nice bonus.
Gold coin - I'm climbing near 30 years at this and still haven't found one yet.
But keeping at it and having a good time sure counts.
Nowadays the newer tabs in beautiful anodized color finish - adds color to the pouch among the rusted junk. I even look at them, different colors and shapes. Have to enjoy something if no silver shows that day.

Icehouse name should have been on here..sorry missed it
