Has anyone modded their cibola with GB knob?

Ok I'm not great at reading these diagram b it according to this pic I think I know why I'm so positive.
Says terminal 1 is ccw 2 is wiper and 3 is cw.
If cw is positive then I'm soldered to the wiper and cw.
I think I need to solder wire that's on 2 to terminal 1.
Here's the pic:

I think I should be on 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 3 like the pdf says...
I might just try it. Shouldnt hurt to try it.

2 on bottom 1 in middle and 3 on top

I have them wired to 2 and 3 like the pdf says

Just an added note, trimpots can be numbered in reverse than what they are normally as well.

Center leads will always be the same #

So what does that mean for my situation?
Are my wires right?

I don't think so.
Pretty bummed though.
And I checked I do need the wiper if only 2 are used.

Is it any different when you "power balance " as opposed to balancing to threshold? I don't have a cibola so I'm assuming there's a threshold.

So maybe I should just get a 3 3/4 pot and use that then?
Doesn't seem right lol.
I took my Bandido to the same exact spot and it GB about neutral in the middle. Doesn't seem right that I'm that many turns cw to balance neutral.

Noone still has their cibola that's modified to open up and look at the terminals ?

Ok gents, what if I connected the wire that's on 3 to 1 putting it through the low end first? Would that just reverse the flow and neg is possible and vice versa or would that help the issue?
I remember he wrote in the pdf that if you wired it right, cw is positive but if wrong, then it would be reversed.

Ok, one other idea here..
What if the coil is out of tune and I need to take it that positive to make up for it?
Sorry for asking so much guys.
Just bummed and a little angry about the whole thing.
Thanks for listening

Just because the knob is turned far cw does not mean it's positive, it's where that particular knob might be neutral.

so does everything else work?

10 turns going to take 5 turns to get to either end providing its in the middle.

I bought some different pots for some headphones I was making wouldn't work thought it was just my bodgie soldering turns out after I moved the wire from one end of the pot to the other it worked  3 pronged pot mono I guess? stereo has 6?? anyway has to be worth a try but check 1st and see wind that sucker

I know vain as a peacock but don't care

my point is it really wasn't fun for me making headphones although I have some new tools now but I have big hands I am a stick welder not a fiddle welder but I had some problems and I just worked it out, don't give up !! is what I am saying.

Did you measure the resistance of the trimpot where Tesoro had it set from the factory?
If you didn't destroy the pot, look on the top and see where the pointer is set.
That would have given you the clue as to where your Cibola was preset for best overall performance.
Then that would be the same value on the 10 turn pot. So there may not be anything wrong.
Double check the trimpot value, there will be a number on top, the value should match the value on the 10 turn pot.
You never know if Tesoro made some part value changes that changed the trimpot value over the years.

and that's the other thing :starwars:

how do you really know what pot is right ?? I have always wanted to fiddle with Tesoro detectors add some stuff, and I think why?? is there anything to really gain other than some self satisfaction? even if I am an expert I just made the detector worthless to anyone other than me, and my ground is fluff so it doesn't matter anyway.

I can change coils on non GB detectors no problems.

so I do hope you work it out and I am sure you will but is it really worth the headache :throw:

I know its fun to fiddle !!

and don't worry about me I am just entertaining myself got the dentist in the morning have to get one of my top front teeth pulled out now that would have been way tuff and kool at 15 but at my age not so kool and not sure I want to spend like 800 $ to get a plate when the other one is bogged up too, and you think you got problems :poke: my vanity is being tested here, is there anything else more important??
