CZ-3D

Jetman, that was the reason I suggested earlier on to use the CZ3D in salt mode.I think in this mode it identifies targets better in most parks. This unit is the same as a CZ5 in the salt mode. But I disagree with Casper the CZ5 is no CZ20 in the salt mode I used but units the CZ20 is more sensitive.

you are correct!..one can argue that if you have a cz-5,..then you don't need a cz-3d!

well unfortunately,if you had the toggle set to advanced you would have probably dug forty holes with similar results!..at least you got plenty of exercise which is a good thing too!

Just curious, are the other Fisher CZ's as sensitive to iron as the 3-D. I ran a experiment and took a large permanent magnet to a 1 square foot hole I dug on my property. I am still trying to get the iron particles off of it, it was completely covered with iron and nails. You want to talk about iron masking I have it! The CZ-3D is almost useless on my property in any mode, I cannot even ground balance it because the balance knob doesn't effect the tone at all due to the iron. The CZ-3D is the first Fisher I bought so do not have a caparison to other Fishers, and I am not brand loyal so I can take it, LOL. Still have my 1st detector which was a Compass 25 years ago and have owned 4 different brands now. Have them all except a Tektronix's I gave to my sister. Two have no discrimination IE the Compass and a Whites Surf Master, my Silver Eagle seems to handle the iron well as it doesn't continuously sound off and keys on to items, but still gets faked out occasionally. More than likely would not buy another Fisher due to a little run in I had with the new service department about my life time warranty when I wanted my unit checked out, but would really like to know how the other fishers compare.

The CZ does seem to stall out in lots of iron like most detectors. There is not one perfect metal detector. The Silver Eagle and Surf Master have some advantages but in most parks they are not in the same league with the CZ.Two detectors good in excess iron 1236X and a Sovereign which hates iron.Bottom line no detector will perform very well in a thrash dump.

I took the name Rustynail after buying the CZ (LOL) and digging all of the nails. I believe that a house or barn burnt on my property, have found melted glass and burnt brick while digging. Thanks for reply.
Dan

Certainly many ways to tell if a deep nail or not and several ways to defeat this deep digging for nail combined with a user friendly depth demon...

Hooray Jetman and Dan please tell me more. I bought my CZ new about three years ago and put it down until lately due to a personal tragedy. I have 4 acres of property which was a farm and had at one time I believe several out buildings which are not visible now. The property was fenced and cross fence with a catch pen when I purchased it. I have found everything from copper roof flashing and nails to shovels. picks, hammers, axes, and horse shoes trying to clear ground to see if anything is more valuable below. My problem is that my units gives a sharp clear good four way tone when it is near any iron. I have a test garden and I bob ground balance on a clear piece of ground, run my sensitivity below 3, volume 3 or below and then go to the garden to listen to the tones. I then start finding iron with to me identical tones. I found a pipe standing straight up recently and a old bed coil spring both giving repeatable high sharp tones, the coil gave a double beep one way and a single at ninety degrees. I also asked about a longer lower shaft on another thread and said it was because of my back which is true. But, my detector was keying on the arc supports in my Thom MCan shoes and I wanted to get the coil further away from my body. I wear tennis shoes now. I do not want everybody (Ron) thinking that I am downing their detectors, but I am downing the newly formed service department because when I called about some service the rep promptly told me after I gave him my serial number that I had no warranty. The reason I purchased a NewFisher in the first place was for the lifetime warranty and Mr. Fisher's Repetition. I have found that my unit is unbelievably sensitive to iron and think it isn't set up correctly but have been wrong before. Any help would be much appreciated.

PS. I already have Dankoscys (pardon the spelling) CD, it is where I got the longer lower shaft idea.

Huh, i dont know. I know that when i go to ground balance mine sometimes it acts funny and gives off a noise, then nothing. I think my depth button might be messed up, but so could the ground also. I know that if its not a coin, and you go over it a couple of times the CZ wont "make up its mind" on what to call it. Which in most cases = Nails are other crap. Any coins on mine beep twice, once back, once forth, and are very high pitched. You have to go over your target very slowly, you can gauge how big it is by how many times it beeps. Set your DISC to 0. You will hear more that way. Heck, I don't even use the pinpoint button. It is pretty accurate once you find a target. I plan on making a YouTube video to explain in the coming weeks.

