Whites MXT 300

Which DD coil are you referring to and what type of soil/conditions are you hunting in? Also, what state do you live in? I'm a new MXT user, and I'd appreciate your feedback.
Thanks much.

Small coils discriminate better in trashy areas, If you believe what other people say, and for the most part I do.
The land I.m own is made up of river silt which overflowed from the Mississippi before the levee's were constructed. Most property has a buildup of river sand over that,
A kind of black sand. The soil will be Highly mineralized in areas. I'm an electrician and have seen many 2 ft. deep trenches go in around here.
Between 6" and 12" there is usually a layer of thick sticky clay mud, only the biggest plants and trees can penetrate this. Between 12" and 24" you can usually find the water table " area of ground that stays water logged, unless it is a dry season. Haven't had a dry season in a couple of years. The smaller coil will help make my signals
easier to separate, thats what I hope anyway. I will also be able to fit a smaller coil in a tighter spot.

Sounds like the Excelerator 6" w/b an ideal coil for me. I have the standard 9" coil that comes w/ the MXT, but I'm looking for a coil that will give me more discrimination/separation. I was leaning toward the 5.3" Whites Bullseye, but it sounds like the Excelerator 6" w/b an ideal/better coil for me.One more question: Do you think there is much difference in depth, etc. between the 5" and 6" Excelerator coils? Thanks much, Dennis.

If Whites took their computer and went through the whites MXT owners database, send out a poll on "What would you like to come standard on an MXT" I think alot of MXT owners would like to see a version that comes stock with the 6X10 DD Eclipse coil.

Splash on a gimmick name like "Whites Liberty" or "Whites MXT Ultimate" or something else....I think they would sell more MXT's. My 950 looks nice hanging on the wall. But in n/e PA a DD coil works better.

One of the specials in the mother lode area's,Whites includes the 6X10 DD coil and no one outside that area (I think it's Calif,Arizona,Utah,Oregon.Maybe another west coast state or two) can get this neat deal (yep i asked and begged and was told "No Dice").
The BIG 12 does look sturdy, and an 8 inch, or any size of DD would be a perfect companion for it. And Kelly will probably sell its share of Accelerators too. I just wonder if the 12's will be as HEAVY as Sunray's 12's ? Talk about a sore elbow!:detecting::stretcher:
Vlad, I,m a day early with that answer about the weight of the MXT 300. The whole thing weighs bairly over 4 pounds, with batteries . I was stunned when I picked up the 300, Its light. I,m in love, I hope my dog don't get jealous. I didn't get any headphones with it, but from others this morning , I decided to purchase a pair of ultimate gray ghost. I'm hooked on this site and like reading the useful info other people suggest. Especially the post from members that haven't been here or a while.
Jbhau, I personally don't have any personal experience with whites 5.3 but being smaller than your stock it should give you better discrimination in trashy areas because it can't see as much at the same time. Its all about the flux pattern created by an energized coil. There is a special test I can come up with when I get the pieces that should verify a coils flux pattern. In my line of work I deal with electromagnetic coils of all sizes and shapes and find this aspect of the hobby very interesting. Aftermarket coils
are designed to preform better than standard, at least a little bit. Thats one of their sales pitches. So is a 5.3 as good as a 6, well it will take all of us testing in different enviromental ground conditions to answer that.

6x10 dd eclipse will probably be my next purchase to go with my 300mm. Some people say you can pinpoint off the front end or back end , is this true of all elliptical designs, if so
would this be a low tone or high, and maybe related to what it's seeing.

I use a 6X10 instead of the stock. Its easiest to pinpoint off the tip. I would use Eric Foster's technique described in his book on the MXT to characterize your ground before you buy a 6X10 though. This coil is really most useful in moderate to bad ground. In ground less than moderate (mid-range mineralization) you'll actually lose some depth over that Super 12 that's coming with your MXT.

hi richard!
how do you know this?..has whitey tipped his hand?..inquiring minds want to know!..thanks!
