Favourite Tesoro

Furious T

Active member
Hi All, I've been using Tesoro detectors (amongst others) since 2001, and even in that short time, different machines have come and gone. From what I've read on the forums, different ones are using the newer machines, while others are still using older Tesoros.

What I'm interested to know (if you are willing to share) is this: What is your favourite Tesoro machine right NOW? Is it one of the more recent models, or is it one of the older ones?

Just interested. Thanks.

Kind of hard to answer as it depends on what sort of detecting I'm doing. I'd have to say my favorite of the moment is the DeLeon. However, I still prefer to use either the Silver Sabre

The Silver

The Compadre.

Its simple, gets reasonable depth, bangs hard on small gold, and weighs next to nothing.

Honestly, its the one Tesoro I won't sell.

Thanks BB. I've been thinking about my own collection, and I think my Eldorado (u max) is still my favourite, followed closely by DeLeon....then Cibola, I guess.

Thanks joe dirt; I've now inherited what used to be my daughter's Silver u max, but I just cant bring myself to putting the Eldorado aside to use the Silver.

Thanks David; I dont have the Compadre, but the posts here suggest that it is one heck of a unit.

Sorry Smudge, called you David...just got in from mowing the grass and the sweat is fogging my vision (that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it)

Right now I'm still using my DeLeon more that the Cibola but thats mainly due to having the 5.75 coil on the Cibola and am only using it when I hit a real trashy area.

Vaquero ,Only one ive owned or used ,The only one i want..until i get the Compadre for small gold..after taxes...lol
its very sensitive and will go deeper than i want to dig now. Do have the 5.75 concentric, and hardly take it off.

Thanks fellas for the input. Sounds as if the 5.75 coil could win plenty of votes if we had a survey on coils. I have mine on my Eldorado at present.

Tejon with 5.75 widescan coil! Love my cibola but the Tejon is a blast! Small coil goes really deep for its size and is awesome in trashy areas! very flexible machine.

I've got the 5.75 concentric mounted on an extra shaft for quick changes. I've been impressed with the performance for its size and the separation in trashy areas.

I've found that the 5.75 coil is great for picking up small to medium "pocket spills". Good for detecting near concrete paths as well.

I haven't used the coil much but it has done well when there were multiple targets close to each other, I just don't know if I have the patience to use it for extended periods of time it just doesn't seem like I'm covering much ground with each sweep.

Right now only have two Tesoros.
Silver umax for my wife or as loaner
Fav at this point Eldorado umax.
I do have a 5.75" coil that can be used on either

The smaller coils certainly aren't for covering the wide open spaces, but for the more populated trashy areas (preferably with some kind of boundary so that's it's possible to keep track of where you've been).
It's interesting that the Eldorado (u max) gets a few mentions here, whereas not a lot is said of it generally, on the forum. Is it the quiet achiever? It replaced the Bandido II, as far as I remember, and from what I've heard and read, the Bandido and Bandido II were both regarded highly.

I thought there would be more mention of the Compadre, as it seems to be very popular. Same with the Silver uMax. I know there are a lot of DeLeon users out there, and that the Tejon is popular with relic seekers.

PennyFinder, can you tell us more about the Diablo uMax, age, features etc.?

Thanks, All, for your contributions.

Hi Furious, hope all is well up your way.

I'm currently running 3 Tesoros - Cibola, Silver Umax & Tejon. Nothing beats the Cibola and cleansweep for modern coinage, and lately I've been using the 10 x 12 DD at the beach with good returns.

For the old stuff, the Umax armed with the 10 x 12 concentric is also unbeatable - as long as the site is not too noisy. The Umax will always give my Etrac a run for it's money when conditions are right - very similar depth and much faster recovery. Somebody once said that the Umax/10 x 12 combo is the best kept secret in metal detecting, and away from the wet sand they're absolutely right (the Etrac is perfect on the wet sand!).

The Tejon I use the least but when I do it's with the 5.75 coil, and it's hot on the smaller silvers!

That little Silver umax with the 10X12 MAY VERY WELL BE the best kept secret in m.d.ing.----I had a dealer tell me once that the Silver umax was the most under rated detector out there.-----When I first tested it with the 10X12 coil in my test garden, I was shocked at how well it could hit my deepest targets, loud & clear.----That coil (10X12) on the Silver is just a terrific "marriage" (depth wise).---If you want target seperation, the 5.75--if you want to just "cruise" hunt & "have a ball", the 8" donut coil-----The Silver is just a really fun little detector--but then, aren't all Tesoros--at least the ones I've had are.---------Del
