You will definatly know a high tone when you get one. As far as anything else is concerened. When I GB, sometimes the tone comes out funky sounding, like scratchy. Any one else have this problem. I dig pull tabs because your chance of getting a ring are better. If at all it registers in the higher area, I dig. 99% of the time its a coin. I have not found anything too old yet. But i have got two Sacagawea coins, a 1000$ peso thats worth .56 cents, and a TON of clad. My wife has an ACE 250, sometimes she picks up on stuff that i have walked over, which means I need to SLOOOOWWWW DOOOOOWWWN!

Leave it in advanced mode.
Just keep digging, the more times you dig, the better the chance of finding something, thats the way I look at it.

Ive had my machine for less than 2 months now and have been having great luck with it. 2 Silver halves, 3 pre 64 quarters, 4 mercs, 3 rosies, 2 indian heads, 2 gold rings, a silver thimble, toys, buckles...you name it. ive been finding it. all the hunted out parks ive been going to have been producing quite nicely. But ive also been hitting the woods in these parks, trying to think of spots where people wouldnt bother to bring their detector. one ring hit on solid high coin at 4", the other hit on foil at 3". If its a solid hit, with a good strong signal from all directions, then dig it!!
the parks I go to have so many square tab hits that I only dig the deep ones, but havnt found anything in that reading yet except...well....S-tabs. Yes you may have to G-B a few times for changes in the soil, but that only takes but a min. deep in the woods my sens is up around 5-6
to hear the deep stuff, but the deepest thing ive found was only like 6 inches, so I probably dont really need it up that high. In high trashy areas I use the preset disc, other than that i keep it at zero to hear everything. So start checking those woods!! thats where most my finds have been.
the silver thinble I found was way way up on a hill in the middle of no where. and both of my rings were also found in places where you would never expect them to be.
Good luck with those machines.
