The meaning of "Official".

as a CEO, surely one must realize that forums, social media, and perception all can add/subtract to the intrinsic value of the products a manufacturer brings to market--

SO- with all the time past/promises of new unit, why not check in a little more often? I cannot believe you were not aware of all the clamoring for the Cazador, and all takes is a minute or two to make the post you FINALLY made.

i second that. and about the actual detector itself. still not one bit of anything about it. not to bash tesoro but, you have to admit they are seriously lacking in the public relations aspect of things. what would it take someone, a hour at the most each month, to drop a line on the forums and make a post on their facebook page? seems to be just common business sense. even the die hard fan boys on other forums say it.

 I agree... but on this forum you have to be very careful what you talk about. Constructive criticism is misconstrued by others who claim you are "stirring the pot" or "being a troll" or "bashing" and stuff like that. I have left Tesoro products,... not because they are bad products,.. but because I am disappointed and bored with this company. Sure I want a good decent machine,... but I also want a company that feels alive and has great research and development along with great public relations. My decision to quit took a while but it is based on many things. First, Jack Gifford retires and Vince & James take over,.. then James quits... then they let KellyCo start selling Tesoros and my local dealer got mad and stopped selling them. He won't even carry accessories any more. Next, the strict repair policy starts and it is not longer cost effective to buy a used unit. It has been many many years since the website, MDI, or catalogs have been updated. No new accessories, coils, wearing apparel,...nothing. Then the biggest disappointment is the Cazador fiasco that has gotten a many good threads deleted because overly sensitive people can't stop calling others trouble makers. But us "pot stirrers" only want some answers and some signs of life,...that's all. So I have gone to another company. I still have one old Tesoro in my arsenal ...just for old times sake. This thread and post will probably get moved or deleted because it is inevitable that others will chime in here trying to "straighten me out" but I am a 35 year veteran at this and I know what I am talking about. In spite of all the disappointments,... it has been great to know guys like Rusty Henry who is a real treasure in this hobby.

Best Wishes to all,

The meaning of "vaporware"

"Vaporware is often announced months or years before its purported release, with development details lacking. Developers have been accused of intentionally promoting vaporware to keep customers from switching to competing products that offer more features"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

FT has the new F11, F22, F44 coming out. At least we are kept abreast, given peeks and a deployment date.

Not a detector war. But many like FT and they DO follow up in a professional way.

@reddirtfisher ,i will agree that was very well written, and its also "Official" that i wont be buying another Tesoro either, its a shame but although i never was a Tesoro every day user have drifted totally away from this brand.

What's an old Tesoro and a new Tesoro?
Why would you want to pay the same price for an old used Tesoro as an almost new used Tesoro of one year old?
Especially if its the same model that has been in production since 2003 without any changes?
Let's say for instance the Tejon or the Cortes.
I surely wouldn't want to pay $400 for a 12 year old Tejon when you can get a 1 or 2 year old Tejon for that amount or less.

Just rambling on......................forgive me.............................

very good observation there scan. but, oh no, tesoro would never even consider doing that. just think they could say if it is going to be waterproof, not like the sharks though? is it going to have a display? let the tom, dick, and harry's who buy them know a little something. after all, them buying the detectors keeps them in business, not just the few. would hate to sit around for years on end waiting for a lightweight waterproof, display detector. then finding out when it finally, or ever does come out that it is neither. vaporware about sums it up. or it's in the courts because of some patent issue with another company. i guess nathan coming on saying they are working hard and everything is fine. not saying a single word about appeases the few. all is well then.

As Rodney Dangerfield would say 'what a tough crowd we have here tonight'

I recently purchased a nice old Eldorado with 3 coils for $75, when I called Rusty he told me all about the detector, told me they would get it up running right as rain if I ever had a problem with it, dude is like Yoda when it comes to Tesoro it seems.

Anyways towards the end of our conversation he told me "hey if you enjoy the Tesoro, maybe one day you will buy a new model" I told him I would love to try one, and that I was waiting for the Cazador before I make an actual brand new detector purchase. And his exact words were, "Well, you are gonna be waiting a while"

I am not as invested in the whole thing, I just started detecting with a 25 year old Tesoro and I have to say I love that detector. Only have about 30 hours on it but it is simple and easy to use, discrimination is amazing, deep even with the 4 inch coil on it.

