THE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO GET STARTED WITH THE CTX3030

WEN WE HAVE
a good understanding on what, wen, and how,to set up it is a cool detector to run.wen you get brave enough to try
all your options you will find great settings and no wen to use and wen not to use. understanding your settings
is half the battle. just hold back a little on the big power until you are ready and go back to your spots and pull out
all the stops.if it is nice an quite RUN ALL METAL and get the most from the CTX!!!!!!!!!!! it realy is a simple
hi tech.unite allot easer the whites v-3i and allot better

5 MODES SHOULD DO
wen you have a good handle on your CTX/AREA then i say setup a few more ,but until then keep it simple.
you can flip flop 5 modes until your happy and find no reason to change them . at that point if you have a
special area that needs a special mode go 4-it. my self 2 works fine and here and there i may use 3 more to
see if i can better the finds but 6-7-8 i think minelab gave us to much to do.

so all i am saying get good with them 5 first and then see if you need a special one 4 your spot

good hunting minelabbob

SETTING UP A MODE
out in the field can be a good way to find a good setup,4 that area. after running 4 a few min. and see were your ground levels
are at would be my first step. if your running good no# and trash is low go 4 a low trash setting and ferrous coin open screen (all metal)
if things change as you go then you change!! or if your in a bad area ground no# low trash all over change up to ground coin /high trash
with a pattern that takes out most of your noisey trash. try to use just enough of a pattern and dont go overboard. you have the controls to
change wen your out there. again if you want dig a plug 6in. or more and bury a zinc and setup that way. dont let the ground get the best
of you YOU ARE IN CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

minelabbob

HIGH CONDUCTIVE TRASH
aluminum slaw and all kinds of cans, big and small can be a real challenge in some areas, reading in the 12-40s
and up. how do we deal with such trash?? well it is tough as i have been going round and round with this. some
things we can try is being frugal as to what you dig. if your fe-co no# are not on the money both ways then dont
dig. a bouncing depth meter as we swing N-S E-W may tell you something is wrong. backing off on the power
can also help (as we are not pulling in all unwanted signals). if you have not had the opertuney to hunt in one
of these areas get ready 4-a new lesson. go slow and listen good, 4 them sweet tones.a pattern blocking most
of your playing field will help a little, but all bets are off!!!!!!!!!

so todays lesson is put your cans in the garbage !! PLEASE and have a nice day!

Minelabbob,
Got a question for you. I found a park in town that goes back to 1839 and the parks & rec. dept. have no problem with me hunting there. Apparently, it was not a park in 1839 but it was owned by the city, according to records, the park was established around 1900 ( old enough right?) i went out today, used a fairly open screen, Auto+ sens. Anf besides some clad, i only found a 1956 wheatie. No really deep signals! Do you think i should continue to hunt it? Any settings you would recommend?
Thanks
Chuck

HI CHUCK
wen a park is old there should be more stuff there, my self i would hang a little longer there. do a X across the park and run your
CTX in manual this time as long as your running stable if you were 20-15 run manual 20-22 or until you start to false and back down. but
if its loaded with trash then stay in auto and wen it rains go back and try again.you will get more depth wen the ground is wet . but
yes hang in a little longer my 1900 pk. still gives up silver!

let me know how you make out

Thanks Minelabbob,
I did go out again today with no silver finds. I ran into an old timer walking his dog and he told me he grew up in the neighborhood. He said that he remembers back when he was a kid, (40's) the city revamped the park and they took off about 3 inches of dirt from the surface in order to put in new grass. I am thinking that there would have been a fair amount of silvers in that removal layer. Did you ever hear anything like this? As far as deeper finds, I followed your suggestion and really ramped up the Sens to Manual 30. Got an awful lot of falses but no coin signals other than clad.
I will continue to try since I have not covered the whole park but I am skeptical that anything good still exists there.
Thanks
Chuck

YA CHUCK NOT SO HIGH
on the power ! did you cris-cross the park and is it sm . or a big park wait till it rains and the ground gets wet. as 4 taken off
the 3 + in. of soil i am sure that some silver wen by-by!! but hang in 4- a few more hunts and play around with some settings. after that and
if no good finds come out then move on. but i would wait 4-rain and go back and run your sence. around 25-27 we dont want falsing!!!
again run smooth even if your in 24 manual.in auto+ what was your sence. at 25-20 or less

TODAY"S LESSON
wen to bale out. are good friend chuck had some questions about wen is it time to move on
well allot of things come in to play #1 how big is the place you are hunting? most 5+ acre
will take a little time to cover properly. rember we want to cover it N-S E-W and this takes
time. #2 how old is this PK. or area your hunting 1800/1900 and was it a park or a farm.
the older the place and the more people = lots of trash and $$ also #3 doing your home work
as chuck has talked with a gentleman about the PK. and was told it had a few inches of
soil removed off the top!! well if and i mean IF this happen then say by by to some silver.
now does this mean every coin has been removed ?? i would say not!! now if the PK. is 2
acre and has been hunted 4 many years with the above mention it would be time.to move
on. you need to go with your GUT FEELING. adding up all your time and finds will give
you your answer. i hunt such a PK. in my town but soil was not removed it was added +
hunted by me and 5 others over the years. now and then the old PK. gives up a new find
but not like in the good old days. so my GUT FEELING tells me to go back and that is
what i have been doing 4-years.

