Who has said the heck with the $150 LiIon Battery?

Ok AJ - My new battery install is complete. Well worth the $15 dollars and time. It's charging now with the usual blink green light. Here are the photos taken while doing the new battery install. Let you all know when the green light stops and what the CTX-3030 thinks of it. lol
Here is a link to see the battery charging....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcIoZ2J4zxQ&feature=youtu.be

good job you will get years of trouble free detecting now and defiantly worth the effort at least we know what's in there  it gives a sort of warm fuzzy feeling :beers:

so well done and hope you find some goodies with the new powerhouse under the hood !!

AJ

Thanks AJ,

Yeah - I just need more "junk" Li-Ion battery Packs!

Headed to St. Augustine, FL this Saturday the 19th. Will be hunting just south of there. I've has some good luck now and then. I, like many, hunt for 4-6+ hours at a time and the Li-Ion pack holds up well for a full day without having to switch out the battery. Thanks again for the encouragement to move this project forward. Here is the charging battery pack with the old 4 cells next to it. There is also some recent FL finds over the last two spring break visits.

Hello Everyone,

Well mission complete. The new cells in the CTX battery pack charged up just find giving the solid green light - seems like it took an hour or so. Popped it on the CTX-3030 and fired it up - happy as a lark and now with a full battery shown icon. Only think I don't know now is how long will they run the CTX per charge? Time will tell. Below is the link of a short video showing the fully charged battery. HH Jason

You took out 2200mah batteries, so as long as what you put back in are equal to or greater MAH, your charge will last just as long or longer.

2250 mah so more time than I would need them for one hunt, wouldn't take the minelab Chinese's battery's as mah gospel.

there up around 3500 mah now for the best 18650's made in japan battery's, my next repack will be the best around, I just used some lap top battery's I had laying around last time 2200mah a 4 hr hunt doesn't move the green line say 1 mm and best not to run Li ion battery's dry they don't like it.

My CTX battery was doing the same as others, never getting a full charge and always charging. I replaced my batteries (used 2500mAh) on Saturday, took me about 45 minutes or so. Hardest part was getting the tabs loose from the old batteries without tearing/breaking them.

Used it Sunday for 4 hours, still shows full charge bars on CTX.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread, saved $149.99

:beers:

So, I have never used my recharge battery yet, in 3 yrs! Think its still good?

WTF?! Why would you NOT use the factory battery?

I guess there is one way to find out!!!

Im a fsn of AA use. They use to work better than the rechargables. Guess im in a habit.

A habit of throwing away money. I can hunt 3 - 4 times for every charge and the cost to recharge those batteries is pennies. If you recharge in your car it would be free (just slightly more hassle) If you don't want your rechargeable battery, I'll pay for the shipping to send it to me!

I difnt say I was going to give it away. Also, I didnt have the option to not buy it with the machine. It is what it is,

And I was just saying that if you are going to let the rechargeable battery die from not being routinely charged (it may already be permanently damaged) then it's doing you no good and I would put it to use and repair it if needed.

Hello AmberJack,
Great article on replacing the Battery on the CTX3030 and I liked your attitude of not excepting 2nd best from some of the detector manufacturers that use cheap batteries .
If you want more qualified information on Batteries just visit this great website called ;- batteryuniversity.com I use this site all the time and I am an Electrician.
Can you tell me what program do you use to find you're Silver Pre Decimals on your CTX3030, I recently found a quite rare Round Silver 1966 50 cent piece on an local beach that came up on my CTX3030 as FECO as 1:44 at a depth of about 18cm.

hey Electriken

thanks for the battery website

I can send you a PM with my tones set up tone boxes that I use been using it from day dot like near 4 years now, has its little things to get used too but that's what makes it work for me I been using it for so long I know what all the sounds mean for the most part. set up for old stuff and goldies just have one line across the bottom as disc for the most part, go slow and listen hard for old stuff, ctx is a good goldie machine also one of the reasons it stays

yeah seems from testing bigger silver 01-XX would be where they seem to come in, tested a crown comes in 01-38 something to look out for never found one so  round 50 well done they were not around for long where they people stashed them or the gov. grabbed them back :punch: only found one and that was years ago with a etrac didn't know what I was looking at at first  thought old British crown then it clicked so well done not many of those around !!

good to hear your out there catching some :bouncy:

ok back to my cleaning

Hello Amberjack,
Thanks for the reply to my post . One of my issues I have with using the CTX3030 I can't use my Polarised Sunglasses and look at the digital display without seeing a distorted image.I'm sure when they were testing the CTX3030 before agreeing on a final design they become aware of this issue ? You only have to look at any cheap mobile device none of them have this problem. I ended up having to purchase a new set of prescription glasses that were not Polarised so I can see the CTX3030 display with out the distortion .
I would like to know just how much the actual parts of the CTX3030 cost in total compared to what they sell the detector for ? I'm sure they used the cheapest option when they decided on the final build?
