Has anyone modded their cibola with GB knob?

Well the directions I have say that the two open holes outside of the pot are what the vaq uses for te GB pot.
Directions say just cut leads (surface mounted) then use open holes for wires to new POT.

Yeah I guess it's the same board between cibola and vaquero to save on production cost. At that point, vaquero gets external pot wired to holes, cibola gets surface mount trim pot.

Clean and tin that tip before starting the soldering.. easier to solder with the three second rule.. you don't want to heat damage any components..

I was messing with my new iron yesterday.
Tried the x-fine tip but I think it's bad. It Tins ok, but can't get it to wet at the very tip. I have other tips to try though.
Doesn't look bad.
Might have had it set too high (350C) because the solder turned gold when I tinned the tip. It's 60/40 rosin core.
Maybe the new stuff does that?

If not for changing coils I've been happy with adjusting the pot on inside. I was gonna do gb mod on compadre but unless I do interchangeable coil mod , in my soil it's really not needed. Did you get your Deleon back? I like my Deleon but I'm having a hard time not not buying into the Nokta, makro hype. Keep in mind I'm fairly new to detecting and should just spend more time learning the machines I have.

Only problem with adjusting the trim pot is its on a 3/4 turn total and only rated for 25 cycles (adjustments) before big chance of failing.
The deleon is nice. Haven't had a proper hunt since getting it back yesterday. Did notice how succeptable it is to EMI though, very sensitive when testing it upon return and the troy coil is fantastic.

I am doing the mod for 2 reasons.
1. The GB isn't set right right now and figure if I'm gonna open it to adjust the trim pot, might as well go all the way lol.
2. Changing coils.

I bought unto the hype... except it's not hype. Haven't run a racer 1 or 2 yet, but man my relic is nuts.
Wrong forum to discuss that but it's a different kind of hunting from what I do with my tesoros.

Well I'm pretty sad.
I finished the mod and had 1 hiccup but it worked out.

I have to have my pot at 9 turns (4 positive) to ground balance...
My Bandido ground balances at about half of the 3 3/4 pot on it.

Why the heck do this Bournes pot have to be so positive? I don't get it.
Everything else is working fine. Sounds off great. Set my disc knob. Everything exactly as the PDF said.
Something isn't right if I'm that far positive to GB it, right.

Please help!!

Something is not right, did you mix up wires?

Nope. I even used the same colors in the PDF. Blue and white. Everything to the T.

I thought it was weird that #2 tab was on bottom and #3 on top.
Middle tab empty
Pic is at a bad angle bottom offset tab marked 2 (blue)
Top tab marked 3 (white)

Sorry to say there is something wrong or your not ground balancing correctly as there is no threshold?

Not sure. I tried turning the threshold up and still says balanced. Turned it down and checked too.
Everything else seems to function same as before as far as threshold control, disc, switch for freq, and new switch for AM/disc.
I have no idea. Any way the terminals on the new POT are wrong and updated? Maybe it's not the same numbers as it was? I followed the directions to the letter.

I don't know how to get in touch with keith southern to ask his opinion.

Maybe I should have just left the unit alone.
Although, it functions the same as it did before the MD so i didn't lose anything.
But for having GB it's like I really dont. For what the less than a turn I have left positive, the trimmer might have been better.
Maybe someone will know what's going on, or I chalk it up as a screw up and stop messing with the internals.

your pot should have 3 terminals. one on each end and a center tap. you should one wire soldered to the center tap and the other to the upper terminal(closes to the knob)

See my picture pan4au. That's my pot soldered.

I used the exact pot in the directions.
Has anyone done this recently and conform which contacts to solder the wires to?
