Anybody want to start an Ace350 tips thread?

I'm new to the Ace350, but really like it. I know that Hottexas had chimed in with the double D wiggle to cull out bottle caps. (not to be confused with a similar move at the strip clubs!) I have figured out that when coin shooting, the pinpoint function generally shows a sharp peak in signal and then nothing when over a coin. You can kinda understand the size of the target this way. I did notice that on silver quarters, it isn't quite as sharp of a jump though, so I'm not too sure about it yet. Anyway, if you guys know any other tips or secrets, please chime in and share!

I think that having a 350 page is a no-brainer YES Many of us have the 350 and it is different in some ways and the same in others when compared to the 150/250.
I know that the 350 will go very deep; dug a penny at 10 inches plus today! and a metal rose tag at 14 inches.

Hey I'm so new here I just go with the flow....Also own a 350.....My first detector....Any and ALL tips will be welcome.

I'm in the same boat. I am used to using round coils, and the DD is quite a bit different. I have learned that by pinpointing in one direction, and making a mental note of where the strongest signal is, and then turning 90 degrees and pinpointing from that angle, at the strongest signal, the target is right under the open square just in front of where the shaft attaches to the coil. As far as depth, 10" on a penny is about as far as I have dug so far. I have passed up signals that were broken, and they were probably the really good coins that I was after. Anybody have any info on the broken signals and how to determine if it is a good target? I probably should just start digging those to help me figure this thing out.

But first let me say I would like to say thank all of you that make this forum such a wounder place to gather such wonder full information, if it wasn't for some of you, we all would be stuck in some places, we wouldn't be near as good as we are. AND Thank you for posting your finds, I really love looking at them. and don't forget that's why we come here is to share our finds, I think we spend way to much time on off the wall subjects like mine does this, well mine don't, well mine does, well mine don't. Well mine is better than yours, well I have brand X and it's better than yours, or I have model X and It's better than yours. some of us can't swing a heavy detector or don't have the money for it and some are just getting started.

It's the Find's Forum and when someone post finds, unless it's a $10,000 gold ring or a or gold coin it seems like no body gives a damm, these people are proud of there finds and they want to show them and there proud of them, not every one here can be lucky to find some of the things that some of you find because of various reasons, Like Jobs, Time, Travel, Kids, Gas, or what ever. HELP these new people get started that's what this Forum is all about.

Now for my learning experience with my 350, I have bought a 6.5 X 9 PROformance coil, and must say I Like it. and did some test with it. at a ballpark, I tested it in one area about 30 ft. X 60 ft. parking lot on one side and a fence on the other, using the fence post I could zig zag back and forth and use the fence post for guide markers, In this area I found 46 coins and No trash to speak of ( very Little) I didn't have problems with steel bottle caps, I did have some problems with alum caps but not much, hunting in the coin mode I could run the sensitivity wide open. pinpoint was deadly, I mean I could dig a hole 1.5x1.5 every time, One target hit as a dime, in the hole I dug a zinc cent at 2 inches, I knew then something wasn't just right, so I recheck the hole and it was still giving a dime single, Down another inch, I pulled out a bent nail, knowing it still wasn't right, I rechecked the target again and again it showed a dime, digging another one inch down I found a dime. I have never been so happy with My 350  that could see through that nail.

OK now back to the test, after I finished with the area I hunted, I put the DD back on and went back over the area I just hunted to see what I missed, I didn't find not one Coin, yep that's right not one. and dug more trash.

I know a lot of you are sold on the DD coil, But I'm not so sure I am just yet, will have to do some more testing, But it sure was a pleasure to hunt with the 6.5 X 9 coil, Lighter, easier to swing and not digging all that trash.

I must say for open areas and depth the DD is the way to go.

Thanks for letting me ramble

Thanks Texas I'am having trouble with the DD.......Been using that 4.5 sniper coil more than the DD....I find more and dig less trash....Now thats not to say what I probably am and have missed by doing so........Don't get me wrong I use the DD........Once spring hits and it's not so miserable out I can play with it more...It appears there is quite a learning curve with it.Especially for a new person like my self and others.I think I will look in to that Proformance coil you spoke of......
Thanks Dave in Balto

The DD is a piece of cake once you figure it out. What kind of problems are you having? This is the place to solve them.

