Well..I actually MADE one in 5th grade for the science fair. I won first prize, and actually used the thing
( yes...it worked to about 2 -3 inches but sorry, no discrimination !!)

I still have it...check out the pics. Too bad I trashed a Roy Rogers lunch box to make it but hey...I was only 10 !!

newbie here..can anyone on this forum please offer any info on the whites tm808 twin box. i have the fisher gemeni twin box but it gives false readins when bumping grass or briers...any advice will be greatly appreciated..thanks in advance. ellis

The first detector was a cheap BFO, I can't remember the name of it, must have been around the year 1970. The sound of it reminded me of a motor on a boat as it would increase in tone as it past over a metal target. Then I bought a Whites 4000. It had one of the first GEB features on it but it only affected the all-metal mode if I remember correctly. I still have a high regard for Whites detectors because of that one. No, it didn't go very deep but it at least had a form of discrimination.

got a kit from radio shack, came with coil, rods, box, circuit board, and all the stuff to go on it in a baggie, took me about 3 hrs to solder everything and I was up and running. that was back in the 70's I think (old timers kicking in) had fun with it I think it would go about 3 or 4 inch's deep.

Then a Fisher 1220 and a 1225x loved them great MD'ers

THEN...Last month Dec 4, 2006 got the best a Whites XLT, I have the stock coil, the 8" coil and the 5.3. I go out almost every day now.

It still works! Had to put it together from a kit. Found several coins with it. Now I have a Garrett GTI 1500. Don't know if I could go without the size function.

yeah!..but can you find any thing beyond 2 inches!...(hahaha!)

White's 2900/D Trooper mid 70's. Still got it and still works. Not too bad just for coins or junk! Actually could discriminate most junk tabs. Of course lost nickles and rings.
