Garrett AT PRO Waterproof

If Garrett designed the water proofing on the same principles as the Infinium or Sea Hunter box, there will be no problems with water leakage. Garrett got it right on those two water detectors.

I'm not a big Garrett fan (loved the Freedom Ace 2, hated the GTA1000, hated the Ace250, hated the GTI2500) but this machine looks cutting edge. I read somewhere that the bell tone is gone (or at least can be shut off). From everything I've been reading this machine has a lot of great features, being waterproof just being one of them. Could this machine bump the F5 out of it's reign as mid-priced champion?

I have a question that I don't think has been answered. I'm curious about the battery compartment. I know on the Sea Hunter it has the Screw Cap on the flat surface. Looking at the pics of the AT PRO the housing appears to be shaped like a 250 housing. Has anyone seen or does anyone know how the batteries will be changed in the AT PRO? Thanks!!

I've been thinking about this too. I'm going to take a guess. It would appear to me (remember just a guess) that the triangular battery cover is not water proof. I'll bet that when you remove the cover there is an additional waterproof battery compartment. I guess we will all have to wait and see.... I'm still waiting for Charles to send me one to field test.

I don't know what all the concern about the waterproof depth on the AT Pro is about. Garrett has one of the best CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT.s I've ever seen. Believe me they'll stand behind it to whatever the specs are said to be. I'm sure they tested this detector to at least 25' in depth before they claim the 10' mark. I hunt around 10' and am really looking forward to receiving mine. So if it leaks, I'm sure they'll repair it. They have gone way out of their way on repairs and/or replacing machines and probes that were screwed up by my mistakes. I hunt relics in fresh water rivers and it would be super to be able to ID aluminium. It drives me nuts. I don't hunt, or care about GOLD rings, so I'm not concerned with that. Hope the machine is as good as they say.

I also hope this machine is as good as They say. Will be glad to hear the field reports from someone other than (They) dealers or those working directly with Garrett. So far their is a lot of guessing and quotes from Garrett ads as to the quality of the GT Pro. I know of a few MD manufactures with great Customer Service and even longer warranty......of course, no one wants to constantly send their MD to the shop for a fix (even with 2 yr. warranty).

Check out the videos on the web, they show the battery compartment.

I watched the AT-Pro videos. I like that they were detailed, but wish they were out in the field (in real-life detecting). Is it true that the AT-International is already out???

of screw cap arrangement and said that was the battery compartment cover. Guess they must have made it like the Sea Hunter that you described. A lot of the questions that people are asking here were answered in the 5 part video.

A lot of people just wade in the lakes or water up to their necks. Those people will be able to get away with using the headphones that come with it. The people that are going to go deeper are most likely Divers so they would be the only ones to end up buying the UW headphones. I water hunt all the time but I do not Dive and I use land headphones with a waterproof connector on them on all my waterproof machines because they sound so much better than the underwater headphones. Are you sure about that. In the pix of the Garrett Land Headphones and the Garrett Waterproof Headphones and both have the same waterproof connector on them. I didn't see any pigtail on the land headphones.

there is a page there that shows the headphones that come with it and they have a waterproof connector on them. Not the standard 1/4" plug.

Can you use other land headphones other than the one with special connector??
I would have to say that you have to use the headphones with a waterproof connector.... Yes you will have to use garretts headphones with the water proof connectors on dry land..

Garrett says there will be an adapter you can buy to convert the waterproof connector to a 1/4 plug. This way you can use what you want. This is good for me as I have a wireless set up.
