I have run out of detectors :sadwalk:

Jabbo,
I've had 4 different Cortes units. I love looking at them but the lack of tone id always makes me part with them.

Mike, wow, 4 Cortes's? I have 2 Tesoros, a Cortes and a Golden. Here's how I see it. With the Cortes, gotta glance at the meter for each target. But the 9 bars along with 95 numbers on the Cortes give me a more accurate target ID than the Goldens 4 tones. 95 numbers is a lot, that makes them quite sensitive so they jump around easily. Each of the 9 bars covers more of a wider range and so are the bars are much more stable than the numbers. I know you know all of this but I spelled it out for others who may want to know a little about the Cortes.

How come you don't have any Garretts? I guess it all comes to the place where you are hunting. If a place is old and virgin it must be a good place to hunt and I bet any cheap, old detector will find incredible things in a place like this. Which one do you think is the best for you of all the ones you have tried?

I just don't find the Garretts appealing. My ground doesn't support them, I don't like the ergonomics, and the belltone gets to be a bit much. You are right. Any ol metal detector will find good stuff in the right locations. But it is alot more fun when you are using one that really clicks with you. That is what I do. I look for detectors that really click with me. The best one by far has been the Fisher F5. The only thing that would make it better would be if it was in a Omega 8000 housing. I'll start another thread on the F5 when I get time.

get reacquainted with some old ones. Try some new ones..and take it from there Mike...

I like you just haven't seen anything I want to rush out and buy...

Last few years I been working my down to less and less. I still get newer ones but been weeding out others. Will eventually want to weed things down to 4 to 5, maybe 6 max. I'm changing my ways where I'll do with less numbers. I have the same with all my other hobbies. I been working at it and getting better at dealing with it. I must have let loose 10 or so detectors in the last couple years, and I'll admit, I wished I would have kept a couple of them. Almost like missing a couple ol friends

Whites Vision
F-75
Explorer-II
Tejon
Cibola
Cortes
Silver uMax
Compadre
Bandido-II
Ace 250
GoldMaster-3
GoldMaster 4B
Eureka

Try a minelab sovereign GT that will give you something to chew on for a few months, must be the best tone ID machine ever built.
(One of my first machines was the golden umax, very under estimated, i always regret selling it)

I've had a Sovereign GT, Kered. It is a nice machine but it is not the best tone id machine ever. In fact the tone id feature is so bad it needs a meter. There is just not enough spread to the tones, even if you open it up and adjust them. Now put a meter on it and it is a very good discriminator on low conductive targets. But staring a meter is no fun for a tone id hunter.

Ditto - what "clicks" works best. Lately, it is a Fisher F70 and a Whites XLT. I've finally gotten my own arsenal down to:

Tesoro Golden
Tesoro Tiger Shark

Garrett 1350.................................................... w/ Super Sniper coil

Whites XLT ..................................................... w/ 8", 6" and 4.5" coils
Whites Classic ID w/ Crabtree mods........... w/ same

Fisher F70

I'm selling and saving for an F75 LTD for next year. I sold my Fisher 1236X2 today, towards that end.

Perhaps you have already posted your views of the Omega somehwere already. If so, could you please throw me a link?
Thanks in advance.

I was going to suggest that you just go whole hog and buy that uber expensive ground-penetrating radar equipment --- until I saw this post.:)

Well at your stance in the metal detecting game, you might consider a challenge would be a worthy thing for you to engage in. Watch for yard sales until you can find one of those little Radio Shack detectors that kids used to get for Christmas. Next go out in the desert and look for nuggets and meteors, and see what fortune you can accumulate in a year's time. Be sure you take a really pretty girl with you so your nights won't be as boring as you days. What'cha think? Good idea? Keep us all posted. :drinking:

It is a sad day! I have money to spend on another metal detector and I can't find one that has any attraction for me. I can't even find one I've owned before that I want to repeat again.

Been struggling with this all weekend. I did order a Tek Alpha 2000 last week because it caught my eye but other than that I just can't find any enthusiasm for any of the others.

Am I experiencing beeper burnout? Will this pass or is my malaise permanent?

:help:

Mike

Mike no need to push yourself into another detector, why not spend your money on a mountain bike or kayak/canoe, something to get you into spots you otherwise might not be able to get to, so you have some new spots to hunt:thumbup:

I would hope your predicament is permanent so you spend more time with the detectors youve got, they all take a good bit of hunting to learn properly.
any way you go, good luck and enjoy!

Hi Cliff.
I love swinging the Omega. It is a very light and balance unit that is a joy to swing. Its also a feature laden unit, all of which are useful. But....I'm all about tone id first and last and the F5 has spoiled my ear. I normally run the 4 tone mode and the Omega doens't have the same audio strength in the high tone that I'm used to from runing the F5 with high positive threshold settings. But running the two tone mode works very well for my ear. Its got a lot of power available, swings the 11" DD very well and the tracking feature works. I do it a disservice by not using it more.

Hi David,
You know, I do look at the GTP1350 every now and then.
Maybe someday I'll go ahead and take the plunge.
Good luck with your 75 LTD purchase.

I could toss out a machine recommendation, but whatever it is, I'm sure you've tried it or considered it.

What about this: Make your own.
It could be fun researching the components and putting it all together. You have the know-how about the electronics component and what they do, so go for it. Make your own dream machine (I'd buy one)!

time to enjoy what you have are you a j leno of detectors!

What type of hunting are you into?
How do you meld detecting into other hobbies and desires?
Have you learned your machines inside and out?
Have you set achivement goals?
Are you just burned out?

Is it time for a new hobby?

Maybe it is time to walk away for a while or push into another aspect of MDing!!

Give long range shooting a try. Those 1000 yard guys spend a ton on equipment and supplies. There is a LOT involved in shooting a .308 that distance and a lot of education involved.

Are you an author? Write a book about the hobby and the benifits involved.
Do some charity work, teach some poor kids to hunt. Get involved with search and rescue or the local police maybe they can use a crack metal hunter. Help some old cemetary to locate lost grave sites.

Kiss your wife or go find yourself a lady friend to spend time with.
Drink a beer or eat some apple pie.

Enjoy life, no desire to MD ain't the end of the world.

Good Luck
Jeff
