Hi Folks; I was off line because I was sick but I'm ok now.I agree that it is NOT about bashing police officers. They do have a hard job to do.I would never place them all in one category or other. They are doing their best to protect us all. My point was that it was not until that officer saw that detector that dahut's problem began.I believe shewas WRONG and it wreaked of a power trip.I applaude dahut for his very tactfull approach to this situation. He should be commended for it.

On the FMDAC I have not heard from or about them for a very long time even though I talked to Dick Stout and Betty White many times on various subjects over the years.I do know some of the inside politics involved in times past. I also know that in spite of best intentions it never really took hold and kind of just faded away. Then I hear of situations like this. It is frustrating. I do not blame or disparage any person or group for its current state. I just wish that we can do something much more definitive about these situations.Hence my applaude to dahut.I hope you keep us all posted on the developements to come.Thanks. PEACE:RONB
Hey Barker - I hope you are feeling better.
As you note, this really is a bigger issue than 'ol Dahut wheedling on about being kicked outta the high school. I know, most are tempted to walk away by now and just say. "Lets just go detect somewhere else. It 'aint really our problem, etc...." But, that attitude can only last so long.
What happened to me is happening all over
my area, and you hear reports of it on all the detecting websites. It is plain that as detectors have become popular and "mainstream," the eye of those around us are increasingly
upon us.
The FMDAC (Federation of Metal Detecting and Archeological Clubs) has always been concerned with organizing detectorists and giving a voice to the hobbyist. But it has always relied on detectorists banding together both locally in clubs and nationally through the FMDAC lobbying on our behalf. But today, most clubs have faded despite the growing number of detectorists. It seems most detectorists prefer to remain solo, outside the organized club environment. This leaves the FMDAC more of a clearing house resource for those few clubs that do exist anymore.
For example, findmall has thousands of users on this forum. This topic alone has gotten 107 posts to date.
The FMDAC has a forum, too, and when I asked about this issue there, a total of FOUR responses were posted. Does this indicate the amount of support we are giving the one organization that has ever supported and promoted our hobby? You do the math.
The longer we consider this sort of event someone else's problem, the closer it will come to each of us. Since the public responds to most concerns nowadays by shouting, "They need to pass a law!" and clamoring for the government to step in - well we had best be ready to ask permission in advance or mount our own defense.