PS rember its not all about silver coins as the photo shows minelabbob

WEN YOU GET
to a new site look outside the box put your self back in time. think about were things were. band stands picnic areas
think about them bushes and trees that now hide things areas were others dont even look!! i found a 1913 barber quarter
5 in. down along a fence. most people hit open areas and forget about them spots under there feet. or along the fence!!

minelabbob

REPEATABLE SIGNALS
even wen the fe-co no# dont make sence or are not in the hot zone, be-ware maybe something good. some soils
and settings will mix you up at times and let you walk rite by. i have found nickels, and ,dimes and pennys all
together and give you a crazy no# or signals. i also look for ROCKS in the raw form and have a nice collection
of many types including some meteorites . some can bring BIG $$$$$ . so keep them ears in tune with your CTX
raw copper and silver is pretty cool to find, with the bad boy CTX3030!!!!!

minelabbob

TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE
of your big investment. looking 4 raw gold or copper /silver coins and jewelry can pay off your CTX in no time.
i have had over 6 fines maybe more in 30 years of detecting that would have paid 4 = 5 CTX3030. dont think
it cant happen to you. allot of hard work, and many and i mean many digs over time will find you big $$$$$
targets. do your home work, find good spots to hunt and keep your fingers X. try not to get hunting the same
things all the time. if you live in the city find the old hot spots. if you were in the silver region look 4 the silver
mines. or in the gold region look 4 mines. all of these places around the country had many people lousing
watches rings coins guns etc. many a meteors have fallen across the country and your CTX will have no
problem finding them. and some pay like gold and platinum. some meteors have payed $1000.00 per OZ.
that is why i say think out side the box, you will never know unless you dig it!!!!!!!!!!!

AIR TESTING
are new CTX finding out were a dime ,or quarter ,or 1/2 dollars read is a good way to find out what you are looking 4.
or what i would say the HOT ZONE. and it is a good way to tell if are CTX is working, 4 the most part. now wen we get
out in the field some of are FE-CO# may be a little off. from are air test. allot of things come into play wen this happens.
no# 1 biggie=soil no# 2 settings no# 3 moisture so you may see from time to time your no# will be a little confusing.
but make no mastakes that high tone will allways give you the dig me signal. and after some time you will know to dig.
or not. yes there are times that the IFFY one keeps you standing in that spot 5 min.but you will get use to it in time.

minelabbob

the indians in the photo 1234-1239 on right
the silver nickels in photo 1217-1220-1225 now throw in some bad soil and well you will see?

AFTER THE CLASS
this one 4 you joe!! it is good wen you can get some help and put every thing together and show some results.
many a day i have spent testing and trying new things that i have learned from all of you. now wen i go out
with detector in hand, it is good to know that we all have a better under standing of how to get the most out
of our CTX or what ever detector you use. the more you know the more you will fine.but this goes 4 any thing
that we do in our daily life.

keep swinging till you drop!!!!!!!!!!!

minelabbob

CHOOSING THE BEST MODE
4 the job. most of us starting out with are CTX just want to get out and find things. so we study , do some test swinging
and off to the park. well and we all do this, is pick one or two modes and go 4 it.!!! and 4 the most part we do ok, but
could we have done better?? most times yes, it is only after we know what all the setting do,will we come up with a
better game plan , to pull the hidden coins/ relics out of the ground. so go back over some of them spots with a better
setup mode and give it a going over again!! you maybe surprised!!

here is a example what a game winning mode can do. not the best fines but what if they were silver or gold coins!!
this area has been hit many times!

Yes, it is amazing what you can do if you just understand what all the controls are, and when to use them. Tweaking things blindly was getting me nothing but frustration, but knowing what a function does, and when to apply it to a specific site is priceless! Being able to look at a site and let the machine tell you what sort of ground you are dealing with, and knowing what settings to apply in those conditions have helped me greatly.
HH
Joe

THATS RITE JOE
wen you know what all the ctx has and know wen to use this or that it opens a new old spot if you know what i mean!
that is the hardes thing to over come but wen you know what each setting does BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so good hunting and good luck!!

MINELABBOB

HUNTING the fields
now that we are bogged down with all this dry ground , were can we go. try the old farmers field!! with his ok most fields that have
been harvest ( hay mostly) are prime spots. most times they will let you go and now is the time wen the grass is lowwwww!!
today on such a hunt i got some gun cases and a couple of mod. coins but the real find was only yards away. it came in at 12-37
and a good high tone in my silver program and i could not believe at what pop out, only 8in. down. if we have any experts on
round iron objects out there let me know!! but it could be a 55mm. cannon ball. holy smokes what is this doing here??
so if you are looking to do some, swinging out there, go ask the farmer you may be in 4 a shock!!

HERE A PATT. THAT I USE
all the time in manual and in auto+ and its a killer!!! deep on fast off ferrous coin combine tones. a good all around mode.

and wen you go to patt.2 (allmetal) iron will stand out 90% of the time. but the lesson today is AUTO-A 4-TRASH we

will find our self in trash most times and if your like me and dont want to spend 400.00$ on a sm.coil.turn the power down

to auto and you will see things that you missed. one day i forget to turn my power back up on a test spot and walked into

my trash and a sweet high tone and a good vdi sounded off. i could not believe what had just happen because i go through

this spot all the time ,but on this day i walked through in low power and bingo!! 1945 quarter next to iron trash. so slow

down and cut the power in trash and go back over them trash spots!!

minelabbob

TEST 4 IRON

finding a good mode to use at your hunting spot . yes we talked about this , but did we think of a mode to check for IRON!! this will help in

makeing a dig or no dig call. next time you have some of that iron stuff under foot, run throw some modes and find the one that lets you know.

try in all-metal each mode till you find the best!! that will be your go to 4- iron mode. remember nothing is 100% but digging less iron - well you

can , thank me later.!!
