Whites MXT 300

...White's and other manufacturers feel they have to have something new every year. When was the last time Nautilus introduced a new product? I think we have become spoiled by it and expect it. Then again, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

The new player on the block isn't playing by the rules and is releasing new machines left and right and generating a lot of excitement while doing it, not to mention hitting a couple of home runs while they are at it. Whites need to create some excitement of their own for the novice purchaser to entice them to look at their machines. Enter the the Super 12". A big coil with a big depth claim will gain attention from the newbies. As far as the engineering staff is concerned, the 12" isn't going to work any worse than the big 9.5" coil does, and people will still be buying a smaller accessory coil to hunt the trash with anyway so there is really nothing to lose by going this route. Actually its a pretty smart marketing idea. Low cost and may slow down the market share losses a bit while they regroup and redirect.

By the way, this is not a drive by flame attack. I just got me a M6 to play with and I'll put the super 12" on it and call it the M6-300.

I pretty much aggree with your assessment, also I am not sure if Whites is going to offer both options the MXT 9.5 coil and the MXT 12 inch coil if so it be easier to manage repairs, returns, inventory etc,, for the two different package by calling one the 300 model etc..

Yea, I agree its a good idea but I don't think its honest for them to call it a NEW machine. Its NOT a new machine. Its the same old MXT with a 12inch coil.
Unless there is something fundamentally NEW in the electronics box, its the same MXT we all love ( well, many of us anyway ):smoke:

I agree with you completely. Unless there is something new in the electronics, just giving the MXT a bigger coil doesn't warrent calling the machine new. It's NOT new at all, its just got a bigger coil. I call it deceptive, something many big companies practice just to pull in new customers; I prefer honesty myself.

If Ford puts out a Mustang and then a Mustang GT. anyone cry over it or put down Ford for have two cars called the samething just one has a bigger motor ? Whites did the samething ... so what ? it still a MXT...

Just my two cents worth..

Morris

I think you made my point. The motor is bigger and maybe some other things. The MXT's inner works is NOT bigger nor has any other changes been made. Its still the same machine. I suppost the Mustang could have had bigger tires put on on it and call it the Mustang 750!!!

The MXT is half coil and procressor if one half of the instrument/package with a 9.5 coil and one with a 12 inch coil you have two different packages. For inventory purposes I guess they could call one package the MXT9.5 and the onther MXT12 or they could callone the MXT standard and the other MXT300 (the standard having the 9.5 coil and the other 12 inch coil with new paint).

Why do people consider the processor as the most important part of the instrument from experience the coil is pretty damn important too.

Hi,

I'm unable to find any information directly from White's saying this is a "New" machine. You can still get the MXT with the 950 coil, and now you have the option of getting it with the 12" if you prefer. What's wrong with that?

I've always thought manufacturers should sell coils and control boxes separately. That way I could buy a machine and then whatever coil I want.

as much as i would like to agree with you,i really do not!.i sense that whitey HAS been working on new circuit designs for a while, and damn the economy in that these new designs are just NOT ready for marketing yet!..maybe to be released this spring!..it is difficult to comprehend that being the leader in the industry, that they will allow market share to just evaporate in the face of competition.this would be so unlike sweet home to just "bleed" off market share!

good point!..well taken, however whitey really has not introduced a newly designed detector for a while, which to be honest, IS unusual for them!...i just have a feeling they have something "BIG!" coming!..a possible "breakthrough!" in technology!..

Anyone realise that 12" is 30cm, could be that they are just selling the mxt with a bigger coil rather than you having to buy a seperate one.
I've got a MXT-7000, which is just a marketing gimick by a dealer in Spain.

I DONT THINK I WOULD LIKE USING THAT 12INCH COIL ANY WAY I DO A LOT OF FIELD HUNTING OUT HERE IN OHIO AND I WOULD RATHER USE MY STOCK ECLIPSE 950 COIL ON MY OLD MXT TWO MANY HOLS ON THAT 12 INCH COIL ON THAT NEW MXT 300 FOR ME MORE TROUBLE WITH THE WHEAT STUBBLES IN THE FIELD SO I LOVE MY OLD MXT ...... I imagine the coil is going to add weight as well. The MXT already wieghs 4.3 pounds!
Add the coil and thats just going to tire your armm out even more. I had the same
problem with the Ace 250. Bought the 9x12 coil and what a BEAR!!!!! I ended up returning
it to the dealer for credit.

Steve,
You're right, MXT 300 is just a MXT with a deeper penetrating coil. Whites knows that their customers were going out and buying excellerator coils
because they didn't think the standard coil was capable of all that the MXT could do. I bought the MXT 300 and the 6 in. excellerator to go with it.
You know those that don't keep up with the times are going to leave some treasure behind.

The MXT 300 will result in the sale of a lot of smaller coils....swinging a 12" coil all day will take it's toll physically.... Taking into consideration too that you are only gaining an 1" or so in depth... White's will be coming out this year with some exciting machines but the past couple of years, have been caught up in the security aspect of the business... White's sees the "writing on the wall" by the 5 new releases of both Minelab and First Texas... They are beginning to appreciate that their market share is decreasing due to the aggressive marketing of these 2 companies...This is a hobby where people demand new "toys" on a regular basis and to "rest on your laurels" means a considerable loss of revenue.... With all of that said, White's will soon introduce some nice, innovative new machlnes....start saving your dollars... RIchard R

To produce his Gold Scan-5 which many feel is the best Pulse on the market. Being made in the US instead of the NANNY STATE cannot help but bring the price down.
Is there really anything new to the new 300 Series detectors other than the 12 inch loops?

The BIG 12 does look sturdy, and an 8 inch, or any size of DD would be a perfect companion for it. And Kelly will probably sell its share of Excellerators too. I just wonder if the 12's will be as HEAVY as Sunray's 12's ? Talk about a sore elbow!:detecting::stretcher:
