Alot of the silver dimes I hit sound like deep wheat pennies, so you have dig them as nearby iron or being really worn can drop the silver signal down to wheat penny range.     I was wondering the same thing. Seems like if the nut worked its way loose, it would still be looped around the reigns. I have found a handful of them over the years, and they are cool to find.