My main machine is a Fisher CZ70 Pro and although I love the depth it gets, 10+ inches on a dime, it struggles mightily in iron. The Eldorado has uncovered more than 50 non ferrous targets in my yard and this yard has been pounded by a bunch of machines.

The most surprising find was a token that is larger than a 50 cent piece in a hole with iron. Skipped over it hundreds of times with all the digital machines, the Eldorado picked it out quite easily.

So I guess for me, being so late to the Tesoro game, yeah they could have handled it differently, but if Tesoros are as good as everyone says, there should be no problem waiting in the mean time.

:)

Helloooo without offences to anyone i would to like to emphasis the following facts:

-The compadre circuit is still used for the Scout which are finding on the river Thames alone more artefact than in all the new world...
-All Tesoros model when well set up are as good as 95% of the machine on the market .Beaches are the only area where they dont really rock.....
-The LOBO is a really really really good machine underated machine so is the Tejon ,the vaquero and the Cibola and the 5.75DD coil. What is the g2 F19 if not a remixed lobo....

Now one of the issue which hasn't been really mentioned in any of the posts is the fact that we live in a consumerist society which force us to think that new is better ...which can be true but not all the time. After reading some of the post i feel like some of the members are begging the brand to take their HARD earn cash.....how many machine do you want and need???

Regarding the Cazador name/release date issue Tesoro may have a made a mistake but come on guys they are only human !!!!!......does that really stop you to live your day to day life???what about the V4 on the deus, the small coil the hoard hunter set up and the new Xchange from minelab.

I bet that if some of the best tesoro detecorist in europe where showing a bit more their finds most of the "upset" one down here will go back to their dealer with a changed mind.

Tesoros in europe are still finding lots but it is very hard to display a nice selection of finds without getting into trouble....

Once again i hope i didn't upset anyone with my remarks but i m sure when the cazador and the following model from tesoro will come out they will be very good machines.

Have a nice week end !!

RR

@Rivers rat ,you cannot beat a Tesoro with the 4'' coil on the Thames foreshore can you

Think the Tesoro fans are like Hockey, baseball card, coin collectors, they need to have the latest, rarest or the missing one just to fill an empty spot.
So dangling the Cazador carrot has many chomping at the bit...like dogs begging for a treat that never comes.

I always say, use what you have and be happy until you can have another. Most Tesoros have similar performance and depth, so you really can't go wrong with any of them.
The low cost Compadre is a testament to that fact, it finds the goods. And many of those goods high end machines would pass right over.

Here's something to think about, I sold a Bandido II umax because my inexpensive Cutlass II old brown big plastic box version was nicer to use and seemed to just about match the Bandido's performance.
I kept the Cutlass, picked up a second one for a friend. It's feather weight on a straight shaft.

Well said Rivers Rat.

I currently own a Silver uMax, Tiger Shark, and Tejon. ANY new detector would have to be some kind of incredible to even make me slightly consider purchasing it. What I have now suits my needs well and have made great finds.

... I implore anyone to show me where another manufacturer of hobby metal detectors has gone out to ask what the user wants. Good luck with that. ...

You begged about, Nathan. White's did.
They very carefully listened to their customers. THAT made the v3i AND the MXT PRO. Sure, that wasn't you want to listen about, but in fact it is the truth.

Yes, I own and use a DeLeon and like it a lot, but after using it for some years side by side with two other detectors I realized it will be a great starter.
So just saying not selling the company and still working says not that much at all.
Many manufacurer say so and act vice versa.

The personal high expectations here about the outlaw were revised by tesoro themself.
So I'm a disappointed tesoro user.

May be you develope a new trend-setter. Good for you. But to late to change the mind here. It took to much time you answered all the rumors.

IMHO

If you're not complaining about the model you have now or have used in the past, then you're not a disappointed Tesoro user. You're just a symptom of an instant gratification world that doesn't appreciate what they have now and are spoiled for the next great thing and are bashing the folks working to bring it to you. I guess I don't get the targeting of a company any more than those doing the bashing don't get people like me that are completely happy with Tesoro and their products.
