Garrett AT PRO Waterproof

at_pro_page_2.jpg

this really makes my day. A few years ago when I was into the BH Tracker, I suggested to their hotline a machine similar to this one and named it the "Wader" and felt they could make a killing off such a machine at $199 with the simple 2 tone circuitry and their reply was that it wouldn't sell. I think it's a fabulous thing and it's like getting 2 detectors for the price of one.

After reading all the questions about waterproofing, I just wanted to point out that Garrett has come out with some great detectors that even the dumbest person can use! :stars:

I don't understand why some of you don't under stand waterproof to 10 feet? But this AT Pro is a dream machine i have been waiting for.

IT IS ONLY WATERPROOF , IF YOU ARE USING THE WATER PROOF HEADPHONES, I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL DROWN THEIR DETECTOR USING THE HEADPHONES THEY SUPPLY WITH IT.

I DON'T SEE HOW, WATERPROOF HEADPHONES HAVE A NUT CONNECTOR WERE AS STANDARD HEADPHONES JUST PLUG IN. I GUESS WE WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE. THANKS !

All-Terrain Versatility
The AT Pro is engineered with a waterproof housing and connectors to protect in dusty, muddy, wet and humid environments. The AT Pro can be immersed in water to a 10-foot depth (maximum) to search in and along shorelines, rivers, piers, docks or swimming holes.

NOTE: Waterproof headphones must be used if the headphones are immersed in water. Standard headphones provided with AT Pro can not be submerged.

You need Garrett underwater headphones or something similiar to start with....Keeping this in mind if you dropped in water with regular headphones GONZO or if you hunted in the rain with regular headphones imagine you would be putting it at risk of leaking..Never held one so don't have a prayer, but looks like a wading unit to be used in shallow water with a 10 foot depth Max.
Only time will tell and perhaps Garrett could chime in to give us the real answer...

The head phones that come with it have the screw in water connector. The phones them self are not waterproof just the plug.
So if you don't get them under should not be a problem. Regular headphones will not work with out a adapter.

My understanding on the headphones is that, if you use the headphones suipplied with the machine, the headphones themselves aren't waterproof, but the headphone connection to the machine is waterproof. If you are going to be sticking your head under the water, then you need to get the waterproof headphones. As regarding the waterproof qualities of the machine, anyone who has read any of Charles Garrett's book on water hunting will know that Charles knows the difference between "wateroproof" and "water resistant" or "splashproof". I think it is safe to think that Garretts would not advertise a detector (or coil, or headphones etc) as waterproof if it wasn't.

You can only use regular headsets with an adapter. The adapter will have a waterproof connection on one end and a 1/4 female on the other. So there won't be water getting into the unit with cheapie headphones.

There is NOT a 1/4 regular jack on the AT Pro. If your going to run regular phones you'll need an adapter that Garrett is going to sell. Waterproof x 1/4 female adapter. The machine itself will still be protected.

I think the reason so many are asking questions about the waterproofness of the AT Pro is that it doesn't look like the typical underwater metal detector. We tend to picture something very basic with oversized knobs and no speaker or meter. A speaker and meter are nice, but can be weak points when it comes to water damage. It's like a car with sunroof......sunroof is nice, but over time the required seals will leak. As pointed out by many in this thread, the AT Pro claims to be waterproof to 10 feet. Garrett has produced some of the best waterproof machines to date, but the AT Pro doesn't look like any of them. This diffrence is what sets this machine apart and makes it so appealing. I don't know of any official field reports, but if it lives up to its claims it will be an all purpose machine that you will not be embarrassed to take in the water or the woods.

I agree. It's not a square box with some beep dig controls. It doesn't weigh 5 pounds either. I think this is a cutting edge machine. A machine others will try to duplicate in some fashion. This is a high tech machine. If Garrett is sticking the 2 year warranty on this one you can bet it sealed up tight.
