Vince Gifford will have to prove himself....................

I agree with almost all of the replies to my original post...............................but one thing that does remain............... the simple fact that Tesoro is way past the "due date" for a new machine. This "will" hurt their sales............ and can any company afford to lose sales in tough times???? Every time someone buys a new Fisher Garret or Whites that's a sale that didn't go to Tesoro!!!!

Perhaps economic times are what they're waiting for to pass? I mean detectors aren't like automobiles, appliances, home repair and maintenance.....detectors are a luxury, and right now isn't the best time to be spending money on things that aren't necessity, at least for the largest majority of the country. We're also a somewhat limited audience as well, I wonder how many detector owners, or soon to be owners there are in the US?

Perhaps other manufacturers aren't doing themselves any favors by manufacturing new detectors....though the couple last releases I've seen didn't look as if they'd required much in the way of new tooling or assembly :poke:

Spending a lot of $ to sell an unknown number of detectors may not be the best move right now......perhaps they're simply practicing a good business sense? Regardless, it's just all speculation on our part, but I still have yet to see anything which leads me to believe any financial problems are evident.

I think the silence about a new detector makes good business sense. If they announced that they had a new machine coming out in a couple months, how many machines would they sell in the meantime? Would you buy an existing model if you knew for sure that a new one was just around the corner? How many GTI1500's and 1350's do you think Garrett has sold since announcing their new AT pro?

Dan

Sorry Dan..................I don't buy that argument. That's what clearance sales are all about. We all know the car companies will come out with a new car each year............ dealers discount......manufacturers put out a new improved model and life goes on.Some people look forward to buying the previous model others look forward to the new one coming. I know a fellow who would buy the existing Cortes if it was priced lower..........probably many would fit this group....but I on the other hand would like to know that Tesoro had a new one coming....this would make me less likely to buy an Garrett AT Pro............... and that would be good for Tesoro!!! Just my 5 cents worth!!

I just got a laugh reading how everyone is still waiting on their AT's "delayed shipment". I have no doubt Garrett is purposely delaying shipping in an effort to get more orders. This whole "deal" has soured me on Garretts. I'll not own another.....

Smitty

You want to talk about "delayed shipment"----take a look at another major manufacturer (I ain't mentioning any names)! -----Garret will get 'em out shortly (I hope)!

Hi Ivan,

I don't think you can compare the auto industry to metal detectors. They are on both ends of the spectrum for a couple of reasons. Automobiles are big ticket items with a lot of room to discount. Metal detectors aren't. People need cars, people don't need metal detectors. It's two completely different markets and consumers approach them differently.

Just my opinion, but one thing we all agree on is that it would be nice to have a new model or two from Tesoro.

Dan

.....a simple lcd meter with needle that swings left for non-ferrous metals and right for ferrous, they do make this meter, add multi-tone option- switch.
Who cares if it doesn't handle the saltwater beaches, the Garrett AT Pro can't either. Price it at AT Pro pricing.

=================================================
Notice how all the hype from the Garrett dealers and shills on the Farrett, oops Garrett Forums at Findmall and other sites
have become really quiet? Not much being said anymore about the AT PRO. Wonder if Garrett thought they went too far......
all the over hype indicating this is the detector that beats everything in town.........would lead to disappointment when the
over expecting buyer finally get theirs..........

My guess the AT Pro is just an digitalized, touch pad updated version of the AT4, repackaged with Ace 350 features. As well as
doing away with the racy acey yummy yellow coloring, going back to the orig AT3 black color.

By the way, all the hype about the Scorpion, makes you wonder what that has been all about.....maybe because what the did to the AT4
is going to happen to the Scorpion? Scorpion Stinger LCD.......I should make a post on the Scorpion site, errr, maybe not.

Garrett makes more than all the other metal detector manufacturers put together from their security business. Its hard to go into an airport and not see a Garrett there. The hobby line is just a side line for them. They could probably sell the At Pro for $1000 if they needed the money that badly.

According to both Sue and Brad in their customer service department (this is from Wednesday) it was supposed to ship to distributors this week. A dealer posted on some forum that he was told to expect his shipment mid-week next week. They may have slipped a week or two from their original estimates (which was the "beginning of November" when they first announced it, but that ain't too bad considering how some other companies (both inside and outside of the detector industry) have had to delay new products due to the world wide shortage of electronic components.

I noticed the exact same thing, as well as thought the same :crylol:

Steve...."pricing" and "selling" are two totally different things.
