The Red Sheet Thing Again - - F4 arrived

HI Bill,

yeah thats a tough one for a mid priced machine for sure. Still not bad though. Any thoughts yet on the ground cancellation abilities? Are you going to take it to the beach? Barnacle Bill can stand the cold, mebbe he would give it a try up at Ogonquit in the black sand where the Edge and X-terras really struggle compared to the multi's?

Tom

Bill let us know how the pinpoint feature works on that machine. Looks like you could just push the button and it stays in pinpoint all metal mode. That works great! And let us knwo wether or not it retains it's settings on power down or sets itself back to original factory settings....more than likely it will revert?

It looks like it you'll get about 8-10inches of good ID and the Different tones might be a great feature also.
If there is time both with air tests and inground tests (test garden). That info would be so good to have.
Plus let us know if you get multi tone feed back and visual feed back, notch control, Zap control, selectable discrimination, plus any other additional features.

Good Luck with your tests Bill, Glad you got one to try and I know it's going to be an impressive inexpensive detector.

You mentioned that the F4 comes with 4", 8",10 1/2" coils, are they the same configuration as the Bounty Hunter coils? I think you know where I'm headed, are the 3300s coils interchangable with the F4 which I think would be a good idea as its all one family now. Mike Taylor

That is correct, just push the pinpoint button, and it goes into a all metal no motion pin point mode.

When powering back on it reverts to a set discrimination mode with 2 notch's of iron discriminated out.

It has a 4 tone audio ID along with the digital ID screen.

I'm a little hesitant to post my in ground target results. It's not that it does or does not do it, but unless your hunting here in my ground the info is almost useless. What works for me here may be a complete failure for someone else in a different location. The other thing with a test garden, you know where the targets are. It makes it a sure thing to locate. If it's a border line target, and you pass the coil over it a few times, you may start to get a response on it. This response may be very light to start with, and it's doubtful that it would have caught your attention in the real world of hunting. Repeated sweeps of the coil over such targets, excites the eddy currents in the metal, causing it to respond to your detector easier. It does do quite well I may add. The depth is quite acceptable, and there should be a bit of gain going over to the 10.5" concentric coil in place of the DD I have on it.

It does have multi tone ID, visual feed back, notch control, and selectable discrimination.

Good Luck with your tests Bill, Glad you got one to try and I know it's going to be an impressive inexpensive detector.

The unit has a $499.00 suggested list price. Selling discounted price of $425.00. Not certain if it coming with the DD coil or the consentric one.

Hi Mike

I believe you can use them. I am going to try out a BH 3300 coil I have here. My understanding was that you could.

Mr. Bill

Hey Bill... I have a couple unanswered questions for ya about the F4. First of all, besides the rod fit/quality that you already mentioned, what other improvements are there over the Discovery 3300? I'd hope there's at least a small list. Also, does the ID raise considerably on a high conductive target as depth increases? I've noticed that with my 3300 for example, it'll ID a CU or clad coin in the 90's when it's shallow and the ID can raise into the 190's at the fringe of detection depth. A little raising (or even lowering) is OK with me but I struggle with the ID more than doubling. Another problem I had with my 3300 is a couple of the battery clips broke the first time I changed batteries. I'd hope the clips on the F4 are better quality, or even a different design. TIA for the comments.

depending on how one looks at it.

They have made some circuit changes, because it doesn't perform like the 3300 I have.
Just for the heck of it, try the double D coil on the 3300 and see if it helps settle it down a bit.
I would imagine that they would have made the connectors different right..

Okay...whose got the Connectors for sale I gotta try something, just for the heck of it all!

How much for 5 pin connectors?

Did you see my post above with a couple questions about the F4? Email answers would be fine if you prefer. Or if the answers are you don't know yet, well that's fine too! :) Also, while we're on the subject, do you or anyone else know if any and if so, which existing models of the Fisher line will start to be produced at FT once the move is complete? Thanks ya sir!

Hi Brad
I condenced your quote a bit.

I'm not sure about any improvements, because I have had nil usage with the 3300. One thing for certain, the F-4 has a lot faster re-set speed for both audio, and digital ID, and it starts off in the discriminate mode when turning on. Also you don't loose your settings going into pinpoint mode.

I haven't even looked at the difference between the F-4 and the 3300 pertaining to the battery door/clips.

That I have no idea about that, and the company has already been moved to TX. a few weeks ago.

Have a nice day
Bill

Hello Tom,

Good compassion between the Fisher ID Edge and F4, That would be good if both fare about the same.

Already the F4 is priced low enough to be a good selling model if early reports come back positive, Hopefully they do.

Another positive thing on the DD coil is it may be possible to use the DD coil on older Tekentic detectors, I

Of course I have no idea what I'm doing!!!
Hip mounted it immediately and installed a PP switch in the handle of a new rod set-up. So how long have you been mod-ing?

Thanks for keeping this sleepy forum lively Paul. And please pass the Ketchup when you're done with it!
