As you and I communicate often you know I have more than one detector..In fact many more ... But, here is what I have observed, and experienced over the last couple of detecting seasons. ( I live in climate changing area) so seasons are around April ( Maybe) to September for us here.
I bought an F75, a F75 LTD, An Etrac, A Se Pro, and an SE........... I had a DFX, XLT, CZ7a, & Fisher 1266.............. In all honesty I used the XLT more than any other detector over the years. I then bought a T2...wow I fell in love with that detector..I had to learn it though..Then I got a 6.5 T2..almost a re-learn as it responds differently than the T2 standard.. Deeper too. Anyway.I started changing off on same day hunts, and week, to week outings as I went out detecting. I used a different detector almost every-time out...... I all of a sudden found that my good finds count went way down.. and I mean way down too. It seemed as if I were learning a detector every-time I picked it up.. Some detectors worked better than others, ( For me the T2)..but I was still spending more time learning than detecting.. Also digging far more junk items on each outing.........I lost my way so to say. I wasn't understanding any one detector on how it responded, or it's little traits so to say.. My buddies were finding plenty..I was finding new money and junk...So I asked this question..on the forum. Myself I think I have proved one needs to learn one detector and stick with it. The replys seem to agree. I have started using only the T2..It works best for me in my area...My finds have gotten much better. Though I am still tempted to use different detectors I don't.
The XLT is still a good standby detector ..but it does not have the depth .... I just muddied the waters switching back and forth....never really developed the skill required on each detector.. SO my honest opinion is pick one learn it..and use it.. I do better that way. Everyone is different I am sure...so use what works for you..
