Favourite Tesoro

I ain't a "rich guy" so when I was lookin' for a detector to have (originally as a back up to another brand) I searched for the most features for the money!
I found that in the Eldorado u-max.
I have over 3100 hours on it now, and it has been a great (MAIN) detector.
I am going to sell my whites.
Nuff said.......

'Nother vote for the Eldorado (u Max). I did some sums, and I've held onto my Eldorado longer than any other detector I've had... that tells me something.

Would never leave home without my Compadre, I also own a Lobo ST as well. just recently found a cache of 19 silver spoons as well as some other silver items on a old homestead around xmas time... HH Joe Hoo

Pantera and Toltec II are older, and by the sound of things, still going strong. Thanks Tony for reminding us that we dont have to have the "latest and greatest" to enjoy our hobby.

My wife's Toltec ll is still going strong after nearly 17 yrs. and over a thousand hours of use, we bought it new in the spring of' '94. It became too heavy for my wife after a few years, so I gladly took it over. heh, heh. The other favorite Tesoro of mine is the Tiger Shark, bought it new in spring of 2001, it too has been used over a thousand hours with no problems. I hope Tesoro gets the Tiger Shark production problems sorted out as it is a great detector for fresh water.

I love to water hunt, and by far, the best fresh water detector out there is the Tiger Shark. The Tiger Shark is my favorite of all detectors, but I was not happy with the fact that Tesoro markets it as a " Do All Detector" and flip one switch and it's ready for "Salt Water Mode" NOT TRUE! The Tiger Shark can not handle the Salt Water, period!!!

Now, for a little something speical to me, I own the 22nd detector that Tesoro ever made...thats correct, the 22nd detector off their production lines, when they first started up as Tesoro...

See for yourself...

Coil Decal, looks just as good as it did many years ago.

The Deep Search is in near mint condition, still turns on and works, but my only problem is, I don't get any depth with it now, even with new batteries, and hunting is easy soil, I can only get about 2 to 3 inches of depth on a quarter, and thats pushing it. I should send it bact to Tesoro and see what they can do with it, as far as a tune up or something....Any ideas what the problem is guys?...

Thanks for Looking,
Ned

Not to mention, today is like Christmas for me, just arrived, my newest toy....A mint condition " Tesoro Piranha " Now I just have to wait for the snow and ice to leave, or wait till March 9th, when my wife and I make our big move to Cebu,Philippines to live and enjoy our retirement...hehehehehe

Tesoro' 22nd detector? That would hve to be a museum piece....much to talk about there. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Furious,

For some odd reason, I've never read or seen any kind of intrest in old vintage detectors out there. But personaly, I always thought it was kind of neat that I own this, one of the first 25 detectors, that Tesoro Ever sold. Fact is, I'm really thinking of sending it in and seeing if they can get any depth out of it for me. Maybe it just needs a tune up or new coil. Hell, maybe they will swap out the guts and put in the guts of a newer model, but still have it work with the knobs and face in place..heheheheh now that would be a neat story and a detector that I would actually hunt with. Believe it or not, it's a very well balanced and not so heavy on the swing detector, just the way it is now.. Personaly I LOVE IT..heheheheh

Hello Ned. I used TR detectors for thousands of hours in the 70's. I learned to get six inches on a silver dime and eight to nine on a quarter/halve. In TR/disc. you need to scrub the coil while searching and have the detector tuned so that if you raise the loop even slightly it sounds off. I hope this helps. The old TR's are great because they are non-motion with perfect iron discrimination, you can find a coin inches away from large iron and touching a nail. I really wish the detector companys would make an improved computerized TR for us to play with, non-motion discrimination with perfect iron discimination. Good luck hunting, Darryl.

I think the Scorpion Gold Stinger has a T/R Disc mode on it... it may be the only model in preduction with it but i'm not sure.

I've been using Tesoros for approx ten years now, and in tht time have owned and used 8 different models...still have (and use) 5. I'm not going to go into all the stuff I've found with the Tesorosm but the main thing I've found is that they work well, they still work, and I'm still finding stuff with them. I lean towards my Eldorado (u Max) as my favourite, and it still "shines" if compared with my "other brand" detectors.

Well mine would have to be the first tesoro I ever used The Sidewinder w/ 10.5 concentric coil, when umax were called micromax instead and first came out. still same name though* but I love my tejon

When I was working in Australia on a 2 year work visa I visited a detector shop in Perth and there on the wall was,The Dingo. It was made for the Australian Market only and it was a shame it was never sold in the U.S. It would hit hard on everything, even trash. It was designed for the harsh soil conditions of Australia and Tesoro needed a machine to stay with the Minelab....That's my favorite Tesoro.

Gee I'd like to see a pic of this (Dingo ) , tried googling it but no luck , can't even find any specifications

Bobby.

Found this forum thread while doing some research on the Tesoro Dingo. Basically it is a Tesoro Lobo with some ground balance mods to make it handle Australian soil better. Here are some pics for you. Awesome machine.

cheers

saving my pennys to buy a Tesoro Lobo SuperTRAQ would be the same as the dingo i am guessing cant wait to give it a go!! :clapping:

Bandido--I think it is a 1989. It is the only 1 I have. Don't use it as much as I would like 2.

I was a Tesoro dealer for a while, and the reason I became a dealer was due to my purchasing a Silver uMax. I was SO impressed with that machine that I became a dealer. That being said, the Silver remained my favorite machine for dry land digging. Now, for water hunting, the Tiger Shark is my favorite, and I also own an Excal. But for the dry, I wouldn't trade the Silver for any other Tesoro model, and I've used many. But that's just my opinion.

That old Bandido looks great, action..almost like new, and I'll bet it works as well now as the day you bought it.

The Silver and the Tiger Shark are both good machines...I used my Tiger Shark on salt water beaches when I had it, and it performed very well for a VLF machine. The Silver seems to be a great favourite with most people, Dirt Poor.

Thanks fellas.