Bill

Bill it's mostly a learning curve rather than the coil....I guess mostly I am digging a lot of trash.....By it being my first detector as well I found it just a little hard to pinpoint as well.......I have made progress...and waiting for better weather like I said to get out and really get to know it better....That sniper coil gave me no issues....I just started diggin.....LOL.......And finding a ton of coins....I live close to Joe in Md.....Joe has reached out and is willing to help in any way he can.....Once again we are waiting for a little better weather...We got over a foot of very heavy wet snow here last week........it's miserable just to walk in.......
Thanks Dave in Balto

Do the "twitch" over broken and iffy signals and they will often turn into crisp, clear signals. Always remember, you are using a "motion detector" and the faster you move the coil over the target the better it discriminates and the deeper it goes. Pinpointing off the tip of the coil right under the logo is the easiest way to do it and you can pinpoint without even using the pinpoint button. Just center the target, drag the coil straight back wiggling it gently side to side until the logo passes over the target and the signal stops and you have it pinpointed. DD's detect nearly as deep at either end as they do anywhere else. The signal pattern resembles a long, narrow, wedge right down the center and the full length of the coil. It's a piece of cake. No rocket scientists needed.

I have a Ace 350 that I am very impressed with. It is my second detector and the one I pick up first when I want to do a little detecting.
I only have the stock DD coil and it seems to work real well for me. I seldom use the pinpoint function as I can just wiggle the coil over a target and turn 90 Deg. as I continue the wiggle.
My pro pointer helps a lot too with quicker recovery.

I am Interested to hear what other coils are being used on the 350. I've been tempted to order a sniper coil for mine.
The coil that you are using Hot Texas sounds interesting also. Keep posting your thoughts on the PROformance coil as you get more familiar with it.

I just got a Garrett 350. Starting to get the hang of it as this is my first detector. However was getting very frustrated this weekend when out with my brother and his Whites Detector which is a comparable unit. My Garrett was going bonkers whenever he got within 6 feet of so of me, but his unit didn't respond to mine what so ever. My detector also read bottle caps and tabs as coins but when he went over the same area he new it was junk. Am I doing something wrong or should I have bought a different unit.

Ken

I think if you want to get the most out of your detector, as in ID ing junk.....you should run in All Metal and deal with the extra tones.

I'am also new, and now have my 350. My son ,who is in okinawa japan has had his 250 for about a month and took it to the beach area when the tide was out and on his first use found a mans 14k weding ring, a whomens gold ring with different stones, and an engagement ring with a large dimond. He is the one that got me going. So I had to out do him and received my 350. Since I live in the upper part of Michigan, I had to wait for a ice thaw to try it out. I found a penny the first day, a penny the second day and on the third day a quarter, dime and another penny in the coin mode.

I also have a Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter, which has found me alot of differet treasures.

I ha ve modifyed mine a little. I drilled another hole in the bar to bring the controler about 3 inches closer to me , since the unit controler is quite small. i think they could have enhanced the screen a little bit more for us old folks, Hard to see the target thats displayed. I may put a mgnification glass on it. I must say thow that by bringing the controler closer to me has been benificial and I can still use my thumb to change what ever is desired

Your idea about a 350 thread is Great and I am all for it. Thanks for the idea, and look at all the respondes that you have had. Thanks

Hi All,

Thanks for starting this topic on the 350.
I have had mine for a short time now and I too am having trouble with broken and 'jumpy' signals.
Uncle Willy, by 'twitch', do you mean swinging the coil faster? I have been passing up these signals, and therefore probably passing up some nice targets.
I am open for any and all tips. Keep 'em coming.

Paul :clapping:

My 350 has a problem with the pin point . When you push the button it sounds off all the time even in the air? Has anyone else had any problems? Ace 350 thread is a good idea!!!!!!

If it is making sounds when you press the pinpoint button, and there are no power lines near, and you aren't inside, there is something wrong with your unit. I had to send mine in for a tune, and it took about 3 weeks to get it back. Good news is that Garrett didn't charge anything for the repair.
Good luck with it.

Went out in a campground yesterday to get a little practice with my DD coil. In about an hour all I could find was bottle caps and tab tops!
So, frustrated as I was, I switched to my sniper coil and after a couple of hours, I had found a handful of clad and very little trash!
Any ideas what I might have been doing wrong?

Paul

Not sure Buster i usually find both coins and junk with mine i dig almost everything where i hunt because even the trash is old. Call me this week and maybe we can get together and teach each other some 350 tricks

I have the same issue with bottle caps... seems that the DD coil really loves them. I have found that if I get a dime/quarter signal or higher, even when I put the ace in zero mode and do the wiggle trying to determine if it's a screwcap, I still have about a 50% chance of it being a screwcap even if I didn't get the iron beep at the end of the swing. I don't have as much trouble with the sniper coil, and with the 10x14 excelerator coil, the result is about the same as the stock coil. I have all but given up on trying to figure out if it is a cap or good target, and just dig everything. Unless the ground is exceptionally hard, I can usually dig the target faster than I can examine it in zero mode trying to figure out if it is a good one or trash.
