CZ-3D

be careful with cz's they LOVE iron!..you will dig a deep iron object with the cz!..nature of the beast!..it's tougher to tell, but in time you will be able to tell the difference!..be patient!..good luck!

I found my first three coins now, they were all pennies but it did make a different sound, it was more of a bah-beep then just a mid-beep which the fifteen nails i dug did. I can attest to it finding rusty nails to about a foot deep. it is deffinatly powerful. I am going to a local park before work to see what happens.

Oh Jet!

Sounds like a surefire way to lose a job.

I wouldn't advise metal detecting before work!

Your wife probably would not be searching for a replacement if 'most of the air ran out of a tire,' but the store might!

LOL...yeah, we went to a local church before work, she found an old all metal cap gun about in the one foot range. I found two dimes, and a nickel. Also changed the batteries. It gets weird when the batteries get low. The pinpoint feature goes to crap along with the GB when the juice gets low. Coins make a different noise that I am starting top pick up.
Where are some good hunting areas for older coins? Here in Georgia, we have a bunch of old ghost towns that I plan on visiting. Other than that I am trying to get some coinage.

Hey Jet,
Go to your library and ask about a local historical society... even my 2 horse town has one.
They usually got a lot of old pictures, for starters...

I remember with my first CZ6 I dug 8 deep rusty nails and was ready to wrap it around a tree. It took a while but I learned how to figure out what the unit was telling me and have dug more than one 12 inch silver dime and may be the deepest coil for coil on the planet.
Google Mikes CZ page as its a good read and should really help in all facets of a CZ no matter what model..Feel free to E-mail me if you have a specific problem as Mike and myself having been swinging a CZ one model or the other since 92...

So i went to a local park, set Disc to 0 sens to 2 and was off, i found a penny, and a bunch of pull tabs. I still cant figure out how to distinguish coins from crap. I turned sideways and went over stuff, and watched the needle bounce between nickel and quarter, and bam, a pull tab. I still dont get it. I am just digging about everything to see what happens. What am i doing wrong? It high beeps on everything, and i can here the low beeps everywhere.

LOL, we are both in the same boat. All of the high tones are not the same. The coins are supposed to have a sharper crisp sharp edge high tone ( like a square sound wave) and the iron has a more rounded sound (like a round sound wave). I don't know if it is my hearing or my machine but I still dig nails and tabs, my place where I practice has a lot of iron in the ground. It was pasture land when I bought it but must have been a junk yard at some time. I continue to be faked out by some iron targets and aluminum slaw including tabs still. Found a old rusted bed coil yesterday that sounded like a coin on edge to me. Try to find some older sites that don't have a lot of junk. When you do be sure to let me know where they are! Would be glad to help you investigated them (LOL).

I am trying hard. I have peered over the manual countless times. I am just going to dig every "good" tone i hear. That is going to be a pain, but, something should show up.

Here are a couple of links that may help your learning curve with the CZ-3D:

The links to the articles by Thomas Dankowski might be extra helpful.

Good hunting,

that's the problem with the cz-3d!..you really have to use it in salt mode, and NOT enhanced mode because of the proliferation of trash!..dankowski states that the detector SHOULD be used in areas that date from the 1950's back, however just about every old area in public use these days HAS a ton of "NEW" crap in it!..unfortunately mr dankowski,in his (infinite wisdom!") DOESN'T have an answer for those circumstances!..rather than bit** about it,i can say that if it was me,i would hunt in "salt" mode.then "cross circuit" into advanced" mode to check the target!..i realize that you may have to posses the patience of "job" to do this, however,i believe you CAN be successful with it by using that tecnique!..best of luck with it!

best of luck in your most interesting endeavour! ..be prepared to get a ton of exercise..one thing for sure is that being the proud owner of the cz-3d,you will be a very fit person if you are not already!

So what does salt mode really do then? As far as fitness goes, i think i dug 20 holes yesterday in the clay, i can definatly feel it today.

Its my understanding that the salt mode turns your 3-D into a CZ-5 basically. It does away with the enhanced program which changes the way your tones respond to items. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Actually, the 3D in salt mode would be the same as a CZ5 in salt mode. The difference is that the 3D has the "enhanced" mode while the 5 has the "normal" mode. This has been an area of confusion since the 3D came out. Hope this helps.

Good hunting,

So, i flipped it to SALT mode today. Went to a local park, and found all sorts of coinage. Including one Sacajawea One dollar coin, circa 2000! It just redeemed itself today. I will post a photo when i get a chance. It does sound and act different in SALT mode. I like it better actually, it picks up things differently and produces a different sound. I believe the ENHANCE mode, widens the search pattern and goes deeper, but lacks in locating things in a fine tune manner. I am going to go back to the same park tomorrow and see what turns up!
