Very cool Still waiting to hear from JW when they expect the Sovereign version of this coil to be in and will update you guys when I get that PM. From what I've read thus far it appears the 12x10 might be just as deep as the 13" Ultimate but the 13" Ultimate MIGHT be a tad deeper. Still waiting to hear one way or the other on that. I'd consider the 12x10 or the 12" S-12 for water hunting if the Ultimate is still hard to find for the Sovereign down the road from any sources. It might be that that coil isn't any deeper then them anyway, and even if it is that might only be the case in low mineral land or beach sites due to this coil seeing too much ground than a slightly smaller coil. As said, I found the 15x12 got less depth on a dime in my soil than the stock 10" coil or the 12x10. Just seeing too much ground I guess, but perhaps the 13" coil will still show increases in depth in my soil? Not sure yet, but I think either a 12 or 13" coil is about the limit for my soil to still see a depth increase on coin sized targets. The 12x10 might be the max I can go to for that. Yes, it's 2" longer than the stock 10" coil, but darn if I don't think the 12x10 sees less ground than my 10" Tornado. The 12x10 seems to have a less "fuzzy" signal than a conventional round DD coil (especially compared to the old 10" Explorer coils, because the 10" Tornado Sovereign coil is MUCH better to me than those), not to mention that the 12x10 has a much tighter left/right detection field...So even though it is 2" longer than the 10" Tornado it seems to ride on and see less "ground stew" then a 10" round coil. That's probably one of the reasons why it will run at higher senistivity levels in the same soil than the 10" coil, and so because of washing the target signal in less ground signal than other coils and also because of it's bigger size in the length perspective...It's getting deeper than my 10" coil. Not to mention it seems to be getting better depth just because it will run at higher sensitivity levels. Think about this...Many people love odd shaped small coils such as the 8x6 because they get excellent seperation but still get great depth. That's due to it having a 6" coil's left/right separation (if not probably better) while still getting the depth of an 8" coil. So, same deal with the 12x10. Depth at least as good if not better than a 12" coil, but separation at least as good as a 10" coil. Actually, that's a BIG understatement...Because darn if I'm wrong but I swear this coil has a tighter left/right separation than even my S-5 Sunray coil, which is 5.5" in diameter. Of course the Sunray still wins separation wise in terms of the length of the detection field, but I MIGHT be willing to bet money that the 12x10 has a tighter left/right field for better separation that way. Don't be fooled by thinking this coil is covering less ground than say a 10" coil. Remember that the detection line runs from tip to tail of the coil, so in effect you are still sweeping a 12" long patch as you hunt. It's just less "fuzzy" at the edges which doesn't really matter anyway.
