How many COMPADRES ??

I have 1 Compadre among several detectors. I really like it. Fun, simplistic, and it just works.
It has the 5.75 coil. I'm just beginning to wonder if I should add the new Compadre with the 8" coil, and wonder how much difference it would make.

V3i, F-75, Explorer-II, 6000 di Pro series 2, Ace 250.. and in the Tesoro line, Compadre, Silver, Cibola, Vaquero, Tejon, Bandido-II, Cortes. Do I need another Tesoro? Compadre?

It is a true 180 Expanded Discrimination unit which means it accepts all metal up and down the range...most Tesoros are not and that Silver is 120 ED.

Can you explain what this means in layman's terms? I hope I'm not messing up this thread by asking this. Maybe I should post the question as its own thread.
Maybe I can help you on that.. If you take a protractor and lay it down so you can see all the numbers. 0 through 180 ... Your disc knob on the COMPADRE will turn all the way down to the 0... This is your all metal. I mean anything... Now on your other tesoros and other brands you have a 120 disc...Now you can not turn it down all the way to all metal like the compadre.. Now I think I am getting mixed up. Something like that.. The compadre is a true all metal. I hope someone else will jump in here and help me out. I know what I want to say, It just don't come out right.... KEN

Thanks, Ken. That makes sense. I searched the forums (which I should have done in the first place) and found some good Monte posts and am reading them now.

I have the 8" coil. I did some air tests yesterday to compare to my Vaquero. It really reinforced how lame air tests can be. I was getting about 5" on the Compadre on most coins, then today, my 7 year old son was using it and got a good signal. I helped him dig a penny that was a measured 7" deep (one of my diggers has an inch scale on it so it's easy to measure). I found that the Compadre air tests were within an inch of the Vaquero, when the Vaquero was not super-tuned. With the Vaquero super-tuned, it blew the Compadre away in depth. In reality, I dig occasional coins 8" and 9" with the Vaq non-supertuned. I think this is a better way of testing the depth capability of a detector:

Unfortunately no Tesoros were represented in this test, but I like the concept of the trench test. Very clever. Wonder how the wife would react to me digging a trench in the yard? :)

Put me on the list of proud Compadre owners. My very first detector was a Compadre with a 5.75 coil.

My best find is STILL one that I found using a Compadre with the 5.75! Little suckers are hard to beat......

My son has a 5.75 one. I want one.

I am sad to report I only have one Compadre.

Just got my first one with the 5.75 coil and I must say I have used t one time cause I have only been able to go one time due to certain reasons , however I did find a silver ring first time out with it Think I would like to adjust the Sens a little on it so will try and see how it does afterwards but I will say one thing it is a coin magnet and hits really hard on nichols

I know every one loves there compadres. Monday morning I am going to take a 4 hour drive to a detector shop up in Michigan. It is called Pro Stock Detectors... I am hoping he has a Compadre with an 8" coil. I just might bring one home with me. I hope so. I really need another. That will be #4 COMPADRES. My wife is going to KILL me... KEN

I would like one, but the Silver uMax has been so good I can't justify it YET. I am thinking my kid needs one. Mine- I mean his would be the 8" model.

bought the 7" compadre a couple years ago. I take it very seriously.

NOT a toy, handle with caution. It WILL blow you away!

Again, this is not a childs sucking toy!!!

count me, er, my daughter, as an owner -- one with the 7 inch coil.

Well i didnt know it was ED180 now i want one! It wont be long so you may as well count me in.

Today I just picked up a used silver uMax. Never used one, but I am going to play with it. How does it do on small gold? KEN

I haven't really hunted small gold and have just been cherry picking for the silver coinage. It just blows my mind how well it works. I keep the disc. just past pulltab and clean up on the coins. I got wheatie at 7" with a nice clean hit. I very seldom dig trash and when I do it is usually a bent twist off bottle cap or something odd like a coat button or washer. I have mild ground here and this thing works wonders. Like most Tesoro's it excels in trash and separates the coins no problem if you slow down and overlap passes. It amazes me how I can zero in a coin in heavy trash. The only place I turn the disc down is in an area that I have slowly been cleaning up because I know there is rings there. It is a grassy area where people lay out on their blankets by the beach. I run the sensitivity high and never have problems. Only had EMI once near a main buried phone line. 5 feet either side of it and things were good. I had a DFX user come over to see what I was doing one day and ask about my detector. I took the earphones out so he could hear the audio and plucked two pennies out of pulltab and bottle-cap heaven. He was really amazed out how well it did and how simple it is. When I told him price he said that was almost impossible.

Ken, being the Tesoro guy that you are, you will like it. It is going to compliment your existing detectors well.
