Used Tesoro

I don't know what Tesoro will do, but I know what I would do and what every other detector manufacturer would do. Tell you that it's not covered by the warranty, since you're not the original purchaser and that the shipping cost and the cost of the repair might exceed what you paid for it used off of fee bay. So you might be better off just tossing it.

I wouldn't be surprised that the seller that you bought it from broke the ear off by falling on it, glued it back on and sucked it on fee bay.

What do you expect Tesoro to do?

tabman

Well Tabman You are wrong.
I don't know what Tesoro will do, and neither does anyone else. But I know a reputable dealer will take care of the problem (with the exception of abuse), standing behind it's product, warranty or not.
I bought a different brand, used with 2 coils, 8 months old with the remainder of a 2 year warranty.
I had it about 3 years and one of the coils went bad. I called the MFG, explained the history of the detector and my problem. I was told that a new coil would be in the mail and to just throw away the bad one. 4 days later I had my new coil and no charge.
That kind of service is what makes a good company. Not limited warranties that imply you are getting something for nothing.

The difference is you're the original purchaser. If I called Fisher, Whites or Technetics etc. tomorrow and told them that I bought a used detector or coil off of fee bay and it wasn't working properly and I wanted them to fix it for free, they'd laugh their rear-ends off if it didn't have a transferable warranty.

You just want to argue. And you can't even read.
I just explained what happened to me (the second owner) last year to show you that you are wrong. Now your calling me a lier.

I'll tell you what.
I agree with everything you have said,
I agree with everything you are saying,
I even agree with everything you're going to say.
So we have nothing else to talk about.

Of course some coils are repairable and free to those who are the original purchasers.

tabman said:
You insinuated that Tesoro should repair your coil free of charge because it's a manufacturer's defect even though you're not the original owner.

here is what I said

Scanman said:
Tabman, if it is determined to be a manufacturers defect then yes, I think the correct thing to do with any manufacturers defects is for the company to make it right, regardless of the Warranty. But thats just me, and I do not expect you or others to agree, and honestly I could give a rats ass.

tabman said:
You also insinuated that Tesoro wouldn't be a good company if they didn't fix your coil free of change that you bought off of fee bay.

No thats not correct, here is what I said

Scanman said:
I also said I do not know how this will be handled, and I do not know how it should be handled either?

I guess I will also say this again

Scanman said:
Tabman, in this thread you have repeatedly asked me questions that I have already covered, some more than once. In addition you are always trying to read too much, twist and turn things around. Give it a rest.

tabman said:
I got the facts right.

Hardly?

No Scanman, this is what you said:

I do not think the coils should be so tight that they break or have to fight, sand, lube etc. to install. IMO this is a design or manufacturing issue.

I agree Tesoro is a great company. Great companies stand behind their product.

You're insinuating it's a manufacturers defect and Tesoro is a bad company if they don't take care of it without charge to you.

Scanman you may be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Let's give it rest and wait and see what happens.

Incorrect

I disagree, but would be interested if you care to explain?

I was ready a couple pages ago.

Not trying to stir up a hornets nest here, but after reading all of this I would have to say that I agree with Tabman here on all points. It is all together possible that the thing was broke before you got it and put back together with a drop of super glue then sold on ebay. Probably be hard to tell. I for one don't think that Tesoro would be obligated to fix or replace it for free. I'm not even sure that coils purchased separate have a life time warranty? I know that there warranty is none transferable. Throw dat sucka away and go by you a new one!! :0 P.S. I bought me a brand new 5.75 concentric and there wasn't no warranty card in da box..... :0 Wheaty mike Deuces.

I have sent two used Tesoros in for repairs. One was a Cortes that was defective, and the other a Tiger Shark. I spoke with James on the phone about the Cortes, and I made it perfectly clear that I had bought it used. He encouraged me to send it back, and it was repaired at no cost. With the Tiger Shark I dealt with Rusty, and again, I was up front with the fact that it was a Kijiji purchase. It was pretty rough, but they got it working, and repaired the headphones at no cost. I don't know if things have changed since James left, but if I was you, I would call and discuss the issue with them directly as opposed to discussing it on a forum.

The main reason I decided to discuss this on the forum is because the official announcement was a different message than the one I received. Before I even think of buying any more used Tesoro products, I want to know what to expect, and I figured members would want to know as well.

FWIW, I just bought a used Tejon that arrived DOA. Sent it in to Tesoro (at the seller's expense), and Rusty fixed it, tuned the coil, sent me a new coil cover (because he accidently scratched the old one) and an upgraded mount screw for the coil at no cost.