UPDATE-----My wife called me and my cell phone was in my pocket, and as soon as it started to ring, my CZ made funny noises. This could also be a way for interference to come into play.

1. Nails on mine are a mid-tone, solid sounding.
2. Coins almost sound like nails, once you get one, (coin) you will remember that sound.
3. They are almost the same tone, coins are HIGHER!
4. Try the SALT mode, it seems like it is better at judging what the find is.
5. My needle will stay all the way to the right if it is a coin.
6. If the needle bounces all over when you go over it, keep walking.
7. Some older dimes i found bounce between the far right, and the one right next to it.
8. TO VERIFY WHAT IT IS, STAY OVER THE TARGET A SECOND, AND MAKE CONTINUOUSLY SMALLER SWEEPS
9. This will give you a definite answer to what it is in the ground.
10. GROUND BALANCE!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the good info, I have been using salt mode for months. I have slowed my swipe to a foot a second and sometimes go to 0 sensitivity, still fooled often. I was looking for a coin sound in a ball park this morning and using a brass probe to find the coin as I didn't want to dig holes. My detector coil was at least 3 feet away from where I was probing and every time I stuck the probe into the ground my detector gave off a high tone. It must be that I am not use to such a sensitive detector. I guess it is just me LOL.

Going to shut up and wish you all Happy hunting
Dan

LOL . The CZ3D rocks. It is uber-sensative. I found a set of keys a foot down today. I thought i was going to find another county down there!

maybe it goes all the way to tibet!..nasty place right now though!

Any updates as to how your adjusting to the CZ-3D? Just curious, read your post a while back and wanted to see if your starting to learn your machine. I've been using one for almost three years now and absolutely love it, but there are some tricks and it will take some time. Let me know how things have been going for you.

Absolutely love it. I have learned it I think. I grab coins all over the place. I have to GB alot it seems, but that is because the ground changes drastically down here. Its a penny munching machine. I just need to do some research and hit up some old spots and find some silver.

First and foremost visit Mikes CZ page as it should cut your learning curve and above all give you some tricks of the trade rel those darn deep rusty nails...
http://mikewd.fws1.com/
Second trying to compare a CZ and the yeller feller is like comparing a 22 and 30-06...although yeller feller makes a nice local parks unit.
Third to get the deep ones makes sure you have an accurate ground balance and with the 3D model sens. of 4 to 4.5 and have a nice slow swing..
4th when you bring the nail out of the ground you broke the halo and surely it will come in as iron..
5th do watch that foil segment as it probably contains 35-40 percent of any gold rings you will find.
6th Many use the larger and smaller acc.coils with great success.
7th with experience a CZ has an voice of its own and with time thru subtle differences you will even be able to tell those darn rusty deep nails and to me a silver coin
just has a more mellow sound and gold rings do hit harder than the junk that mimics them.
8th coil for coil a CZ may be the deepest unit on the market today.
9th indeed read Nasa Tom's reports or watch one of his videos as he has impressed me with his knowledge.
10th good luck with your new unit and all of the above was gained thru experience as since 92 have used one model or another CZ..

tough setting for sure to use the 3d in!..it is NOT supposed to be used in trashy parks according to the it's daddy..dankowski!

your statement about the cz-3d in parks is noted, but honestly begs the question!...where the hell DO ya use it?..if not in trashy "old" areas?..apparently with the exception of VERY FEW sites, the detector HAS to be used in trashy areas because THAT scenario is what you are confronted with no matter WHERE ya hunt these days!

I use it everywhere. It works, in every kind of environment. Mostly parks, random churches and old school yards. I have not found much older stuff yet, its a matter of doing some research to find the older sites. A while ago, georgia started revamping their parks, diggin up the old and replacing it with new stuff, so it is hard to find good sites, either way, I find stuff.
