I have run out of detectors :sadwalk:

Mike,
Not to get off the subject but, would you happen to have a link to that 1000 yard shot where the ear muffs got knocked off? I am also an avid shooter and sporting clays guy. Thanks

John

I had one Garrett in my 36 years of detecting.

Garrett Detectors have always had some kind of a crazy gimmick. I remember back in the early seventies they had a machine they claimed could pick up one dollar bills. They actually had a display of a Garrett detector at the NTHS in 1972, with a turning table and every time the dollar bill went under the coil the unit would respond. Then they came out with the talking metal detectors, that alone would steer me away. Now an imaging detector?

Hi Elton,
Yeah, I'm focusing on getting a Spectra V3. The more I examine it, the more I like the complete customization aspect. I could quite literally create my own detector. Much better than the DFX. As an inland gold jewelry hunter, picture 22kHz single frequency, normalization turned off increasing the lower conductive spread, with customized tone segments, customized icons, all with the rest of the controls and with plenty of accessory coils. Pretty awesome in my mind. Hope to have one by May. Maybe sooner if I talk myself into selling others.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Please keep us posted............I for one will be very interested in your thoughts on the V3.

You should look for new hunting grounds even if it means travel...Sometimes new places does the trick to invigorate your enthusiasm...
Basically having tried a bunch know just what you are talking about...Perhaps its not the forest but the trees kind of analogy...

Did you see this the otehr day: http://www.wilsonelectronics.info/products.htm

Looks interesting to me and since they are handmade you might even be able to have it tweaked a little for your type hunting or ground.

You'll like the V3. It is a chameleon.

Less fortunate??? It's funny how people who take risks, spend years working, paying their dues are considered more fortunate...

It's funny how Garretts sems to have the reputation of being a lesser detector that is overpriced. I mean their top of the line machines. The ACE 250 seems to have a great reputation and I just bought one of their pinpointers. it interferes with my V3, haven't tried it with the E-TRAC but it is a decent pinpointer.

Mike, I totally understand. I am the same way. I like detectors as much as I like detecting. I like learning about them. I like figuring out which one will work best at which site. Which one will find which targets best AND... I love to hunt the same site with different machines.

You will love the V3. I make more finds with the E-TRAC, faster and more consistantly but the V3 is fun to tweak and learn... and it also makes good finds. I don't care for the concentric coils on it. I use the D2 and the 4x6 shooter.

Anyway, if just making the most finds possible (and good finds that other machines miss) is your goal, there is nothing that compares with the E-TRAC. If you like playing with a detector and making good finds the V3 is your machine. The V3 is the most seductive machine I have ever used. It is plain sexy.

BTW... I am glad you are "fortunate" (read hard working over a sustained period of time... probably a risk taker and educamated) ... I get really impatient with the "less fortunate crap". I've been poor and i've been comfortable, never been rich but i've always been happy and i've always had health insurance... even when I didn't have a car or food....

Sorry for the rant...

Got both coils 9" & 7". What is really interesting, you can just set it to quarter and not pickup aluminum cans. Also a great coin hunter and goes deep with real auto ground balance.

Could also be I just need more time out. Been real limited lately. But new sites always start the mouth to watering.

Elton, I'm taking a side trip with another DFX while I waiting on the rest of the cash for the V3. Always liked it and I want to use more of the all metal capabilites than I did before. The missus would rather I do something else with my fun money so I think its safer to bank it in a detector I can get it back out of easily.
